This is a series of 6 short stories written by different authors and its set between the end of season 1 and the beginning of season 2.
Dusted - Michelle West
It starts right after Prophecy Girl. It shows Buffy saying bye to Giles, Angel and her mum before her dad comes and picks her up. The Anointed One is playing tricks with her mind and she keeps seeing her loved ones die. Its a good story and it links little things in with the show, like the reason for Buffy cutting her hair. It also looks at her relationship with her dad. The writter does a good job of matching Buffy, Giles and The Master with the show.
Absalom Rising - Nancy Holden
This story looks at Giles, Willow and Xander's actions after Prophecy Girl and how they ended up burying The Masters bones. It also tries to explain why The Masters bones didnt turn to dust. Jenny and Angel also help out and it introduces the vampire that appears in When She Was Bad. The characters are well written and its a good story.
Looks Can Kill - Cameron Dokey
This story focuses on how Giles and Angel come to trust each other. The only people absent in this story are Buffy and Cordy (who doesnt appear in any of these stories). The storyline is ok, it features a shapeshift, but the characters are a bit hit and miss.
No Place Like - Cameron Dokey
This story looks at Buffy in LA with her dad. It shows how she's still struggling with her death at the hands of The Master. Its a nice short story were Buffy gets to help someone without having to actually fight anything. Buffy and Giles are sometimes hit and miss but you could put Buffy's oddness down to her still having issues about The Master.
Uncle Dead and the Fourth of July - Yvonne Navarro
This features Jenny, Giles and Angel. The characters arent always true to the show but its a nice short story about Giles and Jenny being on a date. They do make a vague reference to Mayor Wilkins, which was a nice reference with the show.
The Show must Go On - Paul Ruditis
Again its another Giles, Jenny and Angel storyline but Willow and Xander do appear. It ties in quite nicely and explains why Willow and Xander say to Buffy that there summer has been really quiet but yet we have 4 stories of Angel, Jenny and Giles fighting demons. The adults keep Willow and Xander out of trouble as much as possible. The characters again are hit and miss but it is only a short story.
Has anyone else read this book? I'd completely forgotten all these stories, so it was fun re-reading them again 🙂
