How you met your girlfriend or boyfriend.

hmm while i think most people on here know how me and my fiancee got together I'll tell it again anyways what the heck right?

First off at the time I hadn't been looking for anyone or anything serious really because two years prior I had my heart ripped out, stomped on and put into a paper shreader and the worst part was I didn't even get the pieces back. Tommy ( the heart shreader ex) pretty much strung me along the last 6 months of our relationship. I would barely eat, I couldn't sleep well cause I was always dreaming about him or I'd be sitting by the phone incase he called. I lived in Pensacola and he lived in Foley alabama which is about 30 minutes away and he worked alot or so thats the excuse anyways I didn't date much or anything for two years I did however in that time become addicted to sex and didn't care who it was with really I just didn't want to feel nothing at all I was really young and stupid, stupid being the key word..

Anyways I decided to visit my mom who lived here in Delaware for a week, and one night while up here in Delaware I went into a yahoo delaware chat room to talk to some of the local people because i was really bored. Well this guy started to talk to me in the room, and a few minutes later I got an IM from my current Fiancee warning me that the guy talking to me in the room was a pedophile ( I at the time was just turning 17) sooo Anyways I thanked the guy who warned me of the pedophile and went back to talking in the chat, but Jon (My fiancee) kept talking to me, just normal talking nothing creepy. He said I was pretty and that I didn't look my age and he asked what I liked to do and things like that, I answered a few questions but pretty much ignored him. A week later I left to go back to Alabama where I was living at the time. Every person who added me when i was in Delaware stopped talking to me when they found out except for Jon. Jon kept trying to talk to me and I kept ignoring him a bit. For 4 months he kept at it and finally I started talking back.

We eventually figured out that while I was talking to him in Delaware he only lived four streets down from me, which was hilarious to think about. When I was getting closer to 18 he began to flirt a little bit with me and I flirted back because he was sweet and funny though we didn't have much in common (still don't actually) but we got along. I found out my grandma had cancer around my birthday and planned a trip to visit her in September of '06, I also moved to delaware to be with my mom so when my grandma passed I could be there. I ended up meeting Jon in person at my mom's house on September 12th 2006, we started dating on September 19th 2006 and have been together every since. Jon was there through my grandmother's death for me, I would only cry in front of him cause I didn't want to do it in front of my mom, But Jon was there and he comforted me. We ended up pregnant for the first time in May of 07, but we found out the baby had no heart beat on June 25th, I had a d&C on June 28th of 07 and Jon helped me through that too, he didn't try to let it show how much it hurt him but he held me and let me cry and cry... A few months later we found out we were pregnant again, and on June 30th of 2008 we gave birth to our Son.

Its been a heck of a ride but I love him very much and we have our ups and down's but we keep on fighting... I think too many people just give up too easily when times are rough, but sometimes its the rough times that bring you together that much stronger once they're over. *shrugs* So its not Romeo and Juliet, or Buffy and Angel but its our story and I kinda like it lol

It's a story, and it's YOUR story, and that's what makes it amazing. I'm proud of you =]
I met my now-fiance my sophomore year of college. We were both standing outside our dorm, smoking cigarettes. I was really shy at the time, and was on a mission to make myself less so, so I was trying to talk to random people when possible. He looked incredibly shy as well, so I said hello and started a conversation. We chatted for a while, and then went our separate ways (I even let him know my phone/room number, and said we should hang out sometime, because he seemed cool).

He never called me or visited, and I started dating a rugby player guy, who turned out to be his best friend! Apparently, he (now-fiance) was incredibly shy, and he thought he was totally in love with me from the first time we met, and then I show up dating his best friend. I didn't know this for a year or two, but eventually he let me know how he felt, and I had no interest in him as more than a friend.

We continued to be friends as I dated other guys, and he never stopped pursuing me. It was hard - there were a few drunken, crying nights in there. I moved after college (a few hours away), and we started talking more frequently, and started visiting one another. I finally said "Fine! We'll try it out!" He ended up moving up here and the rest is history! We've been together for three years (known each other for eight), and he just proposed in October, so we'll be getting married next year. I wish that I had realized sooner that my best friend was the one for me!

So, you never know. You could marry some random guy you chat up while smoking a cigarette or something.

That's so cute! And Congradulations!!! =]]
My wife and I met in grad school. We went on a kind of date, I kissed her, then got nervous because a) I liked her a lot and b) we were in the same department, so I was afraid if it ended...it'd end badly. Grad school departments are a small band of folks, so I was afraid how that could turn out.

