This is primarily concerning the current, and really not so current trend to make vampires heroes rather than villains. As much as I like Spike and Angel, as well as a couple of other vampire heroes from time to time, somewhere in the back of my mind there still lurks a little demon who whispers "Vampires are monsters. They kill people and drink their blood. They can't be trusted."

So, what do you think? Buffyverse aside, do you think that vampires should remain as monsters, or do you feel okay with having your daughter or younger sister going to the prom with one or having one look for your missing Aunt Clara?

I think it depends on the other characters.

I can watch and "like" a vampire that's evil, as long as no character in that movie/show/book go "I love you, you're awesome, I don't care about the evil stuff". Then I get mad. If the vampire's evil, fine and dandy. Just don't make him the hero.

And I'm getting tired of the "I'm a vampire regretting past deeds" act. After watching Angel, it feels like everyone else are copycats, so Angel ruined me for all other sad vamps.

Another kind of vampire I love to hate, are sexy sleezy harlequin vampires. All sexy, strong, dark, takes what they want, inclduing women. If you put that kind of vampire in a show/book with a woman who's fine with being pushed around, letting the vampire play with her, simply let's herself get seduced too easily, I want to vomit. Put him against a strong woman, it's different. Like with Spike & Buffy. Buffy didn't fall for Spike and his sleezyness until the was deeply depressed and suicidal. Before that, it was no no. Which made me not want to vomit (okay, season 6 made me nasueas, but not mainly because of Spike's sleezy side).

That being sad, I think I prefer the Buffy vampires. Angel & Spike got amazing arcs, but I like how the vampires in general are evil beings, who like to hurt people, but can still like unicorns, and want family and can carry a decent conversation with people before killing them.

I love that in Conversations With Dead People we see a vampire understanding humanity, even being "friendly" but still wanting to kill people.

I don't really have a preference i really don't lol, I like both the evil baddies all the way through to the good sparkling ones lol. Seriously i just have a fascination with vampires, and that means all kinds. I happen to love Stephenie Meyers vampires from twilight because she took a chance and did something different she broke the vampire mold and made it her own SO what if they sparkle its not like its the only thing they do and its not like it is supposed to be the focal point of the whole damn saga. My favorite vampires still have to be by far Spike and Angel though they just were so much more interesting then some of the others, However Louis, Claudia and Lestat are some of my favorites as well. So yeah show me a vampire movie and no matter what they do i'd probably love them lol.

I do like to think of vampires as the merciless cold blooded blood- suckers, because that's essentially what they are. They're not humans, so I don't care about them killing humans, but they are still "evil", none the less. Evil vamps like what we had before Anne Rice had this thing about them. They were deadly. They were vampires. And it was cool to see something like that, a creature so dangerous yet gorgeous with the blood dripping down their chins and that feral glint in their eyes.

But I also like to see vampires with more depth and personification, although I too sometimes doubt how realistic it is. Vamps aren't people, so I don't think that they should be made to seem like one, but whatever. 😀

I dunno, my heart still kinda belongs to those completely, utterly, unfathomably evil and heartless killers that were never weak or stupid like the ones we often see in Buffy. They were stronger, craftier, more skilled, and and they didn't give about anyone other than themselves. I find that interesting. 😀

I prefer to have "monster" be the default setting for vampires... but there are always good stories to be told about the monster who doesn't want to be a monster anymore.

I like all kinds of vampires - from sparkling to demonic, but I do prefer them to be sentient rather than mindless bloodsuckers.

Hmm. Bad, but yet, in some situations, loving. I do belive vampires can love, with passionate love. So I like them bad, I like when they are hunters, and when they are winners, but I also like ones who come home and cuddle with their vampire - human half 🙂 But I don't like when they are "I bloody love you and can't live without you".. that's just weak.

I do like different kinds of vampires I guess, but my preference is the Angelus and Darla kind - when they're all fangy and grr ... it's way more interesting and sexy then when they mope around

How do I like my vampires? In one word, dead.

