How do you mend a broken heart?

With much regret and sorrow, today I have decided to end an era, a love affair...... with my much loved Mini Jet Black . 🙁

I have been offered a fair price for her, considering she is 17 years old. Since having my demon child (truly... I should have called him Damian) she really hasn't been driven, and her condition is deteriorating. There is no way in the world I would risk driving my boy in what is effectively a go-cart with a tin can as a roof, especially in a loony city like Bristol.

Since 1989 I have driven a succession of Minis. First a black Mini HL called Bitchbag (which had wide alloy wheels, tinted windows and had obviously been tweaked as it went like stink) which was stolen, then my Mum's yellow Mini City called MinBin 'cos she was a rust bucket. Then a silver Mini Ritz called Devil::cd:: :firedev: (I had 'the DEVIL made me do it' across the back window) and finally my Jet Black, who is a bit of a lady so was just called Min. Driving a mini is part of me 🙁 So much so my friends say it will be like day without night. :bawling:

So what can I do to make it better?

I'm planning on spending the cash on a new Mac Mini and a 200GB external harddrive and an iPod. I thought a Mini for a Mini had a kind of poetic ring, and would always remind me of my mini's.

Do you think that will work?

And what have you done to mend a broken heart?

While I can't answer the question as to whether your new purchases will fill the gap left by the departure of your Mini, I can sympathise. I'm still feeling the loss of my little, red '78 TR7 that was towed way about a year ago from where it'd sat gathering spiders and moss in my parents drive for about three years. Time can be cruel on Thatcher era motor cars. It had such endering little quirks too, like blowing switches all the time. I even lovingly remember the time a short caused the engine bay to catch on fire. Oh well, now I have to console myself by taking my turbo-charged Supra out for a spin. Much more power, very comfortable, but lacking the charm and character of that little, red TR7. ::crying2:

OMG, you are such a GUY! LOL! I lurve ya.
I love those quirks. This morning when I left for the mechanic to assess its value I had no heater and no windscreen wipers. A quick fiddle with the fuses and those returned, only for me to find out I had managed to knock out the signals in the process. Especially as I was travelling at quite a speed (a last rant down the bypass to blow off steam) and approaching a roundabout.

The car I drive daily is more sensible, warmer, faster, safer, power steering etc, but you just can't chuck it around the corners, and you don't get other Rover 200 drivers flashing and waving at you 🙁

Whatever you do, don't, I repeat, don't eat a gallon of ice cream. It might make you feel better for a minute, but then you're gonna get really really sick. But, something that I do usually helps me, I change something up, like my hair, or my clothes. Or even paint something a different color. You might just feel like a new person.

Wesley Wyndam P: Oh, my brother would be so mad at you! He is almost obsessed with macs. He's nuts. But you are officially my new hero. 😀

cool, but macs are crap
Duck Tape. Lots of Duck tape. It fixes everything.

OMG a man in my taste. Duck tape do fixes everything, it's like the miracule cure!

If not, could always try and find a new obssession, those usually makes things run smoother. Otherwise it's all about time when it comes to broken hearts. I know I'm not being very helpful, but there is always the duck tape.

you like duck tape
Ahhhh, sorry have to disagree with the Mac thing. I've always been Mac native.... had my first one almost the same year I got my first Mini! PC's drive me bonkers.... well, more bonkers than I already am, anyway 😉

Hubby has just called. He took the mini out for a last spin to get the shopping, and has discovered that not only are the signals not working, he now also has no headlights or backlights, and the relevant connector is missing it's end. We've just called the AA, and they said they will be 2 hours. I think I may be getting less heartbroken by the hour.

Pass me the duck tape would you? And a small tub of Haagen Dazs.

Black.... or maybe shiny silver? No.... they are hardly a challenge are they.

Hmmm..... Indigo with green stars???? Nope, too Glastonbury.

I know, How about gold with amber droplets?

well i'm having trouble with my good ol' corolla these days myself. hopefully that might help you feel better but probably not. i seem to be having electrical problems as the upper light in my car, the trunk light, the gear light (well that one's always been fussy) and the beeping "keys-in-car-while-door's-open" all aren't working. plus my old car deck stopped functioning as if it just felt like bugging me.

so my buddy removed it and put in an old corolla radio with a cassette deck (i didn't care at the time, i was going mental with the silence). but cassettes won't play and the radio keeps "forgetting" to remember its memorized stations.

i know that it's nothing compared to your MJB though. anyway, i heart macs. wish i had one myself. but i can't afford one at the moment, not to mention that brand of ice cream!

God you were SOOOOOO born in the eighties weren't you?!?!?

Is the hot pink in little neon lightening bolts or just plain diagonal stripes 😀
