How do you choose/watch TV shows?

Usually people recommend the shows to me. Eg my cousin told me I'd like Supernatural, [MENTION=8013]Washburne[/MENTION] told me to watch Firefly (which I'm soooo happy I did 🙂 ), [MENTION=10363]zobothehobo[/MENTION] and another friend got me interested in starting Smallville, my other friend got me into Sherlock, everyone told me to watch Game of Thrones, etc.

Other shows like Heroes, Buffy and the Vampire Diaries I caught glimpses of or promos on TV (although, I did have a friend trying to convince me that TVD wasn't like Twilight, so she may have influenced that decision). I watched Veronica Mars because I'd seen Kristen Bell in Heroes, and I think I watched an ep or two when it aired here. Most procedurals like CSI, NCIS, Bones, Law and Order, Criminal Minds, the Closer I started watching because my mum watched them. I remember seeing my first CSI ep when I'd taken a day off school because I was sick and my mum had taped it from the night before. I think I was around 10. lol. My dad was given Breaking Bad as a present, so that's how I discovered that.

But mainly it's my friends or family who get me watching a show. I don't really go searching for new shows to watch. I'd just rewatch series.

I've been told to watch Once Upon A Time? Is it any good? I've just finished Smallville and don't know what to do with my life. 😀

Hmmm, I tend to gravitate towards stuff with a supernatural/horror type theme alot. I just enjoy that type of story more, so that is usually something that peaks my interest. But I'll try anything if I've seen ads for it that looked cool, or if I read something about it and it sounds interesting.

Also if there is an actor or if the show is created by somebody I like I will give it a try. Like, I tried Six Feet Under because I'm a fan of Dexter and True Blood so I wanted to watch it for Michael C Hall and Alan Ball. And I tried Dark Angel because of my love for Jensen Ackles 🙂

If it comes recommended by a friend I also might give it a try. I started watching The Vampire Diaries because of a deal I made with [MENTION=8947]Akitta21[/MENTION] - She would watch That 70's Show if I watched TVD 🙂 And I just brought season 1 of Friday Night Lights because a friend of mine at work would not shut up about it....also it was really cheap 😉

Mostly though, I find I watch stuff out of boredom. I watch The Big Bang Theory just because its constantly on and I'm too lazy to get a dvd out lol.

There are so many tv shows that I have yet to try that I want too though. I just don't have the time for them.

Just like [MENTION=8277]ItMustBeBunnies[/MENTION] I sometimes try and watch a new show because of an actor I love.

Like I'll soon be starting Fringe because of Joshua Jackson <3

It really depends on the the genre. We watch the horror channel a lot, Angel's aired on it (though I do have the full set), and I'm a Trekkie so CBS (again I have every Trek show episode and movie made). Then there's comedy, even though I think US comedies are great and watch them, I have to admit I prefer Brit sitcoms especially those of those from the 50's - 90's. But I have to admit US makes the best Scfi and horror so it balances.

Also have a great love of detective series, again prefer things like Sherlock holmes, Morse, Poirot etc.

BUT definitely not into the soaps such Eastenders, Coronation Street and the like.

We also love movies, we go to the cinema on average twice a week. So, I guess we're tv and movie nerds.

I'lll give anything a try pretty much regardless of genre. You never know when you're going to find a diamond in the rough. If after a few episodes it hasn't reeled me in then I move on to the next thing.

I think it's hard to know what I'll like. I'll tell you what I don't like: reality TV. For the most part anyway: I'll catch AI or ANTM occasionally. I'm drawn to sci-fi/fantasy/paranormal stuff, but I'm picky. So of course I love Buffy & Angel, but I don't really like Supernatural or True Blood. I like procedurals with a twist, so Bones, Awake, Castle, Medium etc. I used to love all the L&Os, esp SVU, but I'm kind of bored with them now. Sometimes the shows with graphic violence bother me, I kind of just turn my head with Game of Thrones.

Lately I really haven't been into comedies except The Big Bang Theory. I need to give some of the newer comedies a chance. Despite loving NPH & Alyson Hannigan, I don't like HIMYM at all. I'd rather watch some of my older comedies: Friends, Will & Grace, Seinfeld, Frasier.

Usually if I hear good word-of-mouth or it has an interesting and original storyline I might give it a shot. I used to watch much more TV shows than I do now, I guess because not a lot interests me these days. Well, I do enjoy "True Blood," "Supernatural," "White Collar," "Glee," "How I Met Your Mother," Bones," and "The Voice," that's about it. I flat-out despise reality shows, with extremely few exceptions. "The Voice," "Big Brother," and "Hollywood Treasure" are it for reality shows. (I don't know, there's just a fun factor to "Big Brother," I guess.) Procedural shows also bore me to death. "White Collar" at least has fun banter between Neal and Peter, and I love the quirky characters on "Bones." I like my shows to have a fantasy twist to them, and I also like shows that can be funny and/or subversive. Probably why I love "Buffy" so much. It has the horror/fantasy element, but also has witty and funny characters, as well as gut-wrenching drama and amazing writing and acting. Hence why "Buffy" was the best show ever made. 🙂

I'm a massive Tv nerd. I love sitting down with a good boxset.
All my boxsets, bar four, I've watched because friends have lent me the DVD's and suggested them to me. this includes, Supernatural, Buffy, Angel, Bones, ER and the Vampire Diaries.
Game of Thrones, Glee and Dexter I watched because the trailers looked good. And I watch Chuck because I did Ip dip doo on itunes between Chuck and House, when deciding on a new series to try.
So I don't really have a specific way of choosing Tv shows, I usually give most stuff a go if its recommended by a friend.
