Okay, since the new season of HIMYM started yesterday, I thought we should maybe have a new thread where we can discuss it, including spoilers. This means, if you don't want to know what's going on in s4 just yet, better stop reading cos I', about to post something about the episode.

Btw, how come that HIMYM doesn't have an own subforum? I think it's big enough a show for it...I mean, we have several discussin threads of it here, so it would make sense to give it an own subforum.

So what did everyone think of the first episode?

I thought some of it was sohilarious. Like Marshall staning around everywhere, just asking "What are you doin?" That was sooo funny.
Also, in this episode we saw a whole new side of Barney, which was very interesting. What I foud quite sad though was how he tried to be nice around Robin and she was just, like, expectin sex jokes or whatever. I really hope these two make it in the end.

spoiler warning karma :)
I am angry with danish television...They won't send HIMYM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well they just started airing s1 in Germany last week and I'm not sure about here (both Belgian and Dutch networks we get, but I don't have my own TV) but I never really let that get into my way 😛

I totally loved the season opener. I think that Barney may be a tad more infatuated than in love but I spose we shall see and Marshall so needs to get a job. And how much did you love Sarah Chaulk when she was all i would pretend to love star wars even though I hate. So sweet.

Great start of the season!

I hope they can keep Barney being Barney though.
Was so hoping that he would have a girl at home in the end after all. 🙂

Next question is how long Ted and Stella will last, not so long I think.

/SK

I loved it! What a great way to open the season. And it only further proved Ted and Stella's wrongness for each other.

I loved Marshall listening in on Stella watching Star Wars and defending Chewbacca. That was probably the highlight of the whole episode for me. And I felt so bad for Barney when he went out with Robin and she wasn't interested. I have to wonder if he'll stop sleeping around for her again, but to be honest, I kind of hope he doesn't...I mean, I really love Barney/Robin, but, after this episode, I realized that the whole womanizer thing really makes his character. Oh, and speaking of Barney, it's good to see he got his life-sized Storm Trooper back!

Ooh, I almost forgot to mention...I'm so glad Alyson grew her bangs out again. They were annoying me so much in season 3...they just didn't suit her at all. I'm definitely not loving Marshall's longer hair, though.

Oh, i watched the episode yesterday and it was awesome!!! 😀 The Star Wars thing was so funny!

- I thought the "new" barney isn't so good as the "old" barney BUT i'm still a robin/barney fan 🙂
-About stella.. i hope she's not the mom. I would be really disappoited if she was the mom. but i don't think she is. i think ted is prob. going to break up with her in the next episodes (... because he found out that she didn't like Star Wars!!! lol XD)

Yeah I'm digging the start of season 4. I have no problem with Barney being a sweetheart, I always knew he had it in him! Does anyone see a bit of Spuffy likeness to Robin and Barney? I know it sounds a little strange at first, but my analogy makes sense when you think about it. The bad boy, that then slowly becomes interested but fights with his feelings towards the girl.

I thought Marshall was such a cutie in this episode, when he pops up from behind the couch to scare Stella. Awesome.

Oh and I was thinking about Stella and in some episode where Ted goes to a nightclub he says that the mother was there that night, and why would Stella be at nightclub? She'd be at home looking after her daughter. So I think it's pretty safe to say that Stella won't marry Ted. Or maybe she will and they'll get divorced?

So has anyone else got the idea in their head that the job Barney told Robin to apply is going to be elsewhere? So she'll have to leave before Barney has a proper chance to tell her that he loves her.

Btw, how come that HIMYM doesn't have an own subforum? I think it's big enough a show for it...I mean, we have several discussin threads of it here, so it would make sense to give it an own subforum.

it used to have a subforum. a bunch of shows discussed in this forum used to. i think, uh...bones, 24, and something else besides HIMYM. my memory's not that good on exactly which shows. anyway, now theres just a big whedonverse forum. i dont see a huge problem with it.

as far as the episode, i have to say, im not a barney/robin fan. its weird. usually, i either like couples no one else likes, or like the couples the majority likes. ive never disliked a couple the majority seems to like. totally new perspective, hehe.

although im glad to hear in this thread that lots of people prefer the "old barney". i do too. i think this episode is just further evidence that barney would have to make some changes if he and robin were ever going to be together, and i wouldnt like that. thats one the reasons i dont ship barney/robin.

as far as the episode as a whole, t'was good 🙂. the star wars thing was amusing, and i think it was sweet how stella was okay with not saying anything about it, and also very sweet how marshall didnt run and tell ted that she was lying, as i kind of expected him to do, which probably would have broken them up or something. anyway, good episode :coolman:.

