How do you make a Buffy-video?

I'm in a mood to make Buffy-related videos but I'm wondering...when you guys take videos to make one video, where do you get the videos? Do you take them right from the DVD's? If so, how do you do that?
Do you download full episodes and then just keep the parts that interest you?
Or is there somewhere a video-base, like there are screenshots bases?

Making videos is trickier than I thought.

Soooo, thank you to the forumites who tried to help me, but being too impatient and having problem with software and so on, I finally decided to take my clips by video-screenshoting my screen while watching. It give a weird quality but I kind of like it in the end.

So here are my first try at making fanvids!

I used CamStudio (http://camstudio.org/). It's free and very easy to use once you understand it! I just had to change the settings to have a better quality (because basically it was real crap) by having more screenshot/second!

I've been making fanvids for three years so just thought I'd throw some tips out if you guys want.

- You can rip your own dvds using a dvdripper I suggest Magic DVD ripper, but a free one is Freestar Dvd ripper and it works pretty well.

- You can also find them online. But it's against the rules to post links to them so if you want to know pm me.

-I pull the scenes right from the episode because I know the episodes very well and its easiest for me. But you can also cut the episodes up so you only have the clips you want then delete the rest.

- Best editing software is Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 if you have a mac though then its Final Cut Pro

zobothehobo agrees: so if you download an episode you can open it in vegas?

Yes. You can drag the episode into the Trimmer and cut the scenes you want from it. It will play the episode and you can jump around the episode to find what you need.
