How much has your Buffy/Angel obsession cost you?

Way too much has/is being spent on shipping costs but since it still ends up being cheaper than buying it here in Sweden I guess I should be happy to pay it.

Dvd's I've got away with cheap, $80
Comics (seasons): $380
Other books: $200
Trading cards: Oh, this is a tough one. Maybe $450

Then there's the Firefly/Serenity, Dollhouse, Doctor Horrible and Cabin in the woods stuff to add.

I am SO lucky I didn't get started with the trading cards. I would have to be in a recovery program.
Whedon obsession: <400$
Video Game obsession: <4000$
Horse obsession: >30 000$
Ya...Whedon ain't so bad 😛

Yeah but when you get bored with your Whedon and Video Game obsession you cant make a meal out of it!

too far?

You are a bad man.
Showing my age here but I first bought Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest and Surprise and Innocence on VHS 🙂

I've then bought the full season 1-7 of Buffy on DVD, season 1-5 of Angel. I bought all the books, including Buffy's year book and I got the monthly Buffy magazines.

I also used to phone a Buffy hotline which gave information on upcoming seasons which must have cost my parents loads.

I remember those numbers! I often wondered what kind of person would actually call them... now I know.

On that is so cute! I remember phoning Wrestling hotlines back in the day for up to date information. I just love the sound of that voice on the other end giving me inside scoops😛 Wait did that sound erotic to anyone else?😱

Definitely thousands, I've got a Scythe replica, a mini scythe replica, Angelus's sword, Angel's Tattoo on my back, every episode on VIDEO and DVD, both Buffy games, every comic that's canonical including Fray, tales of the slayer etc, the Buffy magazines with extra DVDS, over 30 academic texts about Buffy, about 40+ non-canonical Buffy Books, the watcher's diaries, a film cell of Buffy, the original Buffy film on DVD, Once more with feeling on DVD, some of the character specific DVDs, figures, I'm going to my first convention this year...

I'm going to stop now because I'm scaring myself with how much I've spent over the years 🙂

I haven't spent too much. I worked at a DVD distribution warehouse and was able to purchase the DVDs for $7 per season. I don't own any collectibles...but am working on getting the comics. I'm going to my first con in March.

I can only guess roughly and that brings a painful feeling to my wallet so I just won´t do it and enjoy the look of my collection. I have it in my office so I can look at it while pretending to work 🙂

It is mainly Comics, Books, Figures (yes I know, more valuable if still sealed but my 18 year old self did not think that far), Trading Cards and the collectible card Game besides the DVD Sets of BtVS and Angel

Looks impressive!
I guess to answer the question properly the cost I have spent has mostly been on the DVD's. I did buy all of the Buffy boxsets. With Angel I lucked out because a friend gave me all bar I think season 2 from his collection so think it was just actually that season I paid for. So far I have one Angel comic, and one Buffy novel (which was a gift). But would like to buy more, and have read Why Buffy Matters? which I think is an excellent book. I also have the Buffy Board game, Vol. 2 of The Watcher's Guide and the Sunnydale High Year Book.

Truth is although Buffy is one of my favourite shows I've never really been into one thing so much that pretty much everything I buy is related to that one thing, or maybe not since I was a big Wrestling fan as a kid/teenanger. Money is also a limit at this point. Anyway my main enjoyment out of both shows is just watching and discussing them which I can do for hours!😛 But yeah would like to buy more in the future.

I have all the dvd's and have had them for ages so can't even think how much they cost originally. But a few years ago I discovered the comics and I went crazy, must have spent a fortune. I bought virtually every Buffy comic ever written 🙂 Then when bankruptcy was calling, I sold most of them on Ebay 🙁

AtS Collector's Set - $44.00
BtVS (XBOX) - $50.00
BtVS: Chaos Bleeds (XBOX) - $50.00
BtVS The Game [Board Game] - Free

All brand new except for the board game. I've got my obsession all under control.

I decided not to buy the comics because I know I'd only read them once. Also, I never got to play Chaos Bleeds. I was away from home and was loading the car and left a bag on the top of the car to help out a family member. I forgot to get the bag off the car and I guess it fell off while we were riding. We went back for it but didn't see it. Obviously someone found the bag on the ground and kept it for themselves. The seller I purchased AtS Collector's Set from also sold BtVS: the Chosen Collection brand new for $55 but I was too late. 🙁

I'm pretty fortunate enough that I was still pretty young when the show was airing (it started when I was 7 and ended when I was 14) so whilst I was a fan from the very beginning, all of the boxsets and merchandise were gifted to me by my parents. They bought me nearly all of the VHS boxsets and then eventually for one Xmas they bought me the BtVS DVD S1-S7 boxset so I could replace the tapes. They also bought me both BtVS XBOX games. The only merchandise I've really ever had to buy myself have been the comics. I went on a spending spree and bought a whole bunch of random Darkhorse & IDW comics and then once S8 and AtF came out I started buying them. At first I was buying individual issues as they came out up until the Wolves at the Gate arc and then once a friend was giving them to me online, I waited until and bought the TPBs instead. I stopped purchasing the comics completely after S8 though as S9 really killed my enthusiasm for them.

I don't really have much other merchandise. My parents bought me a BtVS Easter Egg one year that had a mug with SMG's picture on it and I did used to have a SMG/Buffy posted up in my room when I was in high school. Other than that I didn't really ever buy any toys or action figures as I'm not really a fan of them.

I worked it out to just over £100, which isn't as much as some, but I buy a lot on the cheap, from eBay and secondhand.

All my dvds were brand new, wrapped, but on sale in the Fox outlet and much cheaper than buying the boxsets. The only other brand new thing I've bought was my t-shirt. Everything else was found on eBay for cheap cheap.

Buffy has been a cheaper than many other things and worth every cent.

I had it before I found this forum - or even anything related to the internet. That is possibly a good thing 😉

I still have my original DVDs all in working order - although all collected over time so not matching (season 3 is a single set instead of two and season 5 is a boxset which I love). I was hoping to replace them with the chosen collection boxset when they died but I havent needed to replace them. I dont think it is being made any more. I guess when its time to upgrade it'll be on something fancier. Probably around $500 on them.

I think I spent more on Angel renting it from the dvd shop than actually buying the boxset (as soon as I could get my hands on it). Its a cute little set and I love the booklet but it fell apart and I looked after it well. I think it was around $200

I found the magazines late in the series. Only catching around a dozen of the last volumes. I have ripped out all the posters and they are far from mint condition. Maybe $200 on them.

The books I am not sure on. I had a huge collection, but I have recently moved, and I have either lost a suitcase or someone threw it out (or it is in the depths of the garage which I really hope it is but thats a long way from being found). I can only find less than half of my books now. I got many of them from book exhanges. It really was the only place I could get them. So I would go through my books, pick up books from swap meets and switch them at the exchange. I've pulled out Wisdom of war and the price on that is $7.70, while credit on exchange is $2. I really wouldnt know how much I have spent. Some of the Angel books were new from red dot type shops, but they would have a heap of the same title rather than a variety, so they took a long time to collect. I would read out in the paddock a lot so most of my books are worn. I dont remember many of the stories now,a few stand out. I remember being pissed off when a few turned out non-canon, but I do like the stories in that world.

Conventions are limited where I live. They have some chaotic comic con types that are evolving every year. I get to Supanova every year, and a few buffy stars have passed through. That is only about $30 enrty, I would keep going even with no Buffy stars, but absolutely kicking myself I was too lame to get pictures with Nathan Fillion last year.

I have probably spent more on Supernatural (and related - ie gishwhes) as there is more to spend on it!

Worth it.
