How do vampires know about the Slayer?

How does every vampire that comes across Buffy in a cemetery etc. they always seem to know that Buffy's the Slayer or is a Slayer, so how do they know about Slayers? Do they have nightmares & prophecy dreams etc while they're inside their coffin?

I'd say it's because word spreads fast in the vampire community. Think about it; all it needs is one vamp to find out her identity and he'll go and tell everyone.

Pretty much a handed down, sire to fledgeling thing, like Forrest said, something to scare the youngsters with if they didn't misbehave badly enough. A few vampires and demons must have survived encounters with various Slayers, even killed some of them, and what's the point in bragging about draining the big, bad Slayer if nobody knew who or what the Slayer was?

Some vampires dont know about the Slayer. In Season 5 The Gift the first scene is of Buffy fighting a vampire that doesn't know who she is or what a slayer is. Here's the transcript.

BUFFY: Okay. Um ... how about the expression, 'vampire slayer'?
VAMP: What the hell you talkin' about?
BUFFY: Wow. Never heard that one. Okay. How about, 'Oh god, my leg, my leg'?

I always figured that vamps could sense the slayer, kinda like how Buffy was original suppose to be able to sense vampires. Except for the few that didn't know who she was which I just wrote off as being newly sired, and not completely intune with all of their vampire senses yet.

(either that or they figured it out because she's the only girl to open up a can of whoop-ass on them.)

Well, if I was a vampire, and I had just risen from the grave, I wouldn't think that cute little blonde girl sitting on a tombstone, playing with a yo-yo would be there just for the hell of it. 😛

Well, all vampires have some sort of sire...correct? Maybe when they awaken their sire gives them the low down of the vampire world. I guess that would include the Slayer. If they don't really have one, I believe word of mouth. All the vampires and demons playing cards for kittens...talking about the Slayer. lol

Slayer seems to be as old as vampires and demons. So it kind of makes sense they would all know who she is. Maybe not in her particular, just that there is a slayer.
