How Would The Slayer Line Be Passed On Now, With All The New Slayers?

Something in another thread made me think of this...

Now that things have changed, and it is no more "ONE girl in all the world yadda yadda" how is the slayer line passed on? or is it?

Is it now that if any of the slayers passes, another is called, resulting in there always being a large amount of slayers?

Or, since ALL the potentials were given powers, basically if they all die no more are called?... which seems weird because would that mean that never again would a potential be born?

I'm just trying to figure out how and through who does the slayer line now pass...

What are your thoughts?
 
I had thought about this believe it or not, once the series finale had finished airing. This clearly proves I have too many thoughts.

But if every Potential is made a Slayer then that means presently no more Potentials exist, perhaps until another Potential is born which could be a day, a month, or years. But when that Potential is born is she born a Slayer or are we back to the potential until Chosen thing?

If that were true then it would mean that there would always be a large amount of Slayers because anytime one of the large amount of Slayers died one of the large amounts of new Potentials would take her place...so that theory makes more sense I guess....
 
Somewhere I read or heard, I don't remember which, or even if it was supposed to be canon, but it would make sense, that a girl doesn't actually become a Potential until puberty, and loses her Potential status around twenty. That would take care of the problem of infant Slayers. The problem of who the next Slayer to be Called might be might be a little more complicated. If we accept that the Slayer line now goes through Faith, as Joss has said, then at her death, the next Potential in line will be Called. If we make a distinction between the Slayers ACTIVATED by Willow's scythe spell and a Slayer Called by the natural line of succession, then the next eligible Potential to develop after the activation will be the next Called Slayer. If there is, however, no difference between the Called Slayers and the Activated Slayers, then the Slayer line may have ran up against a figurative brick wall, halted and taking generations to rebuild, as in the "Fray" series. Supposedly this is supposed to be resolved in the Issue 16 to 19 arc that Joss is writing.

Hmm... good question. I guess my theory is that the new slayers just die and no one is called. However I think that if Faith died a new true Slayer would be called. However after she was called, no one would no who it was really because there is so many of them... (Unless they're just a LITTLE better than the average Potential)
 
this is the way I have always thought it would go from Chosen-Fray:

1) All the slayers are activated
2) Faith is seen as the "active" slayer
3) When she dies, the "activation" goes to one of the new slayers and so on and so on.
4) Who holds the activation key? Noone would know and it basically goes all the way up to Fray when all the old slayers are gone and she is the only one left.

But ofcourse if now the question would be, does Fray or her brother hold the activation?
 
I've never read Fray before, but how could her brother hold it? Isn't being a Slayer a "girl thing"...
 
I always thought that this activation of Potentials just replaced Potential with Slayer, so that if "normally" a girl would become a Potential at onset of puberty, she would after "Chosen" automatically become a Slayer... thus, from then on forever having a small army of Slayers active at all times, and the line practically an obsolete concept that ENDED with Faith.

If this is total nonsense please correct me... S7 is one of those I don't (yet) have on tape, I don't know the comics at all, and something could also have gotten lost in translation - but that's how I figured it.
 
I dont think every girl who is a potential became a Slayer if they werent already a potential during Willows spell. It just worked on the ones that were out there, I dont see it having a continuous effect on girls.
 
Like I said, it's easily possible my memory is off here... but wasn't there a girl in the montage during the final empowering speech of Buffy who was pre-puberty? I remember a rather young girl playing baseball, seeming in fact too young to be "awakened" as a Potential-turned-Slayer.
 
She looked somewhere between 8 and 10 to me, and girls have been known to start puberty that early. So you never know.
