How long does it take to turn?

OK, this had been bugging me for a while. How long does it take to wake up as a vampire once someone has been bitten? They don't seem to be very consistent with it.

In phases, Angelus bit Tereasa and she woke up in her coffin in the funeral home the next day.

But most of the other times, vampires rise from their grave, which would suggest that they've been dead at least two or three days.

So what's the story? Has there been any back story on this, or does anyone have any theories? It's not really addressed in the show, but maybe the Watcher's Guide say something?
 
i know, they're just inconsistent.

i forget the title, but it was the one where buffy temporarily gets her powers taken away for a test, and meanwhile that crazy vampire had sired one of the watchers council guys. i'm pretty sure the guy who was sired turned into a vampire within a few hours or something.
it's pretty stupid how they do that since you always see every other vampire climb out of their grave :\
 
Just a thought here...but maybe there is a way of speeding up the process. Like, maybe, the less blood they take from the victim before they drink the vamp's blood, the quicker they wake up when they are sired. There are probably tons of ways of explaining it, and I don't think there has ever been a straight answer about that. So, good question.
 
Well in an ep of Angel, Darla explains how the process worked. Something like, "Drain my blood untill you feel my heart start to stop, then I'll drink from you". This would imply that there needs to be as little blood as possible in the "victim" before s/he is turned. Maybe...and I'm clutching at straws here...some vamps blood is more virulent than others. So while the standard time is a few days, some can be turned in less time. Flimsy, I know, but the best I could come up with 😀

Okay but what about the ones Spike killed over several days and burried, that rose all at the same time, when Buffy was fighting Spike in "Sleeper"!

Yeah, what the hell are the chances of that ever happening.

Does it seem to anyone else the vamps seem to rise from the dead only when something edible is around?? Hey, that could be a reason. 😛
 
Hmm could be, when Buffy is around, the chances of a vamp rising seem to be mayorly increasing!
 
I'm not sure if this is official or not, but i heard that it had to do with how long did it take to the demon soul to infect the human body, in some cases more than in others. I thought that explanation was coherent and i sticked with it.
