How do you 'celebrate' Halloween?

This year, I'll be wearing a costume to work every day of the week leading up to halloween (which I am way too excited about!). Otherwise, we typically treat ourselves to a small bowl of candy we get from the bulk store and scary movies the night of.... And I hate scary movies, so there will probably be wine involved too. 😉

We tried the bar scene one year and everybody was just going too crackers for my tastes.... And the couple Halloween parties we went to were a bust.... So now we stay in.

I freaking LOVE Halloween. The only night when you're expected to be weird and mess with people. I normally blast death metal and black metal...with all the lights out (except for red candles), and wait for trick-or-treaters brave enough to approach the door. I really like those motion activated skeletons and moaning demon heads...strategically placed near the bushes. Scares the CRAP out of everyone. 😀
However, children in my neighbourhood do NOT go door to door after sunset; usually a few teenagers might show up. Probably on a dare. Haha. There's no smiling pumpkins at my place that night. Everything is evil and scary as possible. Woot!
(Truth be told, I blast death metal & black metal nearly every day, so it sort of feels like Halloween year-round anyway)

Does anyone know the history of the old ways, the old ones Halloween or Samhain? Of All Hallows Eve, of welcoming back the friends who had died that year, there were a lot less people in the world those thousands of years ago. Or about it the dead returning for the winter months until the Spring season in February.

This idea of carving the pumpkin is an American idea as they didn't have pumpkins in Ireland, what would have been carved were usually turnips or really big potatoes.

People often regard most witches as scary and often with green skin, the concept of witches with green skin is an American idea. When the film The Wizard of Oz was being made they had the wicked witch of the wests skin be green. A Christian thing was to see dead people as evil, except their dead of course. If you see dead people as evil then Halloween being about the time of the dead, scary films become accepted.
But have a think about it, in the early times witches were not the scary ones, early witches were the intelligent ones in a village, the helpful people. When Christianity came along they were the scary people, just think of the scary ways that Christians thought of to torture and kill people. Oh and God didn't do that, the human's did.

If you are going to carve a pumpkin this year instead of using a knife try using a ' corn on the cob ' holder to mark out the shape, if you can find a short thin bladed saw that'd be better to saw out the shape.

You know, I HAD been planning to dress like Nattefrost or Shagrath this year, amd maybe go to West Hollywood for the celebration. But after all the paranoia about "killer clowns" I'm concerned that a few dumb asses would mistake the corpse paint for clown make-up and freak out. (Even on Halloween!) I don't want to get shot or jumped. Not worth the risk. THAT'S how retarded this thing is. 🙁

That's the thing, thousands of years ago people worked the land. Generally they were good to each other. They had a few battles here and there but basically they were good people.
Try and compare what those videos say, if it was the truth you think those self proclaimed experts would say the same thing.

Me I'm in giving out sweets to the trick or treaters, meanwhile, Abbs is off to a trick or treating party! We are both dressing up....kinda

A real mixed bag of a Halloween Party round mine on Saturday. The costumes were great, my Hillary Clinton and the girlfriends Donald Trump outfits provided much entertainment! A good team effort saw one group as Ash, Misty, Brock and Professor Oak. Good decorations and food put out as well.

Unfortunately it all went downhill towards the end. One speaker wire developed a fault and caused the sound system to crash. I was too smashed and busy passing out to fix it. Girlfriend had to blag it for the rest of the night without me. Everyone seemed to enjoy it though.

EVERY year I go to the best costume party in town, at one of our local goth clubs. This year is the Church, where I am at now. I love it because everyone dresses to the nines to win best costume...and unlike other places, all of the costumes here more or less have a dark theme. And goths know far better than normals how to dress up. It's an absolute riot. The best I have done is third place with my costumes. Standing room only in this place.

Other than that, I enjoy carving pumpkins, making my apartment appear festive, watching horror movies and reading horror, listening to dark music more often than what is usual for me, and going to haunted houses. This year I only managed two, but they were good. I love this holiday. Only Valentine's day can compete, for a born romantic idealist like me.

what can be amusing and at other times scare the crap out of people is to carve a large pumpkin so that you can put your head inside it. Should the correct person be near, a simple "boo" can be very effective.
