How Was Your Day?

I'm a happy chappy right now,
I had been working on how to join three fan-fics I had written back in 2009,
today I finally discovered how I could do it. Then I thought I hope I don't change my mind so I've uploaded part 1 of it a few minutes ago..

Relaxing as always, but more so today; I got my very first cross stitch kit in the mail! And I did one little bitty square! So excited to start a new craft (as always, following in the big sister's footsteps - she does crochet, then I do, she does diamond painting, then I do, now this lol)

Been a nice weekend. I have so much more energy in the cold weather, and it has been cold!

Drove to another town to get chinese food yesterday. I slowed down because I saw a chicken pecking on the side of the road and I didnt want to hit it. Lucky I did slow down because there was a bloody big emu pecking around behind it! Neither raised their head to cross the road and stayed safe and fed. Survivor final was last night so I enjoyed watching that with my feast. My kind of fun on an icy night!

Today was a bit slower. Rain hung around all day and there is ankle deep flooding in my yard and most of town. I went out to feed the horses this morning, and they are not silly, 4 out of the 6 were in their shelters. Heaps of baby bunnies running around out there now. Surprised they haven't drowned. Had a cup of hot broth with my neighbour, he was devo that his footy team lost on the weekend.

Came home and dressed the dogs up in waterproof jackets and took them for a short walk. I dont think they enjoyed it, the short one almost had to swim home haha. They have been pretty good about having a boring indoor day. I gave them both a peanut butter jar to lick clean, and then played a new game with the poodle this arvo. I showed her different fruit and then asked her "touch" the fruit of my choice. She had to think, but it entertained her and she got it right most of the time! Tried that game with the other dog too, major fail, she forgot what "touch" meant and tried to eat the fruit. I will play that game again with the poodle, she likes to use her brain.

Its so nice and cosy in my house with the heaters on. I noticed when I was at my neighbours, his place was freezing even with the heater on! He didnt want to start the fire cos he is almost out of wood. I still have a ute load of wood here for him but its been too wet to load up, plus its too green for him to use this year anyway. But boy, am I glad to have that big air con, huge difference to quality of life.

My day began 13 hours ago, since I couldn't sleep. 😋 I won't be doing much of anything today because I'm tired. Yesterday morning I was doing errands (using the bus) and it was SO hot. Sitting on a bus stop for nearly half an hour in the sun was absolute torture.

I like it at home. Its cool and comfortable.

Happy 17th birthday Toby! You can see the cataracts that made him blind since he was 8 years old, but he still walks every day.

Set fire to the last of my garden bonfires fires today. It caught fine, but took forever to burn. Not a surprise considering the rain we've had, but it was annoying that it was so slow Now Im buggered from watching it. I didnt have to feed it, it just needed to burn. Standing still with the rake seems more tiring than dragging branches was a few weeks ago.

I dont really want to go to golf tomorrow, its going to be a swamp filled with snakes and mozzies. But I wont cancel either cos I didnt go on saturday and it probably wont be raining, just flooded.

All the pets are so cute now that I have come in and turned the heater on, they're all blissed out in nap mode while I try to find something to watch.

I did go to golf, and it was like playing in a swamp. So waterlogged! It was soooo hard to play. I hit over 80 for 9 holes which is my worst ever. I just about had to swim my balls down the fairway, tiny hit after tiny hit. The other guys hit 50 something. But then I heard how the boys who turned up on Saturday went, and they did almost as bad, one guy lost 5 balls, 2 on the same hole, once they hit the water, you've lost them under it. Im glad at least I didnt lose any today.

Had a horrible arvo with my leg. I just dont know what to do about it. Took the dogs walkies anyway. Spent a lot of time whinging to my mum. Im not sure if I will log into the meeting tonight or not yet. Gona go for a drive tomorrow to get out of town and see if it helps reset my pain tolerance a bit.

Getting back to Toby's birthday, we decided to celebrate as only a dog would appreciate:

Our local California Sandwiches shop has this nice breaded veal cutlet on a bun and as you can see, this is a 6 inch diameter bun and the meat overhangs it on both sides. It was $14.99 for the basic veal on a bun plus $2 each for mushrooms and sweet red peppers and tax brought it to $21.46. Compared to a normal burger, you get food for a man and his dog for two meals, so this is actually a bargain.

