How do you react when you meet a celebrity ?

I was thinking about that the last days. I'm wondering how do I react if I meet a famous person (singer, actors, everyone).. But I must say that I live in France and there is no one I'm a fan of. Most of the people I'm fan live in America. You guys are lucky in some way because you could meet an actor in a shop doing shopping or at events or just cross them on the street.. I would love that but life is expensive and actually I don't have the means to do a travel in America, too bad.. So, there are my questions : Do you have met celebrities and how did you react ?
 
I've only met two celebrities in my life. They came to Lisbon for a film festival. I met Willem Dafoe who is in some Lars Von Trier movies that I love, he was actually there to promote the uncut version of Nymphomaniac ; and I met John Malkovich who was there for the premiere of Casanova Variations (a movie produced by the creator of the film festival, Paulo Branco). I asked both of them for autographs and they gave them to me. I'm not a huge fan of either one of them, though they're good actors who've been in movies I like/love, so I was calm, called them by their first names and everything 😛

I don't know how I'd react if I met a celebrity crush or something. I'd probably fan girl on the inside while trying to maintain my cool on the outside!
 
I've met a few famous people. Usually I ask how they're liking where ever they are at that point in time and ask if it's okay if I take a photo with them if I've met them on the street.
At cons usually I say how far I've traveled to see them and how much I've adored their work and hope they have a great time in Perth (where I've gone to). I'm grinning like an idiot each time.

Although if I met Amber Benson, I'm sure I'd cry.

I've only met one minor celebrity ( Julia "Butterfly" Hill ) when I was taken to her speaking at a community college, and I found her speech interesting. I was 17. I wanted to talk about some of the things she said, but I figured she had too many people demanding her attention which must be tiresome and thus kept my distance. She ended up talking with those I was with and I did talk to her briefly, but I said much less than I'd otherwise have because I didn't want to burden her. This wasn't me being intimidated or awed, just considerate.

I'd be even more inclined to give celebrities space these days, no matter how much I might love their works.

I think you're confusing LA and New York with the rest of the US. Cause America's a pretty big place. So not much chance of meeting a celebrity here. 😉

I've only really met two (...er three?), I guess. Once me and my mom were eating at a restaurant for lunch and I noticed like 10 feet away was a group of people. Half of them had really bad big 80's hair. I said something to my mom, and she was like: I think that that's a couple of members of KISS. I was like: ok? Later on I went to use the restroom and I had to walk by the table to get there. I could tell that one of them got that look in his face like he was expecting me to bother him for an autograph. Think he was probably relieved/surprised when I just kept on walking passed him. 😉

Then there was that other time when I freaked out David Copperfield. 😛

If it wasn't planned, I just smile to them to let them know I know who they are and continue whatever I was doing.

If it's in a meet and greet environment I just tell them I love their work.

I mentioned this in a thread a while back...
Happened like maybe a year before this 'incident'. 😛 He was playing/magicianing (word? if not I'm making it one 😉) somewhere nearby. Went with a friend and her mom. Mom wanted an autograph, so we stood in a line - seriously. 😵 When we got through the line, me and my friend were like 'why not', but neither of us had anything to sign. So I looked in my pockets and found a piece of mystery paper. He took it and then instead of just signing it and moving on. He opened it up (was folded) and his eyes bugged out. It was a parent permission slip for some field trip a teacher had given me earlier at school. 😀 If only we had gotten a picture of that! 😛
 
Think sometimes my reaction is different depending on how much the celebrity means to me. Can be a bit more relaxed if their not that big to me. My one big miss was at a radio one event in 2002 where John Peel walked past me and I was too nervous to stop him and ask for a autograph or say hi. Guess there's always that thing about not wanting to disturb them. Of course Peel passed away two years later🙁 Though he did read out a letter of mine once on air which was a thrill!😛
 
It's funny, I've met quite a few celebrities over the years, a lot of them in strange places where you wouldn't expect them to be.

I guess the weirdest one was when some friends & I got to play cards with Lemmy & Wurzel from Motorhead at a Kerrang rock festival in 1984 (I think it was) 😵

Another time I was at a gig at the Hammersmith Odean (Can't remember the band playing). I was standing at the back with a beer when I got chatting to this girl next to me about the band. It was only when the lights came up I realised it was Chrissie Hynde. (She was really nice) 😎

I met & had a long chat with Rick Wakeman (Keyboard player from the band 'Yes') at a carnival in a little village called Runnymede (Yes where the Magna Carta was signed) near Heathrow....he lived nearby in a village called Sunningdale 🙄

Seen several famous actors on the underground in London & met lots of racing drivers from when I used to go watch Car racing.....a lot.

But funnily enough the only celeb I've met at a convention, where you would expect to meet celebs, was Amber Benson.

Think I would be ok with most celebs (never had a problem so far) but I think the exception would be Eliza...pretty sure I would lose the use of the English language & babble incoherently...... 🙁🙄
 
I've only met two celebrities in my life so far, and they both popped up at my job (I work at a restaurant), and therefore unable to truly have a conversation. They were Anderson Cooper, and Teddy Dunn (Duncan Kane from Veronica Mars.) Anderson Cooper I could live without, (plus if I can be honest, he was kind of a douche. Both times he's popped up. But I wasn't expecting much from him anyways. 😕) Now Teddy Dunn on the other hand threw me for a loop, because even though Duncan Kane wasn't one of my favorite characters on the show, Veronica Mars is behind Buffy as far as my all time favorite show, so I spazzed just a little bit. I called him Mr. Kane when he first arrived. He smiled and said so you're a fan, huh? Biggest, I said. Then I asked him what he was doing in D.C, then he told me he was a high powered lawyer now. I told him next time he comes around we have to take a picture together. Well...that never happened. Yet. I just try to treat celebrities as actual people. I doubt they wanted to be treated like royalty all of the time, unless their ego is the size of a continent.
 
I think that in front of people like Juliet Landau, I would be petrified. She impresses me too much in Drusilla, I could not say a word in front of her, she hypnotizes me too much I would be too afraid she cut my throat with her nail 😕
 
I've never really met a celebrity, but I have seen them out and about shopping or at a restaurant. I haven't gone up to anyone but I have stared more than is normal.

Pretty sure that they appreciate it when people don't bother them at a store or at a restaurant :)
@Antho don't worry Juliet is nothing like Drusilla, and she wears sunglasses a lot so unlikely you'll see her eyes!

I've met a lot at conventions, mostly I'm fine, get a little nervous sometimes, but some are great to have a bit of a chat with, especially if there's no queue.