Turns out my feelings for her were stronger than my fears because a few months later, after she had forgiven me and tried supressing her feelings for me I got drunk at a party and told her I liked her a lot. Apologized and kept on saying it. She wasn't drunk - and told me that if it were true to tell me the same thing in the morning. So I did. The next morning I said I liked her and asked her out, we went out to see the first Narnia movie. The next night we hung out and I blurted out that I loved her...yea, smooth Matt, real smooth. But, she didn't run away!

After Christmas break, she came back and told me that she loved me too. That June we were engaged, the following June we were married. Three and a half years later we're living in Maryland with our 19 month old son and a second child on the way.

Around now is 5 years since that trip to see Narnia and I'm still happy 😀

As I still never had a boyfriend, I sometimes think about how I will probably meet him.

I reckon it is someone of my school, probably someone I already know. It would probably be some Xanya-like encounter, you know, with Xander being not interested in Anya, then with Anya being very interested in Xander, then Xander falling madly in love with Anya.

I'd be the Xander in the situation, not specifically interested (because I've had it with first moves....Three times I made a first move, three times I failed...The first was actually gay, the second was extremely not sociable and the last was a bit of a womanizer. I am good at falling for the guys who are just not for me).

So hopefully, there will be a guy who will fall in love with me because we've talked a few times-or a lot of times and he will think "Who is that girl?" (Oz reference <3).
I would probably like him too but as I am never anything more than "the awesome girl with who you can talk about really anything and who is just a great friend but that's it", I wouldn't even consider the fact that he might like me, I've made too often the mistake to think that I was something more.
So, the poor guy will do his best to make me understand he like me. I already wish him good luck. I'm good at seeing chemistry between two people, but for me...I wouldn't see it.
And finally, he will manage to make me understand he likes me.

But then, second problem for him: I'm a frighten little kitty when it's about love. Last time I fell really madly in love, it hurt so bad to know I was just the friend that for a few month, I had lost any notion of self-esteem. Fortunately, I vented here and I got plenty stories of you guys being in the same situation than me, so I gained confiance again and was way less desperate.

But I am still not ready to give any guy the power to hurt me like that, even tough it was definitly not his intention. And I see people I care about being very unhappy at times because of their boyfriend. Like homicidal unhappy. But the thing I'm the most scared of is that I'm definitly not at my best those time, between down, very down, a bit less down. I'm somehow okay even if I'm down, but I'm afraid that if I had a boyfriend now, in that state of mind, I would be way too dependant. I would always rely on him, it would become addictive to be helped by him, you know what I mean?
So right now, love really scares the hell out of me.

Let's go back to the future boyfriend. I would tell him how I feel about love and he really will do anything he can to de-scare me. Like inviting me to the 'prom' without it has to mean anything for me, you know, just having fun together at a party.
He will be kind but will not force himself on me, he will let me the time to melt for him, and then, when I overcame my doubts, we'll have a long relationship (not forever-long, but I do believe once you catch my heart, the relationship can last easily 4 or 5 years).

So, my future boyfriend will have to be extremely patient. Poor Pumpkin.:tongue3:
And this is how I will meet my boyfriend!

I met my husband through a mutual friend. She took me to a party he was at. It wasn't love at first sight. He creeped up on me. I saw him a few more times, and we always had great conversations, and I found out he had a crush on me. I was engaged to someone else at the time. Then, one day I woke up and realized I had fallen in love with someone else. We had more common interests, like anime and such. It ended up being a really big mess. I had a horrible break up with my ex, but it was necessary because now, after 6 years and 2 years of marriage, I am still very much in love with my husband. That was the short version. And yes, he also enjoys Buffy and Angel, although not quite as much as me.

That's awesome that you got out of that first relationship before it was "too late" after a wedding and such. I'm glad you're happy! =]]
No story to share here, I'm single and always have been. And by now I kinda have lost all faith in ever getting a boyfriend, but that's okay.

Can't really share anyone else's stories either. In my family, it's usually somebody gets pregnant and the parent generation makes them marry. I fear this is the path I'll probably end up at some point as well.

Well, my story...Do I tell the first one or the second one? (about the same guy actually) Hm. I'll tell both.

In 2006, After my first husband passed away (I know, I was only 25. :/) and my twins were born, I was in a pretty rough spot, having a lot of one night stands and partying all the time and not taking care of my twins, one of my friends took me to a bar and we just had one and she asked if her brother could come have fun with us, I said sure.(he was 23, 2 years younger than I was.) He came and sit down with us and we had a good night, and then me and him had sex.

And then in the middle of 2008, I'm at a party with my little brother and his boyfriend and he introduces me to Matt. He looked familiar but I had no idea who he was. We started talking and became good friends, I hosted a party at my house and invited him and by the end of the night and when I had 9 drinks in me, I was sitting on his lap and he had his arms around me, he whispers in my ear "Nicole, will you be my girlfriend?" and I laughed at how cheesy it was, and said no.

