I just watched New Moon Rising yesterday - It made me cry, as usual. I read in Buffy magazine that the Veruca/oz storyline was supposed to be a season long story for Oz but he elected to leave instead because he didn't think that Oz was getting any good story lines beyond being Willow's boyfriend (and this is certainly true in early season 4). But I did love oz and Willow together - they were so cute! I liked Willow and Tara too but they were a bit too 'sweet and baby-talky' to make them a favourite.
I think Oz was going to be brought back in s6 of Angel if it ever came to air. What a shame.. 🙁

Choices in love aren't always making sense. But I think this choice did. Oz left, remember. He left and he didn't give her much of a hint of what to hope for or wait for.

This was one of the most heartbreaking episodes in my opinion. I cry every single time I watch it. I was sad to see Oz leave for good, but I was happy with Willow's choice. I would've chosen someone who hadn't hurt me over someone who had, too. I love Oz and I loved the relationship he and Willow had, but in all reality, I loved Willow's relationship with Tara more. But my heart broke for all involved in the episode.

Oh, wow. I agree with Seth; he wasn't really given a lot to do other than be Willow's boyfriend, so I understand his reason for leaving, but I so wish he wouldn't have... I love Seth Green and was so sad when he left! And even though most people love to hate her, I didn't hate Veruca at first... I think it would have been interesting to have her around for a little while longer.

That's interesting Tranquility, I never knew that. I always assumed that Veruca had been written in simply as a means of writing Seth Green out, I never realised it had been intended as a longer arc. Now I've got "what might have been" notions running in my head.
Does someone else find it ironic that Green left right when there was supposed to be a longer story arc for his character?

Totally. Hell, I'm surprised it didn't convince him to stay that little bit longer. Shame it didn't. I always found him the sort of actor that can steal whole scenes without doing anything, which was basically what he did throughout on Buffy, it was nice to see him getting a chance to play something meaty like this. It is a shame it didn't get a chance to play out longer throughout the year.

I liked Tara from day one. Her relationship with Willow threw me for a loop at first, but it was a pleasant surprise to me. I love how her character grew from this shy wallflower into the strong, beautiful soul that she was until her death. I liked her from the beginning and wanted her to be a part of the Scooby Gang, and when it grew into love between her and Willow, I was very happy.
I loved Oz too. Until season four, I loved the love between Oz and Willow. Though it was a roller coaster ride, it seemed so pure and so strong... However, I think Tara was ultimately better for Willow. She helped Willow grow into a more mature person than she was with Oz, with the exception of when she went on the magic bender that caused their break-up. The way I see that is that Tara loved Willow too much to see her poison herself with too much magic, which was beginning to be really dangerous for Willow.

I felt sad. Really, really sad. I loved Willow and Oz together. They started so good, and they were so good together. He forgave he after he cheated him, which I would never do. I was sad for loosing them, but if Tara makes Willow happy I have to accept that 🙁

This episode kinda made me fall in love with Tara. She's just the nicest person ever, and she cared enough about Willow to let her go to Oz. Thank goodness that didn't happen tho, or Tara would've been off the show!
This episode really was a good sendoff for Oz. He was never a bad guy, and if this wolf thing had never happened to him, then I think he would've been perfect for Willow. Its sad, but also happy too. 🙂

As I've said before, my first exposure to Buffy on TV was "Once More With Feeling," so, to me, when I finally got around to seeing the earlier shows, it was Oz that was the shock. As with that other ship, I kept wondering who the multi-colored hair guy was with Tara's girl.

I loved Oz, but even this early I liked Willow and Tara together. I loved Tara. I did think it would work out with them, had the (sad and horrible) end of season 6 not happened. I was sad to see Oz go, but glad that she chose Tara.
I always got more bi-vibes from Willow. I think a lot of women find their sexuality later in life so of course it's possible to realize you're a lesbian after having had relationships with men. But Willow doesn't seem to lose attraction to men so much as realize she's also attracted to women.

Werewolves' changes are still based on the lunar cycle, it had just changed in Oz's case because he trained himself not to change.
Which makes him even more dangerous now because with the lunar cycle you can plan and take easy measurements (putting him in a cage) so he doesn't harm anyone. Now he can change on a whim. Good thing Oz usually is in control of his emotions.

Yeah, but its weird because Joss only refers to Willow as a gay woman after this. Maybe he was trying to appease the lesbians by making sure that everyone knew that Willow wouldn't be "going back to boys town" but it did offend a lot of bisexuals in the process. I always thought Willow was bi too. I mean, we all know she never stopped caring about Oz.

And she was still attracted to boys on occasion even though she wasn't ever with another one. There's nothing wrong with being in the middle of the sexual preference continuum. It can be a fun place. 😉

I saw it as a signal of just how deeply Oz felt for Willow, a kind of "wanted her with all his beeing".
It just goes to show how much weight we often put on first impressions. How sweet that you finally, even if Spike was quite lovable in that first impression of yours, that you have finally found the love for Buffy with Angel.
That she cares for Oz does not equal romantic love, though. I think that in cases where the first romantic relationship was good, most keep a place in their heart for that very first loved one, no matter our later gender preferences.
