How did Tru get her abilities?

At first we were just supposed to accept that Tru was special, but as we get more information (Jack, her parents) things seem to get more complicated.

Did Tur get her powers because her mother had them, or was it more complicated than that? Is it because she witnessed her mother's death, or because her mother spoke to her during the funeral?

And how did Jack get his powers if his predecessor is still alive? Is it something you age out of, or choose to give up?

Please give me your thoughts, I'm really not sure what to make of everything right now.
 
I think that at a certain age or death that they decided who to give it to and Tru's father just gave it to Jack cause they knew each other some how. And Tru's mom gave it to Tru cause they were close? This is all just coming out so i'm sure i'll have a different opinion after some people state what they think 😀
 
I think the show just got stupid, Tru having it was a gift, then her mom had it, then Jack, then her dad. Who's next, her neighbours cat?
 
It's not stupid. Non BTVS viewers might think that a blondie girl who stakes vamps sounds lame,they don't know cuz they don't always watch the show and don't understand. You always say you don't watch TC,so Ash(I know I'm being mean,sorry *Gives Ash Puppet Angel sweets*),go post about Xpander please😛.*Hugs Ash*

eset: I suppose Tru's mom gave Tru her powers...dunno how Tru's mother got them though
 
I watch it but I dont like it, said to myself im going to watch all of the first season and see if theres an improvement.

I didn't mean the concept is stupid I just mean is they built up this whole big "Tru is special because she has this power" and then every episode somebody knew seems to be getting it.
 
Tru probably in some way inherited it...or was given it from her Mom...and her Dad had it to...don't have any idea how Jack got it though....but Tru's Mom and Dad both had the same power...but used it differently...it's odd that they would wind up together...maybe the whole opposites attract....but I think I need to find out more about Jack and his power next season until I can really get an idea...
 
I think Tru's parents ended up together first, maybe because they subconsciously sensed something about each other. Then Tru's father found out about her mother, and before she could find out, or at least act on it, he killed her. Then she gave it to Tru because she thought Tru's dad would be less likely to attack her than some stranger.

I could be wrong though.
 
I say that it was given to her from her mom because i think that she was the one that was most likley to help people......like her wanting to be a doctor......but i don't get how jack got it
 
Well I just assumed that she always had it...because her mom had it. Maybe it activates when she's old enough. Or maybe it activated when her mother died (i.e., slayer line). Course we all know Jack had it too...but maybe he doesn't count because he didn't stand up to his calling...or something like that.

I'm hoping it's something they get into in the next season.
 
Jack and Tru's powers activated at the same time, so maybe Tru's powers were lying dormant until her dad passed his powers on to Jack. Maybe her dad had some connection to Jack from before, or maybe it was like the slayer line--Tru's dad gave up his power and whatever powers govern this kind of thing gave it to Jack.
