Even though Scott Allie insisted there would be no big announcements at Comic-Con, he did reveal some things. One thing is particularly of note, as it will probably change the Buffyverse more than the events of Chosen.

Buffy Season 8 will finish up a crossover with characters from Whedon's former comic series Fray, then Jeph Loeb is coming on for a single issue that will pick up on a "couple of things they weren't able to do with Buffy." After that, Jane Espenson, who was a writer for the Buffy television show, will kick off a five-issue arc featuring stories by the show's TV writers. In the story, Buffy's world goes public. "Vampires become common knowledge and it changes everything for the slayers," Allie said. Following that arc, Espenson comes back for five-issue arc featuring Oz. Then Brad Meltzer will be writing five issues before the series wraps up.

Wow, that sounds interesting. I wonder how people are going to react when they find out about vampires. Most of the time they just dismiss it.
 
I dont know how I feel about vampires becoming public knowledge to millions of people. I like them being the secret that hides in the dark. And if vampires are outed then demons must be outed aswell.

I was wondering about that. But if demons are outed, then surely magic is too. Realistically speaking such a revelation would change the entire way the world works. Since society wouldn't necessarily have to rely on technology but also magic for development. Anyway, I have a feeling Twilight might put a stop to that.
 
Well, with the whole Twilight being the Big Bad, it doesn't surprise me that vampires will become public knowledge. The whole plot of Season 8 is Buffy vs. the World. And people finding out about vampires and demons follows along that line, naturally.
 
So, they abandoned the idea of a 50ish issues-long season 8?

I don't think they are "that" big of a secret.
Government agencies, special interest sporting attractions, nightclubs.
Just the average "joe" on the street doesn't know.

I can just imagine them "coming out of the closet" on Oprah or something.
Depending on how the population takes the news that their 75 year old neighbor is really a demon who has never done a thing to anyone (but strangely the stray cat population has always been manageable in that neighborhood) is afraid of a slayer army.

Or that the last rash of murders were vampire attacks mistakenly identified by the police (because who knew vampires were real) and that they are also afraid of a slayer army.

I can imagine a huge backlash against governments for the cover-ups over the decades? Centuries?
The religious fronts will probably go bonkers.
The world will go into chaos.
 
Sounds like they're taking a note from "True Blood", which I'm anixiously awaiting, with the vamp outing idea. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.
 
This could be what Twilight wants. Everyone would want magic to end. It would put humans in a panic. It could mean no god or anything.

Read Poul Anderson's "Operation Chaos," or watch the movie "Cast A Deadly Spell" to see what our society would be like if magic were integrated into our society.
 
The whole vampires being outed sounds like Anita Blake, and I mean they always called Anita Blake a Rated R version of Buffy, so I guess that comparison is becoming more and more true. I personally don't see it as a big deal, after all government agencies, certain businesses, and many humans know about vampires, demons, slayers, so I guess it's only a matter of time before the public finds out. After all churches preach about demons all the time, so they shouldn't be shocked.
 
Wow...didn't really see that coming. I wonder how people will react? Anger, fear? and will they turn on Buffy? Also will this new found knowledge on all things otherworldly mean LA's new hellish location will finally be addressed on a larger scale, both by the Buffy comic and the rest of world in the Angel comic?
 
I don't think LA will stay in hell that long, and in any case, the rest of the world sees LA business as normal, from what I've seen in the Angel AtF.
In any case, it's a good idea, I know I'd want to know if there was any magic around me and it will be interesting to see how common people react (this being, I haven't read any of the books or comic books others've mentioned above).

Nope, those aren't spoilers... they're wallpapers based on the art work for the original non-canon comic-book series by Dark Horse.

Considering that's where I grabbed them from among all the other season 8 covers and resized them it's not a surprise to me.
 
well since the two comics are happening at two different times, I dont think it will have that much of an effect in Angel. If Angel goes on long term though then it should be brought up.