Oh, that's not what you meant. I'm not a vampire lover. Which sometimes seem to surprise people since I love Btvs and Ats. But I don't like them because they have vampires, if anything it's more despite that they have vampires if a connections should be made. Vampires should be the ultimate bad boy. Or girl. The forbidden fruit that you should stay far away from but can't help but being attracted to. You should never trust a vampire and in the end they'll always betray you. Period. Not that I mind Angel or Spike. Angels journey is interesting and it wasn't by choice. Vampires shouldn't want to change. And Spike was much better as the bad boy than what he later became. I don't mind Twilights version of vampires as such (no need to hate just because it's different) but if I had a choice tha's not how I want my vampires.

I made your banner. I'm glad you like :)
I never like vampires. I like only Slayers.

I've seen some vampire films(BloodRayne, Blade, 30 Days of Night, Queen of the Damn, etc.). I have to say, BtVS version is the best out of all.

I like Bram Stokers vampires, Anne Rice vampires, Lost Boys vampires, Being Human vampires, True Blood vampires and BTVS Vampires.

I love TK's quote :

Vampires should be the ultimate bad boy. Or girl. The forbidden fruit that you should stay far away from but can't help but being attracted to.

Squee for Lost Boys. It was on TV a couple weeks ago!
I like all different kinds of vampires but my favorite are vampires who have an evil side but also are a little in touch with their humanity. My favorite vampire ever is probably Eric Northman (books, not TV show). He's the perfect vampire. I like the Southern Vampires because they live among humans, can drink from them without killing them, can have relationships with them, but also don't let you forget that they are not human and never will be.

I liked the Twilight saga (the books - the first movie I only liked because I liked the books so much and it was neat to see the characters on screen - the 2nd movie was a lot better IMO) but they're low on my list for vampire-appeal.

Mostly I like them tall, dark and handsome!:biggrin::biggrin: And I don't mind the forehead! Or the nerdiness!or the clinical depression! And they should wear leather... looool just kidding!

I really like vampires to be vampires, you know? Vampires are not supposed to be cuddly bears or anything like that. They are strong, violent(it is in their nature since they are hunters) and strangely attract humans in a passionate way. I absolutely adore love stories which include vampires and humans, but I like the "Buffy" style more than the "Twilight" for example.I don't hate Twilight, I just think it is kind of "too sweet". I want action and adventure combined with romance, love and tragedy and "Buffy" is the greatest vampire series ever IMO.

Angel, is an example of the ultimate dark romantic hero, cause he is torn between vampire nature(he is a vampire) and humanity(he has a soul therefore he is not a mindless killer). He has choices and he chooses to do some good. But Angel is no saint and he knows it.He is sensitive and he hides the pain inside. I love him!
He is not the typical vampire but he is honest with himself and others. He has done things he would never be able to undo, but at least he tries.

I prefer my vampires to be, in general, predators. That whole evil, blood-sucking fiend, very sensual/sexual being shtick. I like to imagine them giving off this whole supernatural, out-of-this-world vibe that just lurs you in and then - snap - you're dead. Except if you know what to look out for and are prepared. Also, they're not too easy to kill (rib cages do exist - I am looking at you, Mr Whedon) but not crazily hard either if you know how. Why, yes, I have given this some thought.

But, depending on the setting and how many vampires actually appear in that particular story, there should be at least one or two more fleshed-out characters that stand out from the rest, if just to show there's still parts of the being they were before remaining.

I can watch anything vampirical and generally like it (Except Twilight. But, don't get me started on that). My mind doesn't really tell me how vampires should be; but I do prefer them merciless and sadistic. I don't like vampires who're all about the killing though, I prefer vamps that have a personality, makes the character more interesting, after all. But when vampires are completely against killing, out of their own free will, it gets on my nerves. I don't think they should be like that, vampires are killers, plain and simple; if they're not, I doubt it'd be by choice.

I think vampires should be evil, the whole getting turned on by sucking peoples blood, very sexual and luring.

I'm not really a BIG vampire lover though to be honest. :/
Okay a lot of the films are great, but i'm not obsessed.
the Lost Boys, interview with a vampire,Blade, Brams stocker's Dracula are all good.
