There's a thread elsewhere which keeps going off topic to discuss the death of Doyle actor Glen Quinn, and the rumours concerning his departure from Angel. I don't wanna do the OT thing, but the subject continues to fascinate.

There's a lot of gossip, rumour, innuendo concerning this. What are the facts?

I wouldn't say 'fascinate' as that does kind of add a morbid side to the wondering of someones death, however, I do think we need to establish the facts from the fiction.

Here is the story as I believe it...I don't know if its right or wrong, but its what i've been led to believe. Please feel free to contradict or agree.

Glenn Quinns role as Francis Doyle was cut short due to substance abuse in his personal life. It was deemed, by Joss and Co. that he was more of a liability then he chould have been.

HOWEVER, we all know that Joss wanted a main sequence character in Buffy to die in the first episode and that he liked to keep fans on their toes SO its highly plausible that Glenn was only supposed to do the 9(?) episodes he did.

I would need a solid link for me to be 100% sure of either of these.

Next.
It was my understanding that Glenn Quinn, who has struggled with drugs and other things for sometime died at a friends house after overdosing on Heroin.

My understanding was that it was accidental and in no way suicide. There was no talk of other illnesses and no one else has been suggested as having a part in this.

I could be wrong, I wasn't there, but thats what i've read and the stories have been linked to this site.

I think to use the word 'fascinate' pertaining to the mysterious nature of someones death, is morbid. However, I, would have it no other way. I think fascinate is the perfect word. Humanity is morbid, we are fascinated by mortality. There's no way around it. It is something that each of us must find difficult to comprehend. The end, beautiful friend. Of our elaborate plans, the end. Of everything that stands, the end. No safety or surprise, the end. I'll never look into your eyes...again.

As I said in the other thread. Suicide occurs when pain exceeds the amount one can sustain before submitting to its perils. A person that commits suicide does so because they have no way of lessening that pain. A drug addict has their required drug of choice to ease their pain. Therefore they have a way to deal with their pain, a way to release it.

I know this isn't the point of this thread, but I would just like to address some issues that have been raised regarding Glenn Quinn "suicide".

You don't go to a friend's house to kill yourself.

I have had childhood friend's and a close family member who have succumbed to the evils of heroin addiction. Research has proven that heroin addicts do not intentionally kill themselves.

As has been pointed out, suicide occurs when one's limit for pain is exceeded and they feel they can no longer go on. Heroin is a pain killer, a comfort drug. It is taken to reduce pain. Suicide occurs to end pain. Traditionally the two don't mix.

I am almost 100% sure, that Glenn Quinn's death was accidental.

As for the actual point of this thread. I have no idea. Questions like these should be left to fanfiction.

Thank you for the information. I see your point and understand your view. I'm pretty sure you're right and it was accidental, based on all the information that you gave.

THANK YOU!!!! this is all im trying to address here, if only people would read stuff like this before posting their rediculous comments.

Like I said, when people say he commited suicide, they mean it in the slang term, being to kill onself, as opposed to the dictionary term; to kill oneself intentionally. (as soon as someone says they understand where I'm coming from, I'll totally shut up with repeating this 😉 😛 :$ =)).

A drug addict has their required drug of choice to ease their pain.
Mmm, not always. That might have been the case, but the case can just as easilly be made that he tried it once and got hooked to the high feeling, and kept doing it, but had to use more and more to get that same high.

In the other thread it was suggested statistically it's unlikely a drug addict will commit suicide, so when the poster says,

A drug addict has their required drug of choice to ease their pain

I don't think it matters how the addict got where he's at. What's being suggested, I think, is the addict already has a pain and release mechanism built into his brain. He gets pain. He seeks release through drugs. If he doesn't get it, he's looking for it. Suicide as a release from pain alternative is unnecessary in the addict's mind - perhaps inferior.
