How do you know the other world is better than this?

This whole thread is reminding me alot of the long since gone show Sliders, did anyone else watch that while it was on? The main character, through science, manages to create a machine that opens portals to other dimensions, he gets the voltage all wrong though and the portal got bigger than it should have and sucked him and several others into it. They all land in another dimension only to find that they aren't able to get back to their own dimension at will and so spend the remainder of the series "sliding" to other dimensions, each time hoping it will be their own. Each dimension has the alternate versions of them, some worlds are awful some are idealistic, some are close enough to their own. It was a really good show, I was so hooked on it. But anyway, I digress. But its the same as the idea of "The Wish" that there are potentially a plethora of alternate realities out there where your dopplegangers live without having the slightest clue that another version of them could be living a better or worse life than you are... certainly does make you think.
