How did Willow summon Katrina?

When "Dark Willow" is taunting Warren just before she flayes him, she gets the suspicion that he has killed before and says "REVEAL", at which point an apparition of Katrina appears and speaks to him, asking why he had to kill her.

But what was she? Presumably Willow didn't suddenly raise an immaculate looking Katrina from the grave, nor could she be a ghost as that wouldn't make sense.

Apologies if this has been asked before but just maybe she was the first (since season 3) appearance of The First Evil. It appears properly just 3 episodes later so chances are it was around already keeping a watchful eye over Buffy and her friends. And it would be in its interests to help Willow on the path of destruction.

What do you think?

Umm, what?
The First has always been, will always be.
Why couldn't Willow raise a dead person from the grave? Why couldn't Katrina be a Ghost? Why wouldn't it make sense?

Yep I know. Thanks for pointing it out. It doesn't really contradict anything I said though, does it? Unless you misunderstood what I meant about him taking a renewed interest in Buffy and the gang. Which it clearly DOES 3 episodes later and onwards.

Why couldn't Willow raise a dead person from the grave?
I never said she couldn't. Saying such a thing would be silly considering she did it at the start of season 6, arguably setting her on a course leading her to the very situation we are discussing now. One would think that would occur to someone before asking such a question.

My point was that if she actually raised Katrina, she wouldn't just casually stroll into shot, chatting away to Warren. She'd be dirty, and traumatised, and unless she had some kind of magic teleportation ability, she'd have to make it from wherever she was burried to where Willow and Warren were.

Why couldn't Katrina be a Ghost? Why wouldn't it make sense?
Taken from Buffy wikia
A ghost can only be visible to the human eye with ectoplasm. When Spike was rendered incorporeal following the Battle at the Hellmouth, Fred's scans indicate that Spike is technically not a ghost: he lacked ectoplasm, which would make him invisible to human eyes
Further to this, I doubt a "ghost" could just be called forth, even by someone as powerful as Willow. If you are to think of a ghost as the spirit of someone who had died, it has already been established in the Buffyverse that when a person dies their spirit moves onto another dimension, eg Buffy going to a happy dimension ("Heaven") or for another example Angel going to a hell dimension. So we can assume that Katrina's spirit has equally moved onto another place. Does Willow really have the power to call someone's spirit forth from another dimension, especially considering she doesn't actually know who it is that she is calling in the first place?

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, hope I made it more clear to you where my thought process was coming from.

I always thought it was just some illusion that Willow made!
Me too! I'd never really given it much more thought but then as I pointed out above, how could she make an illusion of Katrina if she doesn't KNOW it is Katrina that he has killed. She casts the REVEAL spell in order to find out if and who Warren has killed before.
So the spell then reveals Katrina to Willow (and Warren), but using what form? From the logic I explained above (for those who needed it spelled out to them) it couldn't be a ghost and it's unlikely she actually raised Katrina herself...

The First Evil (who has been around forever, yes gold star to ILLYRIAN 🙄 ) is suddenly taking a renewed interest in the Slayer and the slayer line, as explained further in season seven this starts when Buffy is raised in season 6. So it is believable to me that he could actually "step in" at this point as Katrina - it makes sense especially considering that it helps Willow on her path of destruction, something the First Evil wants Willow to do.

To be honest, I just thought it was a neat little theory and I didn't think there was a lot of substance to it. I just thought it was something cool to think about and speculate over, even if it probably wasn't the case. But in having to explain it all out I have actually realised that it makes so much sense.

I think Willow made the Reveal spell and read Warren's mind or something like that, saw that it was Katrine and made this glamour/illusion/whatever that had the form of Katrina and said what Willow wanted it to say.

This could be true. Willow does later say to Dawn "you don't have to speak, just think real loud, I can hear you". So it is plausible that she reads Warren's mind.

(I still like my theory that it's The First though 😛)

It could sort of be like what Drusilla did to Giles when she appeared as Jenny from him "seeing with his heart". Maybe Willow did the same thing... And in this case, Warren saw Katrina. That was always my theory.

The wikia you refer to, is that wikipaedia?
If it is, there are some ' distorted facts '.
According to the TV series Willow brought Katrina back from the dead, what you said about Katrina being dirty, why would Katrina's body be dirty? The undertakers would have cleaned her body prior to the burial, so she would not have been anywhere to get dirty. Willow called from the coffin.
The series does have several variations on the stated beliefs. ie vampires don't have souls, so why does the Master tell Luke that he does? Welcome To The Hellmouth.
The slayers were meant to be all girls, yet Luke said of the slayer that attacked him, 'he caught me when I was asleep'.
You quote wikia saying that when a person dies the spirit goes to.....
Giles said that when the person becomes a vampire, it is the 'demon' that killed the person. As such, when Liamor when William were made vampires their spirits went to...
That being so are the spirit and the soul two different things because Angel and Spike had their souls returned to them, nothing was said of the spirit though.

In episode 1, the class was being taught that the Black Death killed 25,000 and was an early form of germ warfare. Is that in the Buffy wikia? Is it canon?
As the facts talk of 100,000,000 people being killed by the Black Death throughout Europe, and that it was caused by rat carried fleas. So be wary of relying on any form of wikia/wkipaedia for facts, as they are often wrong.

I really like this theory, it seems to make sense, especially when you put the later mentioned comment to Dawn in there too. I'd never really thought about it before but it's an interesting question!

🙂

The answer to this one is very easy...by magic.

Are you joking or do you honestly think that's what I was asking?

Maybe this topic should be closed as it seems a lot of people have trouble understanding what I meant in the original post. I don't blame anyone, maybe I didn't explain it well and it's a confusing issue at the best of times.

You'll get that, to whatever question you ask, however correctly you ask it.

You will also find that other questions are answered during the course of a thread, not just yours.
