How Was Your Day?

Not good today. Almost out of pain killers and my next grocery order isnt til Saturday night. Mum is coming to visit next week so I have been trying to get the garden looking good, but movement is making this migraine so painful. If I can get 8 solid hours of good work in, that should be enough to get it done. But Im not sure if I rest now and work on Sunday, or work now and rest til then. The meeting last night literally had the verse from Ecclesiastes 4:6  Better is a handful of rest than two handfuls of hard work and chasing after the wind. And I know it means striving for wealth but it kinda applies because Im striving for approval 😂 Mum is moving from a 4 hour drive to a 4 day drive away and I dont want her to worry that Im not coping with the house and garden. Shes given me so much already, I dont want her to go hiring a gardener!

Dogs havnet got walkies again today because I know the sunlight will kill me dead too. We were out for about 3 hours in the garden this morning but its not a walk. They are going to hassle me all day so I hope I can get out at some stage with them. I went to the cafe to get takeaway cos I knew I wouldnt eat at all if I didnt go. They had choc milk 😀 but choc milk and chicken burger cost $27 and I am so sad I wasted so much money on being too sick to cook. Hopefully it helps move the migraine along though, local cafe food always go straight through me haha. Dogs on que, hassling me now sitting as close as they can to me staring at me. Poor things, they like their walkies routine.

Continuing on about cars, I did a brake job on the Impreza after finding it was the left brake, not the right, that was scraping. This was the easiest brake job I had done since I drove a Triumph Spitfire 50 years ago. I checked the brake on the right and the previous technician had run out of time so he did not lubricate the brake sliders. The brakes are not seized on that side, but they require a lot of force to operate. I managed to do the job in two hours (for just the right rear wheel), several hours faster than I ever did with any subsequent car. I can't believe how quiet the car is now - no chorus of cast iron demons screeching anymore.

I dare you to change your avatar 😋
I finally finished the tasks I needed to get done at my brother's place before the professional packers come. I wish they could have seen "before," because the place is still packed full of stuff, and the kitchen still dirty. But it is so much better than it was! And I am exhausted. I will be so glad to see the end of this move.

@Anyanka Bunny Slayer

I have always had Clem in his scene where he is getting out of Sunnydale as my avatar. Clem is my man! The actor who plays him is an engineer like me. I prefer dogs to cats although I don't go as far as to eat kittens. He has a playful side as when he scared the Potentials and he is sociable, the opposite of what Buffy told the potentials to expect when they invaded the demon bar. He has a practical side as when he took over Spike's crypt after Spike left.

This is my avatar until I die.

If I won the lottery and offered you $10,000 to do it, would you still be so resolute? 😋

Of course I would. But I'm counting on the fact that you don't know who I am or how to get in touch with me, so I don't expect you to make an offer anytime soon.

Like the song says, blowin' in the wind. That's a reference to $10,000 of paper money blowin' in the (cyclonic) wind - tee hee.
More cleaning and gardening today. I always forget how nice the patio looks when I use the blower on it. I guess seeing it every day I dont realise how dull it gets until I dust it off again! I probably should have done that before I washed my hair.

Took the dogs walkies in the afternoon and town was empty! Always feels a bit eerie when I am the only person in sight. I started getting creeped out that there were big dogs loose out and I had both dogs with me and no one to help if another dog did come for us. We were all fine, but it is freaky when town is this dead quiet, not even a car through!

Heaps of bobtail lizards in the yard today, they all seem to go on the move about 2pm. Two passed each other crossing the driveway, super cute. I might need to put a bobtail crossing sign there 😀

And the reason why the town was empty. The Lost Boys had a big party the night before . . .
At Miss Bachata last night, our instructors came in costume, dressed as Middle Kingdom Egyptians:

On the left is Rasha Elkhitab, one of the best dancers I have ever danced with and on the right is Roberto Quaresma, two time world champion amateur salsa dancer. Rasha has a light touch - dancing with a lot of other women feels like steering a dump truck and you have to muscle them around. In comparison, Rasha moves almost by telepathy. You wish her in a direction and she is already there. Roberto has a very solid teaching style where you concentrate on timing and specific movements and you learn a lot there.

A lot of feminists have the wrong idea about Latin dance - the men always lead but the women get to evaluate them on their technique, so the direction goes from man to woman but the evaluation goes from woman to man..

There is one bit of etiquette in Latin dance that feminism might appreciate: if a man asks a woman to dance and she says no, he is obligated to move on but if a woman asks a man to dance, he is obligated to dance. I got asked to dance by Serena, Olga and Jessica last night, a record high for me. And of course, I danced with them. It was a good night.

