How long before a reunion becomes impossible

Leading on from the "where are they now" thread. I just wanted to know people's thoughts on how long could Joss leave it to do another Buffy project with the same cast before it becomes improbable?

With the actors slowly getting older as each year passes i fear the probability of another project keeps drifting away. If you look at it rationally in fewer than 10 years time many of the actors won't be able to play their characters without it looking strange. They will be too old and not able to portray their character in the right way.

Does that concern those people who still hope for either a television or movie about Buffy with the cast who make the show what it is. Notice i'am disregarding the movie in 2012 which i think should be boycotted by all Buffy fans and not even recognized infact.
 
I think it's very, VERY unlikely that any sort of reunion show would EVER be possible.

The 'human' characters would be fine, storylines could be written that accounts for their older appearance. That would be no problem.

Spike, Angel and Drusilla, however, would be highly unlikely ever to make a return. At least not while being played by the original actors. James Marsters is rapidly closing in on fifty, David Boreanaz has just hit forty, and Juliet Landau, while still one of the most beautiful women I've ever met, certainly looks different than she did in S2.

I think the script would have to be amazingly well written for Sarah to even THINK about returning to Buffy. She's been pretty adamant about distancing herself from the character as much as possible.

I honestly don't see a reunion project ever happening.
 
Yeah i wanted something whether it was a movie straight to dvd or something..anything but i come to relize it will most likely never happen
 
You say that about Sarah but she mostly refers to Buffy in a positive light. Don't get me wrong i think your right in suggesting a reunion is unlikely but i do hope they'll do it for the fans of the show. Sadly i believe many feel the show ended at the right time and i don't really think a sufficient amount of the cast would be interested in going back to it.

If season 7 is the end then its a little depressing considering how many people followed and loved the show and would welcome another part of the story. On the other hand i can see what people are saying when they say where could the story go and could it ever compete with the days when Buffy was in its hayday.

I would really love a reunion because i love the show and also to show these new shows that they aren't on the same level as Buffy. The influx of vampire related shows reinforces in my view just how good Buffy was because none of them are on the same level.

You can imagine the excitement though if Joss did manage to get all of the cast back. It would rate really well, and it would be so intriquing. I suppose we can all hope, then again i don't doubt their are a few people on here who don't want the show to come back, me personally well i miss it
 
Yes, NOW she refers to it positively, but when the show ended, she didn't like to talk about it much, and took roles as different to Buffy as she could possibly get. I think she's realized now that Buffy was one of the best things to ever happen to her, and she's learned to embrace that. But she has said, on more than one occasion, that she would only be willing to do a Buffy reunion project if Joss was at the helm, and if it had a theatrical release...right? I'm not making that up, am I?

We would all be running around doing the dance of joy if a new Buffy project was announced, of course we would. But the fact of the matter is, the cast has moved on, and I think it would take an awful lot of money and talks to get the majority of the main cast back. James Marsters said at a convention I attended that he would love to play Spike again, but he knows he's not getting any younger and he doesn't know how much longer he can get away with playing a character who doesn't age.

Right now, the only thing we have to keep us happy in this verse is the Season 8 comics, which is canon to the show. And in all honesty, IF there ever was a new project from Joss and this verse, it would probably be based on the comics, and one of the new Slayers, IMHO.
 
I think it's already past too late for a reunion. These actors have aged, and especially for James and David, whose characters aren't supposed to age, that's no good. So I think we missed the boat on a reunion show a LONG time ago.
 
The closest thing to a reunion project that we could ever hope for would be an animated series or movie with key former cast members returning to furnish the voices for their characters. That was done with the original Star Trek series, using the original cast and many of the original writers, and, of course, the Great Bird himself supervising the entire thing. The animation was only fair, but otherwise it was great. Beyond that, if the money were there, which I'm certain that it wouldn't be, they could go the "Avatar" route, combining live actors with CGI technology. Either of those alternatives would allow at least most of the original cast to be involved, with age and physical condition not a factor at all. An advantage with the animated series would be that the actors wouldn't be tied down to a particular location. They could read their lines at any local recording studio, wherever they happened to be, even if they were working on another project. Also, there is the added advantage of presenting a new challenge for Joss, something that he seems to love.