And now we're on December 6th of 2008, he comes to my house with a bouquet of roses and asks me to be his girlfriend, and I say yes.

And then on our 2nd month anniversary, he brings me 2 bouquets. 3rd month, 3, 4th, 4. etc.

On our 6 month, he gives me a key to his house and on our 1 year he proposes to me.

We were supposed to get married in July this year, but I was pregnant so we're getting married June next year.

Now, for the funny part. When we'd been dating for 6 months, we were sitting together on his bed talking about our sexual relationships in the past, and we tell the same story!

that is awesome and pretty funny =] what a story!
met my GF through a pub that we both regularly go to for live music... we'd been talking for a few weeks before we decided to meet up for coffee at a local shopping center...

We spent the day together, talking, chatting, getting to know each other... the next day we met up again, again for coffee and chatting... half way through the day we decided to see a movie together and enjoyed it...

the next day we met up again, got a bit closer this time, at the end of the 'date' there was lots of kissing and we just kinda took it from there lol

She's as big a geek as i am, just in different areas... she's more into high fantasy stuff, lord of the rings and such, while i lean more towards sci-fi than fantasy... as such, when we're together, our conversations can be quite twisted and combined our DVD collection for TV shows alone stretches over 3000 disks lol

I met my wife when I was in library school. I was fresh out of the Army, where I learned to speak Chinese. One night I went into the University Research Library (at UCLA, that's where I went to grad school) where I happened to look into the union catalogue section. I saw a girl sitting there. I knew she was a library student (no one else ever uses the union catalogues) and I knew she was Chinese. Yes, I can tell the difference between various sorts of Asians, and I could tell by her body language that she was not born in the US. So I walked up to her and talked to her in Chinese. We were married nine months later.

And to think, it never would have happened if you didn't learn to speak chinese! that's amazing
Mine's been told before (I think) but I'll tell it again.

Both me and my (future) husband had just come out of really bad, abusive relationships. His ended after being on and off for 10 years with the same girl, two kids and a failed marriage. Mine ended with me being left a young single mom in college with basically no place to live. I had moved in with my sister, and met her friend from high school. He'd moved back to OK after living with his ex in Colorado, and was going through a really nasty divorce. Needless to say, neither one of us were looking for anything long term. The first time he came over, I thought "Hmm, he's cute" but they were busy visiting and such, and I was busy with all the kiddos. The next time he came over, we all were hanging out with my sister, her husband, me, Brad, and a few of the neighbors, and had a few too many drinks. There was some heavy flirting going on, and everyone started going to bed. Finally it was just us two, and the night ended.....well.

I thought that would be the end of it, like I said neither one of us were looking for anything serious at all. But we liked each other, so a few weeks later he asked me out, and we started dating. After about a year, we moved in with each other and after 2 we were married. We've now been together for a total of 3 1/2 years (married for a little over 1), and I can't imagine anyone being a better fit for me. We've both suffered through some pretty hard times relationship wise, and it's made us both appreciate each other more. There's only one thing wrong with him.........he doesn't like Buffy.

Other than that he's perfect. I'm working on changing that last part.

I can't believe he doesn't like buffy! But that's awesome you guys appreciate each other and that it's going well =]
We met at a football game in high school. Actually, my twin introduced us. We were friends for a long time. It just was never the right timing. When one was single, the other was not. Then, one night, something awful happened. I found my person after getting jumped. I got some medical attention (my mom's a nurse, so we went straight there.) After that, it became clear that we were never going to be just friends. There'd been feelings there for years. It just clicked. January 17th will mark three years we've been together.

you're a twin? That's so cool! (yes, I'm geeky like that and I'm sure you're tired of hearing comments like it)
Taake agrees: you're a twin? That's so cool! (yes, I'm geeky like that and I'm sure you're tired of hearing comments like it)
Thing is, I've never experienced NOT being a twin, so it's nothing out of the ordinary for me.

I absolutely hate when people ask me, "What's it like to be a twin?" Because I have NO idea how to answer that! I usually say, "What's it like NOT to be a twin?" Cause they can't describe that to me.

But I love my brother. He's my best friend. He knows me better than anyone else could even try.

Like no offense meant or anything, but is this significant other a female or male? you didn't use any pronouns in your original statement hehe
I've been single for over a year now! I do enjoy it most of the time but I still do pine for the days of being close to someone and talking about stuff.

