How many times have you screamed in your life?

In horror movies, there's almost always a couple of people who scream for some reason. The same goes for murder/mysteries. But why? Is screaming involuntary, like a sneeze? An automatic reaction to intense fear, etc?

Have you ever screamed...? Whether you were terrified, shocked, whatever. After a quick review of my life, I realise that I've never screamed...not for any reason. Honestly, do you think this is mostly a cinematic thing, or does it actually happen in real life?

Im not sure how to answer this, as I certainly scream in the right situation.

(is (sw) still a thing? It is in my world)

Out of fear - the last time I screamed was very recently, a few weeks back. I was in hospital with chest pain and I thought the doctor was going to give me pain drugs "we need to get the pain under control to examine your stomach" no no no. I screamed until I felt safe (they all backed off) and I pulled the leads off and left. My housemate said it was bloodcurdling and I am glad they let me go instead of shuffling me to psych for being scared of them. I'll bet they got a giggle out of me later.

Dashing out before getting 5150'd....that's always fraught with peril. But so liberating!

Do men scream? Even when I accidentally nearly took my left leg off a few inches above the knee I didn't scream it was a manly call for help. In cases of extreme supernatural fear I was quiet.
There have been times when I've heard women scream, usually because I have been dressed up for Halloween and scared the crap out of them. Of course the response might have been planned as I then had to spend the next three days being extra nice to them.

I think it depends on people 😛 one of my pass time is hiding in places and scaring people. My mom is the worst she always screams.

As for me my reaction, I don't scream, I usually go into a defensive pose, and potentially throw a punch. I've almost took my friend's head off a few times this way.

Haha. One of mine is placing BIG, fake spiders where my victim will be...
What is the one thing you never want to hear? When the 'Mad' scientist is showing you around her laboratory, you pray you avoid hearing her say, "Whatever you do, never press this red button, oh, oops.

I haven't screamed since I was a child. I don't think I could if I tried.

When I'm confronted with something seriously dangerous or horrible, it's like somebody else takes control of my brain and I get this weird calm logic and start considering what I need to do to deal with it. Then when it's over I go collapse somewhere. My chief emotion at that point is usually rage. (Things that used to make me sad or scared now mostly tend to make me angry.)

Too many times to count. The last time I screamed was last Wednesday.

I've vivid memories of screaming as loud as I could as a child, just to cause trouble in the street.

I tend to shout more often than scream. I grew up in a bad neighbourhood where they could smell fear. 😉

I scream a lot. There's a guy at work who likes to pinch your knee and that makes me scream. He also likes to chase you around the office, and I scream then. This is all in fun I must add, he's the lovliest weirdo in the world 😀 I've also been known to scream when people jump out at me, or when I find people where they shouldn't be. The other week a bird flew into the hut where I was working and I screamed. What can I say, I'm a screamer 🙂

I didn't even get to do any giving birth screams 🙁

I don't scream often (not in the way I'd like: thanks, kid...), and I can't remember screaming in fear or shock at all in my adult life. I make my other half scream with fright everyday, sometimes more than once, he gets such a scare when I creep up on him or wait in a dark room for him. He expects it but still screams everytime, then gets annoyed that he screamed. It's enjoyable.

The midwives found a way for women to stop screaming in the berthing room. Allow the father to be present; all the screams became.. you rotten bastard this is all your fault! and other colourful type language.
I think I shout more than scream. And it's usually out of surprise.

Like, I was in my garden getting some tomatoes and I heard one of my dogs come up behind me, because of his tags. And I started to say "Hey, Sammy." but only got about half way through before I turned around and the "Sammy" ended in a sort of "Ahhhh! What?" Because he had a groundhog hanging out of his face.

I did squeaky yell, "It's a SNAKE!" once. When my daughter stepped on a baby one. My husband will never let me live it down.

That's pretty much all I can think of.

But I've known other people to scream actually. Like, I found a dead frog at my work and showed it to a coworker. She screamed and ran away. Legit. So, it happens. 🙂

I don't scream, I kind of let out a gasp that sounds like I'm about to have an asthma attack and that only happens when I see one of those big sprinter spiders.

Experts at Buffy-Boards.com have found a guaranteed way to make people scream, tell them Mr. Pole will visit you!

I don't really scream when I get scared, I usually swear under my breath instead 😛

I scream when I get tickled (hint: never tickle me!)

So yeah, a lot!

Halloween is a glorious time to scream, if you are a child who comes begging for my candy near here, then ask the children if they will ever scream.

All the time, always out of irritation and anger. I've wondered lately why none of my neighbors have called the cops, to tell them about the shrill cry of a woman being murdered coming from my apartment...because my computer is TOO F*CKING SLOW! I give one, long, loud, high-pitched scream when my laptop doesn't do what I tell it to, last weekend I did it twice in an hour. Still no cops and these are the thinnest walls in the world. Huh.

Off-topic: why is my throat sore?

😀