He got a quarter of it and I got a quarter of it the first day then after this picture was taken, he got a sixth of it and I got a third of it the next day (because it wasn't his birthday anymore). The next time, I wouldn't bother with the red peppers because dogs can't eat them without throwing up. I carefully removed all the red peppers from his servings and ate them myself.

Honestly quite crap.

My dog, he’s old, about 10-11 had to go to the vet this week. Turns out he is in early kidney failure. They’re going to send him home tomorrow with a new diet but there’s no real getting around it.

I made a deal with my brother that if he will work on packing up his stuff in Dad's condo, I will arrange for movers. I've never used them before, and I'm finding that I was really naive on how difficult the process is, and whether I can even arrange it as a third party. Just when I've climbed a hill as executor, another mountain arises. And I had arranged a get-away trip for next week, which is starting to look really ill-timed.

Be sure you know about all the bank accounts he had - you don't want to leave money that is rightfully yours languishing in some bank because you didn't know it was there. Also, be sure to notify any credit card companies or banks holding a line of credit that he is dead and they may stop the continuing accrual of interest. One thing that surprised me when I handled my wife's estate was that the funeral home is responsible for issuing death certificates and they supply them on demand - just ask for a stack of them. If you state that you are the executor and give the moving company a death certificate, they at least have a piece of paper showing that you, as the executor, have the right to contract their services.

Go ahead and take the vacation. It's not a good time to sell a condo anyway.

I grappled with a life insurance company that Dad held policies with again today. They are just exhausting and obstructive as they can be. I spent an hour on the phone with one person, who was actually being helpful for a change, only to have the call dropped. When I called back, I was told I couldn't be connected with that person. I admit I shouted. And was hung up on. So I called back and had to spend another 30 minutes with someone else reconstructing what had been done. Then I was told that a third policy had my brother listed as owner, not my father, even though Dad paid the bills, which were sent to his home. They clearly want me to give up, and I really want to, but it's leaving potentially a lot of money on the table.

There is no time limit, but my brother cannot afford the exorbitant assessment fees for the condo. I can't pay them on top of my own rent, so we have to sell the place, good time or not, and sooner rather than later, because those fees are accruing. Death certificates and bank accounts I fortunately have a handle on. Thanks for the continued advice!

One more thing you should check is the presence of any stock certificates, bonds or other financial instruments that he may have left behind. I never knew how my father made his living after he retired at age 50. We thought he was going to die penniless when he died at age 67. One of my uncles said, "Check the safety deposit box at his bank at Stonegate Plaza, you'll get a nice surprize." I got the box out and opened it and sproing! The lid flew up under the pressure of 36 stock certificates from 20 different companies. We paid his lawyer about $8000 to settle the estate, but probate was closed in two months and the lawyer had to work for his money. He had to check the price of the stock at the time it was issued and the price the day he died to calculate the capital gains and "penniless" father left an estate of $688,212. It turns out, as well as day trading in the stock market, he was making his money by taking back private mortgages, so when the dust cleared, I had five mortgages paying me!

There may be an insurance bureau that can handle the complaint you have against the insurance company. If not, threaten to sue them and make them the stars of social media.

Speaking of doggos. I've asked my local vet about my poodles swollen toe 4 times. I said the toe is sore and swollen. They told me it wasnt, and the swelling was her knuckle, not swelling. They sold me creams and shampoos and told me to discourage her from chewing it. I decided to get a second opinion in the city. New vet says the toe is broken, and so swollen she couldn't even feel if the ligaments were snapped too. The medication she gave us took the swelling down a lot and she is booked in for xrays next week if it is still bothering her after rest. No walkies allowed. Im so annoyed with the usual vet, she always treats me like Im stupid and the poor poodle had to suffer through it. I'm starting to get as distrustful towards vets as I am towards doctors now too! I wish I didnt live so far from other options.

Defo not going to golf today, too flooded!
