How would you react if you found out YOUR sibling was a magical key?

Well, I've got an older sister. If I found out she was a magical key, I'd probably laugh in her face. No wait, scrap that, I think I'd probably try to sell her.

Yes the memories are false but you can still feel them, they feel like family, you love them. How can you turn your back on them.

Like Joyce says shes belongs to us but shes not really mine.

My lil bro is fostered and we have had him for 17 years hes not ours but he does belong to our family.

I wish...

I have a younger brother, annoys the hell out of me. In fact, just yesterday I told him that maybe he's some energy ball and he's not real (he's 16, he'd realize I'm just kidding). Oh, and a while ago he dreamed that I'm a slayer. So that might work out: I'll be a slayer, and he'll be the key!

I can really relate to Buffy, though, as an older sister.

Of course. It's just like finding out someone in your family is adopted. You don't stop loving them just because they are no longer linked to you by blood. They're still your family regardless.

Finding out all my memories were false though would be very hard to grasp but I think I would really consider it irrelevant after my head had gotten around it. As Buffy put it, "It's not just the memories they built, it's physical.... I hold her and I feel closer to her than any....". Family is family regardless of blood or monk intervention. Just as being blood related to someone does not automatically make you family. I don't consider any of my paternal relations family. They are an awful unfeeling group of people and are unfortunately my relatives but they are certainly not my family.

well said!
I think I would be as loving and as protective as Buffy seemed to be, especially if our parents were dead and it was up to me to raise her. Of course, my sister is 21 and has her own apartment and a job, so the reveal would have to have occurred several years ago for the whole "raising her" thing to be relevant. I'd still want to prevent the Goddess of bad home perms from twirling her around in a Hell lock, though. And I might even die to protect her. She's my sister. Plain and simple. It wouldn't matter how she got here. What would matter is just that she did get here and that we *feel* like we grew up together.

When she was a kid, though, I sorta hated her so... I think I would have let Glory get a few cuts in before I saved the day. Or maybe I would have shoved her into the portal instead of taking the swan dive, myself. I know that sounds cruel. And yeah, it kind of is. But what can I say? Sibling rivalry is a bitca. My sister and I had to grow up and move to opposite coasts before we ever started to feel close to one another.

Ah the joys of sibling rivalry....something I never had to deal with. Haha. Except for a cousin Aileen who was like the sister I never wanted, erm, had. ;
I've got four sibblings, there should be some use and purpose to them, so why not being a magical. I'd first try to work out what they open and if it's a treasure, use them for it and if just to something random, I'd sell them. I mean, I've still got a couple of more to got. But no seriously, I'd still like them but I'd probably also rub it into them, that they are not real. Well I tend to be more mean to people, the more I like them. 🙂

there IS no green spongy thing
I would laugh hysterically! then ask them if they were joking, after that who knows? if it meant i got loads of good stuff then great! if they were in any danger i would be mega p****d off! but i'd still be all sisterly to them, after all were all made up of particle's and stuff right? 🙂

Uh, this reminds me of something.

When we were younger, my brother used to tell me that they (my parents) found me in a trash can and decided to take me home because they felt sorry for me.

I'm not sure I ever believed that, but yeah, that't just siblings' charming ways of saying 'I like you'.

If I found out my bro was the key I would probably just point at him and say 'ha ha' (you know, how that one fat kid in the Simpsons always does). That's it.

Have you ever found proof for that you were not found in a trash can? I mean, where else would that green spongy thingy come from?
I have five siblings...it would depend on which one was the "key"...I'm not kidding, one is so evil that I'd be doing the world a favor to destroy her.

I'd honestly do what Buffy did, protect my sister as much as she did.
The love that shone out through Buffy's actions would surely be hard to top
But it's the love in it that counts.

BUT

I probably wouldn't kill myself, i dont know
its too spontaneous.

I would still love my sister, of course. On the other hand though I would feel kind of betrayed, not sure who by, but I would be angry about it but we'd all get over it.

Interesting, I kind of want to think about the Wes/Illyria musings in 'Origins', about how we summations of recollection. We happens to us shapes us, but does it only hold power because we know it to be true? She is Buffys sister genetically, I mean it would be no different than if a 14-year-old turned up on your doorstep with documentation proving you are blood relatives. And even if the memories of Buffy are fake, they door inform her of who Dawn is so she should love her just the same.

On the other hand though I would feel kind of betrayed, not sure who by, but I would be angry about it but we'd all get over it.

Well isn't that exactly Buffy's reaction when she first finds out the truth from the dying monk?

"My memories....my Mom's...."
"We built them"
"Then UNbuild them!"

As a gut reaction she didn't have any loyalty to Dawn, she just felt she and her Mom had been toyed with like some really complicated game of Life (Dawn as one of the tiny pink children 😀)

Well, my family isn't..close. So yeah.

Mostly, I think I'd be pissed that my brother would be able to destroy the world. Because he's an idiot, and probably would destroy the world.

Considering that my little brother is one of the most important things in my life, I think I would be pretty upset if I found out that all my memories were fake.

I would still love him and protect him with everything I had. Just because the memories weren't real, they would have felt real, and I wouldn't suddenly stop loving and protecting him.

So yeah, I probably would have been a bit wierded out at first because of the whole 'your memories aren't real' thing, but I wouldn't change anything.
