Does anybody know how Faith and The First Slayer, knew about Dawn before she arrived? Did The Powers That Be told Faith about Dawn while she was in her coma?

Also when The First Slayer said "Be Back Before Dawn" that was a reference to Dawn Summers right?

I'm assuming you mean Buffy's dreams with Faith during 'Graduation Day' and 'This Year's Girl'? Those were prophetic Slayer dreams, which we know Buffy has and is able to see glimpses of the future to prepare her for what's to come. (The dream she had in 'Surprised' for example and the one at the beginning of 'Welcome to the Hellmouth'). Those dreams were Buffy's Slayer self preparing the human part of her for the arrival of Dawn.

Much the same with the 'Restless' dream, when Buffy's Slayer and human self was able to overcome the First Slayer's power over her and the rest of her friends and she was able to wake herself up. Again, it's her own Slayer self that has the 'prophecy' about Dawn.

To answer your question properly I think you need to know who ' ultimately ' started the Slayer line.
Is there anything else in the show that has been renamed for the benefit of the show?
The Watchers Council. The hierarchy of a religion (church).
The First. Evil, of the Devil
The Powers That Be. The holy trinity
So, could it be that the Slayer was brought about by God?
And so, those prophetic dreams would be classified as divine intervention.

Oh, so that you know, they are just my interpretations of what was.
They are not canon.

Sometimes I forget that Buffy has those slayer type premonitory dreams. I wish they would have exploited this past s4.

She had one in S7, didn't she? Of Chloe crying and the First Slayer stalking people or something. (IDK, it's been a long time since I watched S7) But I think she dismissed it as nothing of import. Of course, this was the same episode that Chloe hanged herself, so it might have been a good idea if she actually had listened to the dream.

I think you're right, I can't remember too well so maybe someone can confirm this. I really need to do a full re-watch, but I'm happy that they used that "power" later on on the show.

What about Season 2 when Buffy has 'Deja Vu' about the pencil rolling off the desk and because of that she finds the Soul Restoration Spell. Thats something we haven't seen before, but it had to be a premonition of sorts that she had only while she was awake.

I think its also possible that she receives a lesser form of the visions that The Powers That Be gave to Cordelia. TPTB need to maintain balance in the world and if Buffy hadn't retrieved that Spell during that episode of the series' Angel would have remained Angellus and never done what TPTB needed him to do.

I always thought that it was some weird two way process between her and future slayers... we know slayers have subconscious memories of past slayers, what if they also had latent memories of future slayers, and therefore their own furtures... that's the most logical thing I can think of, considering we know that slayers are kinda man made and don't have much to do with the PTB

Its possible, but think about Angel's future. The Powers That Be would be invested in all things concerning him because of their future plans for him during ATS. Why wouldn't they throw a little hint down to Buffy to get things moving in the right direction?

It's definitely possible, but it seems more in keeping with their MO to have sent a whistler type character to her, which they did literally in season 2, if they could just beam the answer via dreams direct to Buffy then what's the need for whistler?

Of course, it's all speculative but I prefer my notion of back and forth memories, but yours is just as valid... I'd give my foot for more evidence in these type of debates lol 🙂

I agree with the other users: it was not about Faith or the first slayer knowing about Dawn, but Buffy's prophetic power that send her a cryptic message.

I re-watched the episode a few days ago and... well... I feel the need to defend Buffy 🙂
In her dream, just a second after seeing Chloe crying she was attacked by the first Slayer and woke up with a start when she told her something. The scene lead the viewer (and Buffy) to believe that the message of the prophetic dream was in the first slayer's line and Chloe's crying just went unnoticed. At least to me, and supposedly to Buffy as well.
Of course in retrospect, one sees the scene differently but I don't feel Buffy is to blame. Also, what was she supposed to do? Any of the potential crying, out of fear or whatever, was predictable in their situation, but Buffy had already so much things to take care of. She didn't have the time to mother them IMO.

I never said anything about blaming Buffy for ignoring the Chloe part of her dream or the dream in general - just that she DID ignore it and that it might have been a good idea if she had at least paid a little bit more attention to it. I don't blame Buffy at all, even though a lot of people, both here and in general, do.

Buffy's prophetic dreams in the past have been multi-layered and she's learned to take a lot from them in many different ways. This time, this dream, she had tunnel vision and she missed something, there's no denying that. BUT, given what Buffy was going through, and had gone through the previous year, it's not surprising that her focus was on what she thought was the main point of the dream - Sineya. There's no blame here, just pointing out the facts.

If I am misunderstanding let me know but you said maybe the slayer was brought about by god but they show you how the first slayer was created by thos shamans in a cave they chained her up and demon essence bound itself with her

I did state my interpretation is not canon, I did state 'could it be' in reference to God bringing about the slayer. Yes the three men physically created the slayer, but who inspired them?
buffy's dreams are sometimes visions to guide her in some way or visions of the future. This is something that is inherent in Slayers. So nobody told Faith about Dawn coming it was prophetic, simply a dream Buffy was having that was telling her what was to come.
