How do you watch tv?

Sounds like a stupid question but, how do you watch tv and do you have a smart tv (if so what do you think of it?)?
I use Sky and Netflix with a smart tv. The smart tv is ok but not fussed on it I guess as I don't use all it's abilities really.
 
It varies. Sometimes Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon. Occasionally stuff on actual TV like PBS or a football (NFL) game with the family. But usually I just DL stuff. Unless I'm not supposed to say that. 😳
 
If I had a choice in the matter I would more often than not watch television on TV. But since I'm a student living away from home then I tend to watch a lot of stuff Netflix, catch up, or sometimes on DVD's.
 
I watch all series on DVD's or downloaded stuff. Don't stream much either.
Only time I watch broadcasted TV are for sports and perhaps news. But that's not very often.

I got a samsung smart tv. But to be honest I haven't really used much of the functionality it has.
All I know is that the ordinary remote control is a terrible tool to browse the internet and watch YouTube clips with. lol
Haven't explored if there are any alternative way to control the tv though.

I don't have a smart TV.

I usually stream movies and shows from Netflix and if what I want to watch isn't on there, I'll either watch it online elsewhere or watch the DVD if I happen to have the DVD at home.
 
Smart TV is a pain. There are a million and one things that can get internet content that means a TV has no business trying to do it. All you want from a TV is the best picture quality. Unfortunately all TV's try to have everything so they can advertise as being the best.

So for me I have the TV but I only use the on and off button on it. Everything else comes through the receiver. I've got a roku box for Netflix and general catch up TV and a freesat box for live viewing. I do watch things on a tablet as well with my headphones but much prefer watching on the big plasma with surround sound.
 
Don't own a tv. I either watch DVDs, stream stuff off Amazon or watch shows on Netflix at my daughter's. Just me and my computer. When I'm at someone's house with regular tv, I can't believe the number and volume of ads. Wow.
 
I'm not really sure what a Smart TV is actually, yes I'm slow...

I watch dvds or Netflix typically, I don't get any tv-channels or anything. 🙂

A smart TV is just a TV that is capable of connecting to the Internet. Generally they have apps like Netflix and iplayer that you can use. The interface tends to be slow and awkward.

True dat. I've got a 3D Smart TV and I hate it.

I don't have tv channels, just Netflix and a hard drive full of bluray/3D movies (and tv shows). I refuse to pay for a tv license.

I think my TV is great, I just don't see the point of the bells and whistles. 3D is a terrible gimmick and everything can connect to the internet more effectively.

I'm not sure about the TV licence. I buy it mostly out of habit really. I could probably do without but I do like the odd bit of live viewing, mostly sports.

Agreed. Just have a regular TV, you don't need anything fancy.

The TV licence model maybe does need revamping, but then I have a lot of time for BEEB, like their prsentation and the range of programming. Like you I am a bit of a traditionalist, and find it a more healthy experience to sit down in front of TV and engage with friends/family than being cut off from the world by watching stuff on a small screen in my room.
 
The only thing that I have is Netflix. I watch it through my gaming console, so much better than a smart TV! It's just overall way faster (at least compared to my dad's smart TV).

And I still rent some series when they're not available on Netflix. I know, what age are we in? Stone age? But eh I get the series for free from the library! And there's no way I'm ever paying for cable or satellite.
 
I have a Smart TV, if what The Bronze said is true. I have my doubts as this Smart TV is ruddy dumb, it can tell me the name of a program and it keeps telling me the name of that program long after it has finished up to 90 minutes later.
Australian TV programmers have a thing of airing shows about the criminal history of this country. (Any excuse to show young women that work in nightclubs in their birthday suits).
I usually watch the news programs between 3 and 5 am a few comedies and some non fiction programs. I rely heavily on DVD's when I'm not on this computer, normal DVD's not Blu-ray.
 
I have a dumb TV, but a smart(er) Blu-ray player. 😉 So I can watch Netflix or Youtube on it. No Hulu app, though. 🙁 I usually just throw stuff on USB drive and put it in player and watch that way, since I don't get many channels.
 
Digital cable TV. Now I'm at the beach, I do have cable, but not digital, and I can't see any of my favorite shows because they are all dubbed and there isn't the option for original sound. 😡 I don't do Netflix or Youtube, only DVD.

I agree. I do prefer to watch shows on TV. I like watching new shows when they air. The commercials on TV don't bother me, it's the ads on YouTube and Hulu that do! lol. So it's a mixture of cable TV and Netflix, or the online streaming service that comes with our cable provider. I'm not picky about how I watch my favorite shows, just as long as I get to watch them. I do like to wind down at night and just put a sitcom on TV, usually The Big Bang Theory. lol
 
I'll use my PS4 to watch Netflix and YouTube. I refuse to pay for a tv licence, as it's a ridiculous annual charge to basically own a TV, and it only goes to the BBC. Get with the times, man.
Other than that I will stick to DVDs and Blurays. Although Blurays are a real pain at times with their awkward software. At least analogue worked back in the day.
