How do you think Warren, Andrew and Jonathan would have fared if they went up against and Angel and his team? Is there any point in the show you think the Trio could have been a threat to the Angel Investigations gang?

I think the Trio could have raised havoc with AI almost at will with no repercussions.

They proved they could make robots like the Warrenbot that would have kept AI on spin cycle as long as they wanted if they were discovered. In "Life Serial", they demonstrate some serious mojo as magicians and in "Villains", Warren does have some magic in use that would destroy anyone but a fully trained witch who could rise from the ground with an axe in her back. AI had no one on the team that could even keep up with that sort of attack. Angel never really showed any ability to diagnose an attack like that. Cordelia, even with visions, would be no match for that because they were not people in trouble - they were the people causing the trouble. Wesley may have been a researcher-turned-badass, but he would have no clue how to stop them or even identify who was causing the chaos. The only one that would start the process would be Lorne and I don't see the Trio going into Caritas for a beer. The only ones who would be able to stop the Trio would be the Trio themselves, with the infighting, but if that happened away from AI, AI would have no suspicions about a bunch of nerds and no clue as to what was going on.

Oh gods, now my brain is obsessing over how Fred would've dealt with them.

But they could take out Angel easy, at least if they caught him in the wee hours of the morning, with that time warp thing (okay, they WOULD have to get that device on him, but it seems there are multiple ways they could do that) so that he's caught out in the day. Heck, just high powered UV (hmm, would the invisibility caused by their invisibility ray make Angel immune to the rays of the sun?). Surely they can do that. ('Course, I could see them doing something dumb like powering up UV lamps just enough that they have to touch, like a lightsaber, rather than creating a deadly beam, as they're as stupid as they are brilliant that way.)

'Course, the Powers could warn AI, and Lorne and other informants could learn of strange purchases on the black market, or people who had been bragging (who could inform W&H just as easily, speaking of which, AI would probably assume W&H rather than the Trio, unless they had a heads up). If encountering any androids, Angel would probably figure it out pretty fast (I'm sure they smell to him) which could get a search started. He'd probably notice that black van a lot faster than Buffy did, too.

OTOH, there are entire chatty rooms on Angel that the Trio could use, and they might find themselves in competition with a competing group of foolish but brilliant geeks. Or having that professor (or whatever he was) that was sending people to Hell dimensions deciding he wants their tech (but how to get it while getting rid of them?), have them dealing with Gwen Raiden (who may work for or against them, perhaps both, though if she already has a rapport with AI then she might sell the Trio out, no matter how unprofessional), and having the Trio find themselves mixing with hardcore criminals that are unlikely to be found in some place like Sunnydale (despite a death rate you have to respect, heck, human criminals at least probably get targeted more by the monsters in Sunnydale simply by being more available at times and locations where the monsters can get at them more easily).

Had to add the part of where Lorne detected the bugs set up by W&H in the hotel because of his weird hearing. That could easily work against the Trio as well.

Its difficult to say. The timing of them on Buffy was key to them surviving as long as they did. If they had been around during season for example, then I would have found it hard to buy them being a threat for as long as they were. Because the Scobbies are less together as a team come season 6 then its more credible.

Depending on the timing then I think the same with Angel's team. At its functioning best in late season 2 or early season 3 then I think the Trio would have had no chance. But if it was mid-season 3 or sometime in seasons 1 or 4 then I think they could have caused them some issues.

I get that Angel's group are more ruthless and have better defined roles than the Scoobies normally did. But they still have just as many personal issues that provide conflict and which the Trio could pray on.
