How good is your memory?

Do you have a good memory? What things you remember better?

I have an awful memory. Although it's a little weird. I can't remember what I said 10 seconds ago, but I can remember things that happened when I was very little. I remember a dream I had when I was 5 years old, and very vividly, and many events from my childhood. I guess it's a short term memory what I have.

I also know, by tests, that I have a terrible listening memory, but I have a very good visual memory (I'm not sure what they call those). That explains why I can't remember what numbers they just told me, but I can memorize text and scripts amazingly.

Hahaha Chosen Enemy dude, I'm so with you. I have the most confusing memory cells. I know virtually every episode title and almost every line of Buffy like the back of my hand. Ask me what happened an hour ago, and my mind will draw blank after blank after blank.......😛 I guess I have what you call "selective memory". Hahaha.

I tend to remember stupid unimportant things, but forget things that I actually need to remember D: 😡

Me too. :D
I think I have a really good memory as far as remembering when things happened. It's hard to remember minor things sometimes. I also hate those rare occurrences when you literally forget something you JUST thought.

Yeah, I hate that. It usually only happens when I'm trying to do 475784390 things at once though :p
My memory's ok. Better than my boyfriend's at least. Although I hate forgetting what I was about to say in the middle of a conversation, say if I've been interrupted. It's infuriating. I feel totally lost, like someone's just plucked that information out my head just as I was about to say it.

Hour? I can't remember 10 seconds ago, I'm not joking!
People say I have a selective memory. Is there really such thing or did they just make it up to explain people like us?).

I have no memory before the age of 5 and only a few before like 8.

I remember the best from 11 to now. I have a really good memory from then on.

I know! I think it has a thing to do with concentration problems.

Maybe an overactive imagination haha

That happened to me in college once, so in the end I wrote down what I wanted to ask so I wouldn't forget 😛

I think the filing cabinets in my brain are a bit messed up.
Very possible too! I can tell it's possible because of me.

I notice it happens a lot when I'm in a conversation, and the person is, for example, explaining a concept or an idea to me. They're going on and on and I've already got it and my mind's started wandering to something cool related to what we're talking about. Then they keep blabbering on and I've forgotten what it was. And for all I know it could have been the coolest thing I'd ever say. Instead it's lost forever.

I think I think too much.

Sometimes I tend to talk to someone about something, and I think of something else which has something to do with what I'm saying, but is not what I'm saying. And because it's somehow connected to the topic, I just have to say it, even if it's not exactly connected.

I'm not sure I said it right, I got confused. But people call what I do "branches". I'm scattering to all directions instead of sticking with what I'm actually trying to say. I just HAVE to say things that come up in my mind when the thing I'm talking about remind me of them. Otherwise I'd forget. And that could happen. like I said, in a few seconds.

I know exactly what you mean. I end up catching up with myself during a conversation, almost like I'm remembering why I started talking in the first place haha
It's really easy for me to remember things like scripts, poems, and words. I'm a really visual person. If I learn how something is spelled once, it's unlikely that I'll forget how to spell it. Although I do have my off days...like when I can't remember how to spell insanely easy things like restaurant. Sometimes my brain just...shuts down, and then I drool a little bit.

Kidding (well, unless sleeping counts as my brain shutting down). I think I have a good memory when I want to use it haha if someone tells me, "you better not forget this phone number/address!" I won't. I can't seem to remember when my mom calls me or when certain projects are due though 😉 I have a selective memory. Oh, but I am a pro when it comes to remembering where the car is parked! Whenever I go out with friends everyone stares at me as soon as we get back to the parking lot. I take pride in that skill.

I drool too when sleeping. Ew

I never put any thought into spelling, which means it must have just stuck the first time I saw the word written down.
I forgot to say. I also have a habit of forgetting completely everyday words. I forgot the word 'garden' once, and had to describe it by saying 'you know, that green bit outside the front of your house?'. Embarrassing.

something very similar has happened to me...a few times. I think they call them brain farts ;)

I just realized we probably have the exact same kind of memory!
I wonder if they have a name for our kind or memory.... come on, doctors, think!

Haha maybe we've just discovered it. 😉

I did well at school and I'm weirdly very good at remembering things like Buffy episode titles. I used to play a guessing game with my other Buffy-loving friends, were they would say a line of dialogue from a random ep from any season and I'd give them the episode title. It must be a messed up filing system in my head.

But is it really a memory thing or the fact that we've seen the show so many times?

My dad used to say to me, when I was in school, and I've always been really really bad at math, that if I invested my time and my brain in math like I did with Buffy, I would have been a genius. Of course since then I've been tested and they found out that I have a math disability. Which is fine, because I hate math anyway.

I think it's a memory thing. I've got friends who are equally into the show as me, and can't remember things like that. I don't really know if that's a particularly useful skill to have. It helped me remember things verbatim for exams and stuff I guess.

I was ok at maths, but I hated trying to get my head around it. I like to be able to fully understand something before continuing, so when the teachers would give us a seemingly random equation and tell us to just get on with working out other examples, I'd want to know where this equation came from and its history and why we use those symbols in algebra etc. I couldn't even get past that part. I had to disengage my brain to pass it, even though I hated doing that.

I feel like for me, it's an all or nothing thing - more or less (and I tend to live in the grey so this is kinda strange) but something either sticks and I remember it forever or it slips through the cracks in my mind (of which there are many I'm sure) and it's gone.

more or less. 🙂

Haha. It's sort of an obsession of yours I guess.
Just try not to say the word "equation" to me. Every time I think about something mathematical or try to calculate... like the robots you see in movies, where their heads overload while smoke is coming out of their ears, and explode. Or like in Hush, when Buffy screams till it blows up the Gentlemen's heads. That's how I feel.
