How/Why did angel come back?

ive watched the episode where angel comes back loads of times but its never explained how he come back, does anyone know?
 
Something to do with that ring being placed where (roughly) he died perhaps?

Maybe it was an excuse to show David's butt to thousands of screaming girls.

yeah i know, not to sound daft or anythin but it was big, could have caused a full moon
 
Think it's got something to do with the place where He was killed as well...

The Powers that be obviously wanted him back because they had bigger plans for him than to have him rotting in a hell dimension forever!
 
If you watch "Amends" I think that it is explained there, that the First brought him back to kill Buffy. That's why he is back, because the First wanted him.

That is what I always thought. I also thought it had something to do with the spell Will cast in Becoming Pt 2, too. I mean, Angel's soul is restored just in time for him to be sent to Hell? I thought surely there must be a reason for this. That reason being that Angel (not Angelus) suffered Hell. I don't think anyone (The First or PTB) would have brought back Angelus. Mainly because I don't think the PTB would want another crazed vamp on the loose and The First would have had more fun with Angel instead of Angelus.
 
I also thought that it was partially due to Buffy's love for Angel because of how he came back just after Buffy left the ring he gave her there. You know, along the lines of a connection because they both had a ring. This thought isn't really based in fact, but (until the thing with the first) this is the way I rationalized it.

That's a good point too. I never thought about that, considering Jasmine set up everything else.
 
Wasn't it later explained that the First wasn't the one who brought him back, and that it was the Powers that Be?
 
I've actually wondered this myself... Do you sapposed that if Buffy had kept the ring, Angel wouldn't have been able to come back? Like maybe the ring was his doorway back?
 
It was when Buffy relinquished him, when she faced her pain instead of ignoring it, that Angel was able to return.

I was one of the few who never, not for a freakin' second, beleived that The First brought him back. It was the PTB, all the way. I think it had something to do with the inner peace Buffy felt after letting him go, that they were able to give him back. I haven't really thought too hard on the subject.
 
i've just been talkin too one my mates and they said Joss said that he didnt think there would be a season three, so he didnt think it mattered if angel cam back or not so they killed him off but then when they actually started season 3 they wantd him back so they just brought him back and because they couldn't really think of a viable way to bring him back they just rought him back, explained it a little and left the rest upto our imaginations
 
I watched this episode today. I think it has something to do w/ the ring. But also whenever Buffy and Giles are speaking he tells how about how you would have to a very strong person and deal w/ that kind of torment and pain and be able to surive it and come back. I think it was a way to show how strong Angel was and how determined he was to return to Sunnydale.