I met my boyfriend in middle school (2003) at that time he hated me because I sat behind him in science class and poked him with my pencil. In high shool we started hanging out with the same people, and at the end of our freshman year we started "dating." I say "dating" because neither of us had cars, and we hardly saw each other at all over the summer and only heard from each other online, no phones.
We broke up a few times throughout the high school years, he dated this awful little girl who stole his virginity, then cheated on him, got married to a random guy and had a child before she was 18 (winner, right?) so he obviously left her.
At this time I was "dating," or really just occasionally seeing someone who was using me and took MY virginity, made me drive him everywhere and made me buy his food. It was really lame... then I told my current boyfriend that I still loved him yada yada, and he said "Maybe after high school we can be together again." Which I thought was a way for him to go away to college and never see me again.
So I saw another guy for a while but he was more interested in his friends than me or my friends, but I stayed with him for a month. In that month we had graduated high school (June 2007) and after we graduated, my current boyfriend met me at a park and told me that he wanted to be with me and then for the first and only time, I yelled at him, saying that he can't expect me to come back every time HE is ready, and how it's not fair and such. A week or so later I realized that the guy I was dating wasn't coming around after I talked to him about hanging out more, and I broke up with him.
On July 7th, 2007 (07/07/07), I asked my current boyfriend to go out with me. We have been dating continuously ever since and I have not been happier. We just celebrated Christmas together since he went to Washington for the holidays and he got me a beautiful red topaz ring. <3 I got him a "Serenity" lighter and the movie "Whip It" because I couldn't find "Dr. Horrible" on DVD, only BluRay in stores. But it's ordered and on it's way to us. =] I'm so In Love and I love it. =]

My story's a bit wierd, but it works for us, so here goes!

Four years ago I was 17. I was suffering badly with my bipolar (although I didn't know that's what it was at the time), self harming a lot, in and out of hospital for suicide attempts and also having a lot of flash backs and nightmares and generally feeling crap about the abuse I suffered when I was a kid. (I say a kid, it started when I was eight-ish, and finished sometime between 14 and 16, it's hard to define).

Anyway, I joined this self harm support site. And got chatting to this silly moron of a man that always cheered me up. The first time he called me on my phone I was having such a bad flashback that I could only tap the phone once for yes and twice for no, lol. After a fair time of chatting online, and on the phone, we met up as friends. The attraction was instantaneous but he was a perfect gent and we had a lovely day in Oxford.

The next time we met up we slept together. He said he wanted to show me that sex could be about good things, not just bad. That it could be enjoyable and loving and basically showed me a glimpse of what my life could be like if I could put my past behind me. That was when I first started to recover.

We started seeing each other more and more occasionally and completely fell for each other. It wasn't ideal, I was 17 and he was 35 but it was so right.

A year into our relationship he cheated on me with a mutual friend of ours. He'd gone on holiday to see her (she lived in Australia) and it happened. We broke up. Stopped seeing each other. But the friendship and trust was still there and so about 6 months later we met up for the day as friends. What followed was much grovelling on his part, and we agreed to continue to meet up as friends occasionally, but nothing more.

Over the course of the next few years we slipped back into old habits, and we've now offically been back together for a few weeks.

I don't know if it's going to last or not, there's a lot of issues surrounding him cheating that we both need to work on, but whether it works out or not he's been a massive part of my recovery and I don't think I'd be alive without his support, and regardless of what happens relationship wise he'll always have a special place in my heart and I will love him for that.

Does the age difference bother you?

I know a couple who married when she was 25 and he was 55. They lived together happily (as far as I could tell) for 30 years until he died at the age of 85. If that age difference ever bothered her, she never hinted at it to me.

He was a very rare person though. I only got to know him the last three years of his life, and I'm very sorry I wasn't able to meet him earlier.

The age difference has never bothered me when we're out together or anything like that. We both have the mental age of five year olds so it works quite well. The only thing with it is the whole settling and kids issue, but I've always wanted kids young, and if things work out well in 3-4 years time we'll have been more-or-less together for 8 years, and I'll have gone to and finished uni, so the timing would be right. There's quite a large age gap with my parents (my dad is 15 years older than my mum) so maybe that's why I don't care as much? I've seen them happy and that's what counts 🙂

I met my ex through chatting on a forum about another show. This was the first time I ever went online actually, I was new to the whole internet chatting thing. Anyway she appeared, we just seemed to click right away. Took us a long time to admit feelings or anything cause we both were going through issues and really didn't want anything. Needless to say, the truth came out after I found out she was due to have a serious operation and I revealed everything. We did the whole online dating for a year before we met, then I decided to pack up my whole life and move to her country which I did for three years. Sadly though it came to an end recently, but I have no regrets shes still like family to me and il settle for that.
