How Privileged Are You

I think this quiz is rather banal. It plays to dumb conventional definitions of privilege too. I can think of many ways a person can be privileged or lack it that don't fall along the lines this quiz exclusively tries to 'test'. I could say more but it would be a complete waste of my time.

I am quite privileged.

Funny, I never thought myself as such. Moving around a lot as a kid, having an Northern Irish Catholic Mum and a Protestant English Dad in the Army, being called Paddy, traitor, terrorist, mocked for my accent/lack of same.
But I guess I'm straight and white and that's all that matters. 😕

I'm sure the creator of the quiz was American. Their attention is so focused on white male privilege that it never occurs other forms of discrimination occur more commonly elsewhere.
To be clear, I'm not all 'woe is me.' about anything. Or even a little bit bitter. I had loving parents, a great brother, a unique upbringing and other 'privileges' that don't seem to fit into any neat boxes of this quiz.

I guess I was initially irked by the bland 'you are quite privileged' label. This quiz doesn't know anything about my situation and I really shouldn't take that personally. It's just a quiz. 🙂
 
Me too. I score high on privilege apparently as well, but I've had a very hard life not quantifiable in terms of this test. Privileged, hmm...try telling me that 7 years ago when I was constantly being hospitalized for mental illness and paranoid Schizophrenia (I didn't have the privilege of a healthy mind unforntunately, severe Schizophrenia runs on my father's side) and I lost everything I had and was living homeless from my car while out in Chicago, etc. I'm doing much better now and I have my shit together, and I'm also not woe is me, but that's just one single example not quantified on a test like this. I may be white and straight and male, but while minorities in my country undeniably suffer from a myriad of institutionalized social prejudices and such, many of them have had more privileges than I ever had and have lived much easier lives as a result. Once again, I'm also not complaining (I don't like to do that at all) but it's worth saying.

Our children are the solution to achieving world peace.
Our grandchildren are, for some reason....quite blond. It's very odd.

Jeez some of them questions were dumb but I loved the statement, 'I studied abroad' that was right on both accounts.
Being born in another country and going to school in that country, yes I studied abroad. Also at evening college because one of my teachers was a cute young woman, yes I studied a broad.

I'd be interested to know who you thought made the list.
 
A-ha one of the wannabe's falls into my cleverly thought out trap, the term may not be used by folk you know but it is used by me. What isn't used is the term Dude. If I want to call a woman a broad I can, if she lives overseas does she become a broad abroad?
 
What sort of school did you go to where the alphabet goes down upward. At the school I went to the alphabet went down, which means the one over C's is a right B. It must be 'right' as I am more priveledged than you even though the school I went to was private, private in as much that the priveledged few were not allowed to go there. Judging by the truancy numbers not many others wanted to go there either, but that is another story.

I've been abroad was a tough one - decide it did not include going to Mexico to buy inexpensive medication.
