How good is your memory?

I have a shocking memory! I remember random bits from childhood, but I dont remember much in my 20s (probably due to the huge amount of alcohol and medications). I have to write all my appointments in my phone with alarms, even things like catching up with mates of family has to go in there or I forget. I'd be absolutely lost without my phone! I get lost in conversations all the time, forget peoples names (even when I have been working with them for years), I can re-read books cos I dont remember what happens in them haha.

I have an awesome visual memory and a penchant for memorizing numbers. If someone gives me directions using NSEW, miles, or whatever, I can never remember. If they tell me to turn left and the white house with the red fence, then right at the giant rock, I'm all over it. I still remember friends' phone numbers and addresses from elementary school. I have birthdates and anniversaries ingrained in my brain. When I worked at a financial institution I had client's account numbers memorized.

Other than that, my memory is not so great.

My memory used to be pretty good up until high school. Then I came to the Netherlands and started doing weed regularly, and that really kills your memory. Take that as a lesson, people 😛

Hm, I'm not too sure. When I think of good memory, I just think of studying and how much I remember... so I guess I have good studying techniques, at the very least?

I like to be able to fully understand something before continuing, so when the teachers would give us a seemingly random equation and tell us to just get on with working out other examples, I'd want to know where this equation came from and its history and why we use those symbols in algebra etc. I couldn't even get past that part. I had to disengage my brain to pass it, even though I hated doing that.

I completely agree with you, maths is taught in a horrendous fashion that doesn't lend itself well to understanding. Yes we may be able to get the right answer, but we generally have no clue as to why/how the equation works. Forcing us to spend copious amounts of our free time trying to find out the backstory and to truly grasp each step of the solving process.

I've an average memory, not phenomenal, but it serves me well.

I think we all have the capacity to learn anything we want, the issues that tend to prevent that however is encountering poor communication and presentation, as is common in the likes of maths class.

I've had to spend about 80% of my study time on maths since the age of 14, but it's been worth it. A lot can be said for persistence, it more than makes up for lack of natural ability, and can even make the dull knives in the draw like me look sharp.

Aw, I love maths.

Well, I had 2 after school private maths teachers in 9th grade and still failled.

My memory is just dreadful, I'm the person who gets dressed, puts on a coat and goes to the train in the morning. Well there I have to open my coat to make sure that I did in fact get dressed, that I'm wearing both shoes and what I'm wearing all together... 😉 Lol, now when spring is coming I'm expecting a lot of missed trains cause I had to run back for my shoes... that rarely happens in the winter (not to say never though...)

Just try not to say the word "equation" to me. Every time I think about something mathematical or try to calculate... like the robots you see in movies, where their heads overload while smoke is coming out of their ears, and explode. Or like in Hush, when Buffy screams till it blows up the Gentlemen's heads. That's how I feel.

haha!!! oh this is exactly what i feel like is going to happen to me,even in basic situations like counting change in a shop i panic!

My memory is pretty poor, i only remember silly things. I am so bad at work, The moment i leave the office my work brain shuts down and deletes anything work related. So when i get in the next day, i have no idea what i am doing lol.
I remember dreams and nightmares quite well for some reason. but anything important just gets pushed out by something buffy related haha.

My memory is great when it comes to exams and my long-term memory is pretty good, but my short term memory isn't great. If I'm not paying attention (and I get sidetracked quite easily) then I forget what I'm talking about midsentence sometimes.

My memory is totally weird.

I have a partial photographic memory with images. I used to study for tests by memorizing my pages of notes, and then I'd read them in my head in order to get the answers.

But! I forget all sorts of things that I'm supposed to do. Like to pay my bills. LOL

My memory, while I wouldn't call it awful, is quite odd. I can't remember something I said 2 seconds ago, or why I went upstairs...Sometimes i forget my own phone number...But I remember stupid little insignificant details from YEARS ago. Like something someone said, or something I wrote..It's ridiculous.

Not sure if it's due to a terrible short term memory and a phenomenal long term memory or troll God.....

The comic! :D
I have a terrible memory. I think my long term is alright but short term not so much. This is why I hate getting introduced to people because they'll say their name and I'll have forgotten it by the time they've finished saying it. And remembering stuff like 'the oven is on and you have food in there' just doesn't happen. I have to set alarms on my phone to remind me to get stuff out so it doesn't burn.

Weirdly, lately I've been having moments like...say I'll be holding a friends bag for them while they do something and they take it back... five mins later I'm like "did you take your bag back?!" 'cause I totally can't remember handing it back. Or I'll say somehting to someone and five mins later have to ask them if I already said that! It's so annoying!
