How Do You Browse?

no, this is not a thread asking you exactly what the process of "browsing" entails. i myself was browsing BB when i started to wonder exactly how everyone else went about spending their time at the good ol' BB. do you have a system for every time you visit, or is it different each time? do you always check on the newest posts since your last visit first? do you check your house thread before any other?

me, personally? well, i usually check the front page first. if there's new buffy-boards news, i read it. other than that i only read what jumps out at me. then, i check all the threads i have posted in for updates, by way of the search feature. i read those replies, and reply to some myself. ill admit, its a faulty system sometimes. i often miss certain threads because i havent posted there, or they're not on the front page. after that, i dont really have a system. i just kind of browse.

anyone who wants to share their little "systems" below, as well, can. 😀
 
I begin with the unread posts, then spread out from there, searching for whatever or whoever catches my attention. (Of course, I check the "Personal Messages" file first, as I try to answer all messages as quickly as i can.)
 
'New posts' is usually my first port of call...paying special attention to the modly stuff 🙂
 
Uh... new posts right next to search on the front page.
Go though a few posts and hit refresh.
Skip the ones that I'm not interested in.
Pretty basic.

The board (AFAIK) is missing the manual "mark all posts as read" function.
It does it automagically, but that's on a time limit.
Which just means that the threads I'm not interested in will stay on top until the time is up.

Now, if you're wondering about me sitting there in my underwear, one sock on (hey, I have some decorum) with the other foot in a bucket of sand so I can pretend I'm at the beach (all the while sipping my margarita) - with my DIVX player windowed on top of the buffy forums running a loop of girls in bikinis... well that's just a bit more private than I care to get.
 
I usually check for new rep first, and if I got any, I check those threads. After I'm done I go to 'New Posts' and there I usually check the Drogyn ones first and then move on to the rest.
 
I'll always check out the front page first incase I have any pm's,notifications or karma thingies. After that I'll simply just work off of the new posts,although I do check for the mod forums first and then anything that catches my eye.

There is a "Mark all forums read" towards the bottom of the front page...I'm assuming it's on all the schemes and not just the one I'm using 🙂 I think that's the one you're after.

I check the front page first, check for new notifications or rep, then I'll check out the fourms I'm responsible for, Mod wise, do whatever I need to do in there, then I'll go to the new posts and check out what's been going on since I was last there.
 
I'm just a repetitive "New Post" ...er. I don't really look elsewhere, unless I've been given karma which isn't too often nowadays, probably due to the lack of my posting! So "New Posts" it is, repetitively, even if I'm told there is "No Unread Posts".


..I should get help.

I check the front page first, check for new notifications or rep (yeah I copied Lyris post), then I check the new posts but not necessarily in order. First VH, then the ones that seems most fun. Then I´m finished I spend the whole day pressing the refresh-button.😉

New Posts first. No wait, that's a lie. First I see if the number thing is bolded next to Notifications and then go 'Ooh!' if it is and promptly read the visitor message/PM/Karma and reply to one or more of the above THEN I go onto New Posts. I sort of spread out from there. How I spread out I don't actually know it just sort of...happens. ::cue Twilight Zone music to add drama::

Actually, I do that too. Only, without the music. Mostly...... "dodododo dodododo".....

2. Karma
3. New posts - I'll look through the list to see if there's anything I'm really interested in reading NOW (like the RP or my house stuff), then click through the rest of them. Until recently I only read the stuff that I had posted in or had a theme I was interested in, but I realized I was missing a lot of great conversations and bonding activities, so I've started reading nearly everything.
 
^hehe, yeah. im starting to get that impression. at least i feel unique now :silly:. im looking through the newest unread posts right now. i think i started doing it the other way because if i left the board for a few days, and i wanted to know if someone replied to a few particular threads id replied to, i didnt want to search through a whole bunch of other threads first. id get caught up reading other stuff and never get to see what i wanted. usually, unless its been a period of slowness on the boards, the recent posts in just the threads ive posted in take quite a while to read. usually i dont finish 'til i REALLY ought to get off the computer, especially with the RPG. thus, i might start looking through newest posts more often, but only if i have a lot of time available 🙂.
 
Well, now I feel like a WEIRDO!

I guess, if I pull it up fresh, I check the first page...usually I just go straight to the CP and see if there's replies to threads I've posted to. Pop into the Merrick common room and drift around reading what's going on. Oddly, I found that I don't usually POST to it unless it's a new thread, so I've started trying to remember to do that.

Then, as I'm working and no replies to the old threads I've posted to or if I have a question, I wander out and see what the heck everyone is doing in the New Posts thread.

And, I end up clicking the ones with "catchy" titles.
There was a movie quote one the other day, but now I can't find it. 🙁

Then again, I'm SUPPOSED to be working most of the time I'm online, so I can only really play while paint dries. But, I feel WEIRD now.
 
If I have a new rep then I check that first then go straight to new posts. If not I go straight to new posts. After that I go to the Drogyn forum. Then if I have got caught up in a Spuffy vs Bangel war (THEY'RE JUST AS GOOD AS EACH OTHER!) I check that to see who has decided they're going to argue with me.

Spike looks SO outta place with that "frat boy" crowd. No wonder they broke up!
I always check new rep first then check notifications then read through almost all of the new posts for that day.
