How the Knights of Byzantium found them in the Winnebago?

I know it's always been a source of contention amongst a lot of fans as to how the Knights of Byzantium found Buffy and co whilst they were doing their mad dash int eh Winnebago. I've read that there was a part of the original script that was left out, which would have involved an explanation along the lines of 'the clerics could locate Dawn'.

Although this would have answered the original question, for me it leads to more questions.

Firstly, why did the Knights of Byzantium not utilise this power of their clerics earlier on in the season, of course it could be that they could only locate her within a general region, and considering she was in the middle of a desert with one highway then it seems plausible they could have figured out her location.

Secondly, if they have always had this ability, then how was the key not discovered/destroyed ages ago, before the monks got it etc.

Thirdly, why didn't Glory directly seek out the Knights and force their clerics to locate the key for her, she obviously knew of their existence, and was fairly familiar with them considering the way she greets their leader in Spiral.

Do you think that it might be that due to these additional questions then they removed this explanation and left it open to interpretation/an annoyingly ambiguous plot device.

I've always considered the knights locating Buffy and Dawn to be just one of those things that the writers didn't deem important enough to deal with, so they just left it largely open to imagination. The plot needed it to happen, they didn't or couldn't figure out a cool way for it to happen, so it just happened.

Your probably right, but I do hate these kind of loop holes.

If I remember correctly we saw of the knights of B. attacking Buffy. Buffy was the protector of the key (Dawn) so the Knights were in the right place.
The Knights were Gods army (or so I thought) so God would/ could have guided them to the crappy trailer home that nearly had a motor.
Spike should have nicked the Porsche and towed the motor home, it would have been faster.

Something else to consider is, how did a bunch of horse cavalry manage to catch up with the motor home? No matter how slow the m h was, it could maintain that speed indefinitely, whereas even the finest horse can maintain top speed for at best a few miles. The onloy possibility is that they knew where Buffy and the gang were going and somehow got there first and set up an ambush. But again, how did they know, and how did they get there first? For that matter, how did they get anywhere? Yes, they could have hauled their horses around in trucks until they got to the battle scene, but, if they had trucks, why even bother with horses? A couple of trucks could have easily ran the motor home off the road without any loss of life or injuries'

The whole Knights of Byzantium element in Glory's arc is dramatic and colorful, and provides some great Slayer kick ass action, but there's nothing practical or believable about it.

I'd agree with you white avenger, as a figment of the show they were poorly thought out.
But they gave me so much for fanfiction, plus there was the slim possibility that the Knights of Byzantium were based on a factual element in the army of the Byzantine Empire.
