How would you recast BTVS?

It's almost impossible to imagine, but suppose none of the actors playing the Characters in BTVS existed. How would you recast them?

I'll make a sloppy attempt at it, just to show you what I mean:

Buffy - Jennifer Love Hewit

Giles - Michael Caine

Willow - Gwyneth Paltrow

Dawn - (What's her name?) that girl who plays Rory on Gilmore Girls.

Xander - Mathew Perry

Angel - (What's his name?) The guy who plays Arragon in Lord of the Rings.

Spike - Johnny Depp

Faith - Jessica Alba

Cordelia - Janet Jackson

Anya - I can't do it.

Giles - Conan O'Brien with a British accent (not really great acting skills probably, but that'd be hilarious to see)

Angel - Ben Browder (from Farscape)
Faith - a younger Angelina Jolie (or also Jessica Alba)
Anya - Megan Mullally (she's a bit older, but I think she'd work)

I left half of them blank because I've been sitting here for the past fifteen minutes realizing this is very hard to do.
 
Maybe a better way to do it would be, can you think of one casting choice, that feels inspired?

I think I like my choices for Angel and Xander the best of my picks. I don't like my Willow pick at all, but really, she's harder to recast than even Buffy, I think.

Hey, now that you mention Ben Browder. I'm going to choose him for Riley.

Angel - Anyone other than Freddie Prinze Jr., although I still like Viggo Mortensen the guy who played Aragorn in LOTR.

Hey, I just had a thought-thing bounce into my head. What if they decide to recast the movie when they make one? They'll make one. It's inevitable.

Janet Jackson as Cordelia? Let me try to talk you into it. First of all Cordelia dresses slutty, and I like to look at Janet Jackson. The 2 things mesh. Janet Jackson was a sitcom actress before she was a singer. Also... I think adding some colour to the Scooby core would be interesting.

But hey. I just read Rayne's picks and ooh, ooh, I want to change some of mine.

Christina applegate as Anya (absolutely. Why didn't I think of that).

Colin Farrell as spike (perfect).

Jude Law as Wesley (Of course.)

Still like JLH as Buffy.

Still like Angelina Jolie as Faith

Still like Alexis Bledell as Dawn. I could think of better things to do with the Olsen twins. Before you click your dirty minds into gear, I'm thinking like the next Mars space flight, and steal the return button.

Still like Matthew Perry as Xander, but Jason Biggs, yeah maybe. Hard to Pick. How bout Jason Biggs as Andrew?

Still like Anthony Hopkins as Giles.

Sean Connery as Ethan Rayne

Willow still stumps me. Never seen Clair Danes in anything.

Megan Mullally plays Karen on 'Will and Grace'.

Claire Danes as Willow? That's a weird pick - if anything I'd put her as Tara. I think Selma Blair would work best as Willow, but so far Willow's been the hardest to think of. She's giddy, yet quiet. Geeky, yet sexy.

I like your Buffy picks, but I'd rather go with JLH like nerd4hire. I was thinking the same thing with Angelina Jolie - 'Foxfire' or maybe even 'Hackers'.

Me neither, but I can remember, back when I did think I knew, I thought it was pretty brilliant.

I think I meant, if a whole cast list didn't jump into your brain, but you had one casting choice for a Buffy cast member that felt inspired, that would be cool too.
 
I think that Alicia Silverstone would make a great Buffy, back when she did Excess Bagage???

Here's my two cents:

  • Buffy: Scarlett Johansson
  • Giles: Ian McKellan
  • Willow: Amy Acker (is that cheating?)
 
Amy Acker as Willow: Good pick, but yeah, I think that's cheating, because Fred would be one of the characters you could recast, I think, being related to the Buffyverse.

Also I finally picked my Willow, and now I come here to post it, and I like yours better, and I don't want to change my pick...sour grapes, right? LOL .😛

Anyway my personal final choice for Willow is Alison Lohman from Matchstick Men, and White Oleander.

Actually, I'm down with Alison Lohman as Willow. Good choice. Also nicely keeps the theme of "Allisons who can't spell their name."
