How far do vamp appearance changes go?

I have a question, I hope it's not too stupid?
I was wondering, how far can vampires change their looks?
I've some Anne Rice books and the vamps in these books aren't even able to really change their hair (I think one vampire girl wanted her hair cut short but everytime she got them cut, the next morning they were grown back).
At least that's possible in Buffyverse, as the Fang Gang has shown us over the years.
But let's say, for instance, a vamp gets plastic surgery. Would it stay like this forever, or would it grow back? Especiall if a vamp would try to get rid of his bumpy face, would it work? Or could you remove all of a vamps teeth and make him less dangerous that way?

Sorry if it's a stupid question, its just been on my mind since this morning and I would just love to know.

That's very interesting- the part about taking out the teeth I mean. I doubt any vamp would voluntarily give up his/her teeth though, haha, but the wondering as to whether it would be permenant is interesting.

I suppose it could be like when you clip birds' wings to stop them from flying. Eventually, those crucial feathers grow back and they're able to fly again. So maybe it would be the same for vampire teeth...I mean with all the fights they get into at least a few must have lost some teeth along the way but I've never seen a gap-toothed vampire. Though that certainly would be an amusing sight! Haha

If a vampire got plastic surgery it would proabally stay. Untill a few 100 years past and it would probally do back. Cant say I have really though about it. A vampire with no teeth would be funny. Trying to get false teeth on the NHS lol.

well, as far as we know, as long as humans live, plastic surgery is permanent. but what if it really DOES wear off or change after a time, and we don't know it because we don't live for hundreds of years as a vamp would? So its a possibility it might not be permanent.

That's an interesting idea of the teeth bit... another way to neuter them? though not really because im sure they'd just start using knives to open a wound in their victims... (anyone ever see the movie Martin?).

As far as your first question goes, when Angel wasa first turned, his hair was about the same length as ai appeared in the series, and he was clean shaven. In several flashbacks, he had much longer hair and at least once, a mustache. Now, granted, they could have been false (they were on the actor, certainly), but it seems more likely that vampires, at least in the Buffyverse, do have normal hair growth, though it may be somewhat slower that with a living human. They are, after all, animated corpses, and corpses do continue to have normal hair and fingernale growth for a short time after death.

As for having the bumps and fangs removed by a plastic surgeon, it would seem unnecessary since they can assume total human appearance at will. If a vamp really wanted to do it, of course, it would probably last at least through the first vamp/human/vamp cycle, after which the normal vampire face would reassert itself. The fangs would almost have to grow with each change, otherwise someone who wore false teeth in normal life would be fang-less as a vampire (Imagine being gummed to death by a toothless vampire!)

Actually, what happens is that the skin shrinks as it dessicates, revealing hair and fingernails that were just below the surface of the skin. The hair and fingernails don't actually grow.

This just makes me think of Willow's "Angel... How do you shave?" hehehe... The question that always bothered me the most.

Bringing my favorite non-Buffyverse character into the picture... 🙂 perhaps it's the same as with Trek's Data, who can let his hair and beard grow at will, but usually doesn't change the way it is? I mean, it's clearly different from Rice's works, since Buffyverse vamps can and do change appearance over time, but i see no logical need why they should "naturally" grow on a body that technically is dead...

I'm not sure about the plastic surgery part... given the fact that they so drastically change their facial features when they go "combat facey", I lean towards the assumption that they could get PS, but it would become undone once they go through a cycle of change-rechange (reverting to their "standard, inborn" human face).

And the teeth... I totally go for regrowth there, as they pretty much magically appear at vamping out anyway (I really don't think that vamps have two sets of teeth, retracting their human ones and extending the pointy version...).
