I was curious if anyone had any clues to how much money Giles gave to Buffy to help out with the bills? I would have said $10,000. Anyone else have a good guess?

HOwever much it was it was obviously enough for Buffy to have all her bills paid for a while, as after that moment she never really complained about money

yeah I agree . We could all sit here guessing how much money Giles give Buffy for bills ect. I'm thinking it was enough to live off for awhile.

There is no way to really know how much Giles gave Buffy. I am guessing though that it was enough to get her out of debt and back on her feet for at least until she got the job at the Doublemeat Palace. Money must still have been an issue since she went out and got a job that she really didn't care for. She did state at the end of the Doublemeat Palace episode that she really didn't want fired cause she needed the money and didn't want spend the time looking for another job.

Yeah but at the same time at most you make $7.50 in the fast food industy, especially considering she wasn't any type of manager or anything so I mean even though she got the job, I highly doubt she was paying mortage, lights, gas, electric, buying food, clothing, etc on a $7.50 per hour paycheck

Not to sound rude CharmedSlayer85 but you must still live with mommy and daddy cause you sure don't sound like someone who's lived on his own. If Buffy was making say $7.50 an hour and say maybe she was working full time 40 hours a week. Let's that would be $300.00 a week before taxes are taken out and that also would be $1200 a month before taxes. Okay we can assume there wasn't a mortage on the house cause Buffy couldn't get a loan and unless Joyce took one out on the house before she died there probably wasn't one. Lights and electricity are the same thing. We don't know if the house was total electric or gas and electric, but we will go with gas and electric. We also know she had phone so we can add that. We don't if she had cable or just regular tv. So we can assume her monthly bills included gas, electric, telephone, and possibly cable. That take up the first two paychecks possibly the third as well which would leave the last and fourth paycheck for food and clothing. Really they can get by with the clothing they have sure maybe buy a few items when they have the extra money to splurge. It is possible that if Buffy manages her money just right she can barely make it by on what she makes. We also don't know what if and how much Willow and Tara contribute. I doubt they expect Buffy to pay for everything. I am sure theyb pay for their own clothing and food. I mean after all someone is paying for their college tuition and books if they aren't on a full ride scholarship. We also don't know if Dawn receives money from her dad to help pay her needs. It is possible that she could make it by on what she made if she was working a full time job and was managing her money correctly. People do it all the time here in real world. I have made it by on less than $1200 a month. It just takes a lot of work managing the mighty dollar and learning what you can do without. But it can be done.

Giles slipped her some tongue, but nothing more than that.

There was the season 7 clamydia scandal, but Giles was cleared on account of him only picking it up when he had travelled to England, and he had it cured before he returned to the US of Gay.

My guess would be that Giles gave Buffy enough money to pay off her current bills with maybe a little left over as a cushion against an emergency. Beyond that, Buffy and/or Dawn might have had access to a trust fund from their father, something set up as part of his and Joyce's divorce terms. There's no reason to assume that Giles would stop at only one check, knowing as he did just what the duties of the Slayer involve and how difficult it would be to work full time and still patrol regularly. Also, Willow and Tara were living in Buffy's home. Surely they MUST have shared in the day to day expenses.
.
Even with all of that, it is quite obvious that money was an issue just from the fact that Buffy's wardrobe changed from leather pants to less expensive jeans. When she got grass stains on her wool (or some ind of cloth) coat from rolling in the grass with Spike, she tried to clean it, rather than just tossing it and buying a new one. Also, she was eating at least one meal a day at the Double Meat Palace, where she probably got it free or at least at a discount, and she was feeding Dawn from there on a fairly regular basis, probably from the food not sold by closing time (for those who have never persued a career in the fast food industry, the stuff left over at quitting time is usually given to whichever employees want it).

Another argument for the trust fund thing is that in Srason 7, when Buffy would have just turned twenty one, she was able to quit her fast food job and take a part time job as a councelor at Sunnydale High (and both her and Dawn's wardrobes improved, though still not to the level they were at when Mom was paying all the bills.

All in all, I would have to say that the Summers girls got by with the aid of 1) financial support from Giles, 2)Willow and Tara paying rent, 3)either monthly checks or a trust fund or both from Dad, and 4)whatever wages Buffy managed to bring home from her job.

Who paid for all the food/clothing for potential slayers. That musta been crazy 'spensive!

Also i know that giles gets money from the watchers council from season 1-3. then he's fired. then in Season 5 he gets the money his missed paid back (and then keeps getting paid?). That musta been one huge lump sum!

My question is, does the money that Watchers get, also meant to go towards the slayer? For example, Kendra left her family to live with her watcher, so obviously the watcher was getting money from the council to pay for both himself and his slayer. And since Slayers are spose to be so focused on their job (like Kendra not going to school or whatever) they need money to live? So a slice of what Giles is making should go towards Buffy anyway.

im not sure about that, but my guess would be that there were a few factors. first of all, giles returned to bring the potentials, so he could have also helped them by giving the potentials some money, or giving buffy money to help support them.

second, at some point xander was spending so much time at the house, as well as others like andrew, that if they had any money, they probably chipped it in. until xander got his eye poked out, he was still working construction, which seemed to pay pretty well. i dont think anya had the shop anymore at that point though, and even if she did im not sure shed be willing to share her hard earned money with a bunch of whiny little girls. this is actually making me wonder, when there wasnt immediate danger, why didnt xander and anya just stay at their own places, to avoid bathroom crowding and such?

third, once everyone in sunnydale split, everything was up for grabs, so from that point on they really had anything left that they were willing to go get.

I think maybe Xander and Anya wanted to stay close to the potentials in case of the bringers attacking. And they, themselves being afraid of being attacked. If the first was on the loose, id wanna be close to the strongest slayer, and a powerful witch.

Im guessing there was still a whole bunch of money after Anya robbed the bank in "Him". Also Andrew probably has a bunch of money after the trio made that mmm fashnick guy, rob the bank.

two very good points with the money. although, they might have questioned where anya got the money if she suddenly handed them a huge sack of it when she was out of work. the andrew thing is possible, but then again, a lot of the stuff the trio had got destroyed, or the money couldve been spent on parts for all the trio's expensive equipment. as far as what he had left, how much would he actually have been carrying at the time? they probably wouldnt let him leave the house to go get it.

in terms of xander and anya, really, the first never went after anya; the main attacks on her related to her current or past of being a vengeance demon. and as far as xander, until caleb came along and poked his eye, he wasnt really a target of any kind. there was a witch, a slayer, dawn, and sometimes giles, andrew, spike at the house already, many of whom are stronger than them, so they wouldnt really be needed for protecting the others. thus, it probably wouldve been better, in terms of preventing all that crowding they kept complaining about, if theyd just stayed at their own houses for only the night.

If Giles could give Buffy a check large enough to settle her debts, even if only for a short while, plus make all the trips back and forth from Sunnydale to England, plus later to places all over the world to recover the various Potentials, it stands to reason that he had access to considerable funds, even after the Council was destroyed. From that, I have always felt that he was at least moderately wealthy.

And who knows? Maybe even some from Spike. . .as he's said before time and time again that he can get her money. . .
And you know he wouldve, no matter what. He loved her and the little niblet.

As for who paid for the potentials. . .that still puzzles me. . .

Gotta love the buffyboards, such wild but interesting speculation
