See, no that just sounds weird.b-AY-n-jul. That's how I pronounce it. I put the emphasis on the AY.
lol, I pronounce Cangel like that too (& Dangel come to think of it). And now I will never see Spuffy without thinking "Spoooooofy!!". 😀What I find interesting is that so many of us jumped to the same seemingly incorrect "bangle" pronunciation...btw, in my head Cangel rhymes with Bangle, and it sounds a lot like cankles. 🙂 Spoofies and Cankles!
See, no that just sounds weird.
I don't see how. It's Buffy and Angel put together. I don't see how 'bangle' makes sense. It's using Angel's name with the 'B' from Buffy to make Bangel, yeah? A hard 'g' there doesn't fit.
I don't think so...the l on the end would make it be pronounced Bang-elI thought everybody pronounced it with a soft G, because the G is followed by an E. If it's a hard G, it should be written like this: Bangle.

I would pronounce Bange (if it was a word) with a j sound but not Bangel.
There is really no right or wrong way, since it's a made up written word. I guess if you tracked down the first person who wrote it, you could ask them.
I'm in my final year of an English and Education degree, and I've done quite a few modules on phonics and linguistics. I think I can say with some certainty that "Bangel" would be pronounced "baaaynjul", because if the letter after the "g" is an "i", a "e" or a "y", it is pronounced softly, whereas if it's anything else, including a space, it's pronounced as a hard "g", like in "bangle".
There are a couple of words that are irregular, like "gill" in terms of a fish. I wouldn't say "Bangel" is irregular though, because of the word "angel".
But the word "bangle" does exist in English, "bangel" does not (except for we fans), so it's not so strange for us to jump from an unknown word to a pronunciation of a word that's very similar.
I'm not disputing that, regardless of whether a word is in the dictionary or not you can guess how it can be pronounced based on preexisting grammatical rules, is all I'm saying.
Pronounce it however you see best. 🙂