And, with all of that said, I ain't holding my breath in hopes of it ever happening.
 
I'm too much of a fangirl not to harbour a little wish to see the cast together again, I must agree with those who think it highly unlikely. Besides, I think the ending of "Chosen", with Buffy's little smile and a world of options open, is pretty much perfect.

Then the comics came. I have a really hard time seeing how they can pull off a reunion thingy whitout having a budget the size of an ocean without merely brushing the comics aside and make either the comics or the reunion screen project an alternative reality.
 
I think it's already too late. If they did a reunion I couldn't keep myself from watching but I'd be afraid they'd ruin it. I loved how both series ended (so much so that I have ignored the comics, and I will keep ignoring them til someone posts a spoiler for a Spuffy reunion, at which point I probably won't be able to resist them anymore).

I think it was David who said that, but I think Sarah would basically say the same thing.

And we have the Season 8 comics, so that's something.

And the Paley Fest Reunion last year, so there's also that, which is out on DVD...
 
I doubt it. Everyone has moved on, and that time has passed. As Willow-tree said, they did that reunion and it was very enjoyable to watch 🙂
 
Is the Paley Fest DVD the same as what's on youtube? I enjoyed it but it missed a lot of vital characters, notably Tony Head, Alyson Hannigan and David Boreanaz.

I totally agree. IF there ever was a reunion involving the original cast, I'd HAVE to watch, but I'd be terrified at it ruining the stories as I have grown to love them.
 
On the other hand, doing a movie based strictly on "Angel" might work better, given the fact that David could still pull off playing his character with the help of the proper makeup and camera angels. Actors have been doing that as long as Hollywood has been making movies. All of the other characters, at least the ones surviving past the end of Season 5 and into the comic series, being mortal, would have aged normally with the exceptions of Spike, who might not even be included in the story line, or simply dismissed by someone, maybe Faith, since we've got to have SOME Slayer present, saying something like, "Hey, I got a letter from Spike today. He said that working with that team of Slayers was almost like being back in Sunnydale." and Illyria, having a mortal body, might have aged anyhow.
 
I also think Angel has more loose ends. Then again it was not as much of a cultural phenomenon.

Unfortunately an Angel show would heavily involve Angel and Spike which are our two biggest offenders on the list here.
 
As much as I enjoy Spike and what he brings to either show, he would be the least important member of the "Angel" cast, seeing as how he was only there full time for one season. If they could figure out a workable way to bring back Cordy and Wes, I don't think that there would be an overwhelming fan revolt about Spike's absence, especially if it were explained somehow (referring to him as having left to be with Buffy would be my favorite, since she almost certainly wouldn't be back regardless, especially to only be a guest on what would be an extension of Angel's show)

Well they had a Paley reunion sans-Boreanaz.

In-character would be impossible unless they use CGI (which would cost more than an entire episode's budget) for Marsters & Boreanaz. That is unless everyone just says "screw it" and try to pass those two off as 20 years younger with makeup. Laughably, this was recently done with the TV Movie "Who Is Clark Rockefeller" where the 46 year-old former Will & Grace star, Eric McCormack was supposed to be in his twenties in some scenes :tongue3:

The most realistic scenario in my mind would be an animated film for adults like Bruce Timm's DCU franchise. And given that Boreanaz, Marsters, NPH, Nathan Fillion, and Adam Baldwin have recently been the core stars of Timm's DCU franchise, something tells me they'd be likely to revisit their original characters in that medium...

But even that's a long shot.
 
I don't think there will ever be a reunion. We can dream though. I would literally die if they could at least do a two hour tv movie or something. I still wish with everything I have that Faith would've gotten her own show. We'd have a better chance at seeing the other characters guest star on there. Buffy should've gone on for at least 9 or 10 seasons. It was too great to end after only 7 years.
 
I gave up on the movie long ago. And even though I'd love to see SMG, NB and AH on my screen playing Buffy, Xander and Willow, I won't trade S8 for that. A movie isn't like a series of comics or a TV show. It's just two hours. They'd never satisfy me. I'm happy for what I'm getting with S8, happy with all the discussion and guessing. A movie won't give me that.

BUT if I get a movie that counts S8 as canon, I'd never say no to that.