Oh and I was thinking about Stella and in some episode where Ted goes to a nightclub he says that the mother was there that night, and why would Stella be at nightclub? She'd be at home looking after her daughter.

That's actually no contradiction. The party you were referring to was St. Patrick's Day. And when Stella explains to Ted why they can't date, she says something like "My social calender is moving out with the girls once a month when I can get a sitter. I mean, I've been to a party once this year, st. paddy's Day was awful, I left early."
That WOULD fit the profile. It's the right party and if you remember, the guy in front of the club said that there are too many girls inside the club, so the "with my girls" part would also fit. On top of that it seemed to be a rather wild party with a lot of drinking etc. (we've seen what it did to Ted) and Stella doesn't really seem like the type who would enjoy that, I mean, she seems to mature. So, I'm not saying she' the mother, but so far she could fit the profile.

This episode was awesome! 80 year old Barney, the constant Interventions...hilarious (haha, and now I actually know what an Intervention is...is this what the Buffy episode was named after?). And I'm glad to know that something will have to happen to keep the gang together in New York if they still have the appartment.

hehe, this is what i love about BB. i come here like "im gonna post about the awesomeness of this episode because i bet no one else did", and yet, here's Cangel, proving me wrong in her own awesomeness! :woot: old barney rocks, the interventions were super-funny, and i am glad that lily and marshall are keeping the apartment 🙂. pretty much, what Cangel said, but there's nothing wrong with agreeing that this episode rocked! it! 😀

The interventions were hilarious! I especially loved the ones they staged over Marshall's hat (Robin's rhyming letter! xD) and Lily's crappy British accent. Also, this was one of the first episodes where I genuinely liked Ted...I couldn't stop laughing at his pronunciation of "encyclopedia" and the scene where he came home from the renaissance fair with a mace had me in tears. And of course, Barney is still awesome. Loved his old man costume.

Also, just a quick thing I noticed...does anyone else think that Lily might have been pregnant in the flash forward? She didn't drink any of the scotch and she gave Marshall a weird little look. And Barney and Robin were looking a little closer than usual...or maybe I'm just overanalyzing it.

cool catch, would explain why her characters belly grows as Alys grows. :)
Yeah, it was a great episode. HIMYM as its best.
The interventions sure was funny, love how they gang have a tendency to take things a bit too far... 🙂

Don't know about that forward flash, I didn't notices the not drinking or sitting close. Guess we'll see.

What I did notices was a huge continuity misstake, the girl at the table clearly takes the cellphone when she leaves.
Still it appears on table in the next scene when she comes back to get it. :tongue2:

Okay, I just watch the new epiosde from last night, and if you haven't seen it yet, don't read this because it's a HUGE spoiler!!!

So Stella is not the Mom. Didn't see that one coming to be honest.

And did anyone else feel kinda bad from Barney? I mean, if he had only stayed on track, something might have happened between Robin and him.

You didn´t see what coming? Stella not being the mother? Hasn´t that been very obvious?

And making spoilers are easy. [spoi ler]*insert text*[/spoi ler] without the spaces makes this
*insert text*
. Makes things a lot easier once you know how to do them.

spoiler tag explaining karma :)
Should I have seen it coming? Well, it wasn't too obvious in my opinion. You didn't know for sure.
well at least all the must conditions were there...eg her being on a party at St. Patrick's Day

One can never be 100% sure of anything but
besides the fact that of course the writers wanted us to believe it could have been her I´m pretty sure we´ll not meet the mother until the very end. Either it is the creaters desiscion to stop making the show or they get canceled I´m sure they´ll get a few epsodes to get her into the plot. The main thing about Stella was for me the fact that the kids didn´t seem to care that much. You´ve noticed that they don´t like to listen haven´t you? 😉 If they thought for a moment that Stella was their mother wouldn´t they given some reaction to it? I´m not saying it´s wrong or stupid to have thought that she was. It´s just that I never thought that. But of course. I´ve been wrong before...

just gonna spoiler-fy this whole thing, just to be safe:

well, about the kids, they kind of seemed bored the whole time, so i dont think stella not being the mother had anything to do with that. and if it seemed like my dad had been talking for three years *winkwink*, i would be bored too! 😛 i dont care what its about! id be going, 'tell me already!' but i agree that you could kind of tell, about stella. it just seemed to fit.

and on barney, i like how lily seemed so sure barney wouldnt make it 🙂. im glad he didnt though. it was funny, and not barney/robin. i am glad she quit the japan job, also.
