I've heard that if you have a hard spot somewhere, where it doesn't belong, you have cancer, but is this really accurate, how hard must it be ... in short, how do you know if you have it?
Well, not all hard spots that you find are cancer, my grandmother found several hard spots/lumps but none have ever been cancer. I'd say if you do actually find a hard spot and you're really worried about it, you should ask your local doctor.
Yes, it's better to get checked out right away - either it will be nothing, or you will put yourself in the position where it's easiest to treat.

I'm not sure, but I know that for both sexes there's a way you can give yourself a self-examination each month.
For women, its to feel for lumps around the breasts, and for guys its to feel around the testicles.
But the best thing to do is always get a second opinion in anything, especially from a doctor.

A bus which was touring the county came to our school once to explain a bit about cancer. They gave us a prothesis of a breast and of some testicles to feel. They had ball bearings in them. Apparently this is what the lumps feel like. Self examination is good to check for lumps but the lady also said to check our partners bodies as you tend to notice something out of the ordinary easier on someone else and vice versa.
Lumps don't mean cancer. Even if you feel lumps, it might mean fatty tumors which have absolutely no negative impact at all on your health.
In fact, I'm getting 3 removed in a few weeks. While they aren't health-threatening, they aren't exactly fun to have and are growing, and I definitely don't have cancer!
You can have self-exams for skin, testicular, and breast cancer, as well as getting examined as often as insurance will allow (for me, it's a mammogram every year since there is family history - which is only relevant to 20% of all cases, but I'll take it!).

Get 'em checked right away. I waited for a long time with mine because I was scared and it could have been a whole lot worse because of it!