And I was going to ask which one are you, where as in fact that's you in the photo bottom to your left. Was you wearing a wig?

I took a ballroom-dance class once, and learned that it is really hard to be led! I was not good at figuring out where the man wanted to go.

I am bored to tears today. The packers have come to my brother's condo. They are incredible, like locusts. I have to be here, but so far they've had no questions. I'm sitting on a folding chair in the room they haven't started on yet, just fiddling on my phone.

My lady neighbour died. She was pretty active until a few weeks before her death, so it was a blessing she went down hill so quick and didnt suffer for months on end, despite being given 6 months to live about 5 months ago. There has been a procession of cars going past her place. Her sister wont be far behind. And then I guess they will put that house up for sale too. I really really hope its not another bitter old man who buys it for cash. We have enough for them in town already.

Mums visit went well, well for me anyway. I got freebies from their food pantry 😀 There were some stressful problems for them which wasnt a nice way to start a drive across the country. But I tried to be a bright spark for them while they were here. I will miss their dog 🙁 I cant fly to visit them so I will never see him again. My dogs started to get annoyed by men in their house towards the end, but I cant blame them hahaha.

Today has been very slow and quiet. I took the dogs walkies early, did my meeting on zoom and am now laying on the couch between tidying. I duno what the plans are for this week. I will have to go shopping at some point since I didnt go today.

I've been extraordinarily tired since I woke up. At the moment, I'm propped up by LOTS of pillows and feel very, very comfortable. Three pillows under each arm, three behind my back, one on my lap. I didn't go anywhere today. Solitude is the best thing in the world.

My day became brighter after I did the shopping, I watched some DVD's, The Vampire's Assistant then Fright Night seeing the mum Toni Collette, Colin Farrell as a vampire and (ex Dr. Who) David Tennant as the vampire Slayer was good. Think I'll watch Cry Wolf next with Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) as a normal guy will be a good way to start the evening of.

I've FINALLY found the headphones I wanted. It took forever, since I only wanted the Phillips Bass+ wired headphones. I'm a creature of habit, and I know what I like. Just ordered them, they'll be here Wednesday. This will be my third pair, so obviously I love them.

Sure, I could've chose another brand, or bought this one on eBay...but I didn't WANT another brand, and I don't trust eBay. I looked on there and some people were selling used headphones, claiming they were new. I could tell from the photos. 🙄

I paid $9.99 plus $20 for priority shipping on a site I discovered. Which is fine with me, since nearly every other place offered SLOW delivery. (7-14 days) I'm extremely impatient and firmly believe in immediate gratification. 🎧

@ILLYRIAN Where did you take the ballroom dance class?

In college, where it was actually earned you a physical-education credit. I can't remember any of the dances anymore, though.

Waiting for the Melbourne cup to run. Decided against going to the luncheon this year. Plus I didnt get back from walkies til 11.15 and it started at 11, so I didnt want to be unfashionably late.

Now just trying to stay away from all the dingbats online who decide to hate horseracing one day a year and rally against it for the day, despite never having been near a racehorse in their lives and forgetting about it by tomorrow. I'm hoping more people see the truth of their aim, once they ban horse riding - they'll ban therapy animals and pets next.

There have already been mutterings about having pets being wrong. Of course, no-one seems to consider what happens to all the animals if you ban owning them.
Very tired and body not happy with me! But, Amazon is about to deliver Christmas (4 stops away!) and Christmas food deliveries have been booked and a little bit of housework done, now doing dinner. However I am looking forward to hopefully some sleep later on!

Y'know, I was minding my business on another site, discussing the SNAP situation with a few other people. Nothing negative or inflammatory was said about the people on SNAP. We were just talking about how crazy the entire situation is.

Remember that mod I reported to the executive director? The one who's feelings got hurt by one of my posts? Well, he decided to join the conversation. I ignored him...until he made the huge mistake of quoting me. Stay tuned for future posts, because he'll DEFINITELY have something more to say. I feel my inner Illyria stirring! 😅😅

I had to take another check 40 miles away to pay for my brother's move. As I was starting back, my car started smoking and the temperature gauge shot to the top. There was a rest area in a couple miles, so I was able to pull over there and call for a tow. I had to wait a couple hours, so I was lucky to be somewhere with bathrooms, vending machines, and an area to walk around in. But I never leave my own city, and so of course, the car breaks down the one time I do. I have AAA, but had to pay extra to have it towed back to my own shop. Now I'm really hoping it's not something expensive to fix, because I'm already way out of pocket for the move and other executor stuff. And I just don't have the emotional energy to go car shopping on top of everything else.
