how many times do I have to log in?

When I come to the site I have to log in every time, then each time before I post a reply, I have to log in again so that the reply will be allowed. Sometimes the post is refused even though the posting rules box (bottom left) says that I am allowed to post. Any reason for this?

I haven't had any problems, and this is the first I've heard of anyone having this issue. What browser are you using? Are cookies enabled?

The only time I've had something like that happen is when I've been on a page long enough to have timed out.

Is there a place to change the idle setting? I think the same thing happens to me as it does brintster130.. I'll open like a half-dozen windows as once and then when I eventually get back here, its timed out.. No big deal to me, but maybe there is a setting to help ILLYRIAN

That's happened to me too a couple of times. But it stops when I tick the 'remember me' box when I log in.

Please try these two things:

Every time I try to post, it asks me to login / I can't change my avatar.
When I change my style in Edit Options, it doesn't change

and see if that fixes it. You probably have a corrupt cookie.

Once I clicked in 'Remember Me' at the login screen, it has yet to log me out 🙂

There's no need to get snippy about it - we're trying to help you and all we can do is offer suggestions for you to try.

Make sure you do logout, clear cookies, close ALL browser windows and then try logging in again, ticking remember me.

What kind of browser do you use? Maybe check and see that whatever you're using is set to accept cookies.

I'm not sure what browser I use, the technicians who service my computer are told to install the latest Internet Explorer, so when a new one comes out I get it. Cookies are always enabled.

There are no viruses on my computer, it is checked monthly. On my last computer a trojan type virus came from Wikipedia, so this one gets checked automatically.

I would suggest downloading Firefox. It sounds like an issue with the version of Internet Explorer that you're using. :\

It really sounds like a cookie problem to me, especially if you weren't having the problem before. I don't know what to tell you if clearing the cookies isn't working...

It does sound a simple fix, as you say, like a cookie problem. But I've had the cookies changed several times and I'm still getting the same thing. But as I said, it is a problem and I do get fed up with it but it isn't that big a problem.
It isn't the first time I've had strange things like that happen. Take my car for instance, it had an intermittent misfire when the engine was under load but when it was in 'park' or neutral it was ok.
Several $000 later a wire in the electronic ignition system was found to be at fault, the plastic coating had failed and the wire occasionally shorted out causing the misfire. That was only discovered when the ignition system was replaced and the old one tested, part by part.

Aw, that stinks...

I'm trying to think of something else for you to try. It *might* right itself when your tech guys update your Internet Explorer. A temporary fix might be another browser like Firefox or Chrome, but I hate to have to install a new program for this.

Maybe also see if your tech guys have installed an ad blocker or something similar? I think that sometimes messes with things. I seem to remember nerd4hire having a problem due to his adblocker.

Hmm, I don't think I'll be putting Firefox or Chrome on this system, I'd be to worried about any software problems that may present themselves, especially with the various film editing and scriptwriting packages I have, and then there's the e-mail carrying concerns. I had enough problems with e-mails when I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7.

I'm due to have my computer serviced again in a few weeks, I'll be sure to ask the technicians if there is an ad blocker.
