Not my find, I saw this on gabrielleabelle's livejournal and I thought it would be interesting to post here.

Look at these two--cut--sections of the shooting script for Prophecy Girl.

Just after Joyce gives Buffy her dress:

INT. ANGEL'S APT - NIGHT.

CLOSE ON: ANGEL:

as he wakes suddenly from a nightmare, lying in his bed. He looks around, disoriented. Then he looks down.

Collin is sitting at the foot of his bed. Cross-legged, staring quietly at him.

Angel pulls himself slowly into a sitting position, never taking his eyes off the boy.

COLLIN
He said you lived like one of them.
I don't understand it.

ANGEL
Maybe when you're older.

COLLIN
People are weak. They're stupid.
Why would you want to be one?

ANGEL
Did he send you?

The boy nods.

COLLIN
He's coming. Soon. Stay out of
his way.

ANGEL
Why should I?

COLLIN
Because he doesn't like you
anymore.

The boy slides off the bed, starts to leave. Turns back to Angel.

COLLIN
You know what he could do to
you...

ANGEL
(a trace of fear)
Yes...

COLLIN
No you don't.

He leaves. Angel doesn't move.

And then, at the end, the final scene:

INT. LIBRARY - A COUPLE OF MINUTES LATER

Buffy enters slowly, Xander and a now-human Angel following. Everyone gathers in the middle of the room, a bit dazed.

A now-human Angel? Anyone seen this before, or have any info from Joss about this?

Where could this have gone, if it had been kept in?

Imagine how different the show would have been from that point on if this had happened!
 
I've never heard about that. I only know that they didn't see Angel as a vampire from the start. Or more correctly that's what I've heard. Don't have any proof. What could have happened if this is what happened? Bangel forever in happiness. 😉

They wouldn't have needed to have 'now-human' thrown in there.

I very much doubt it, knowing what Joss likes to do. 😛

On the discussion post I saw this, there were ideas that it might have come from an old vampire lore that if the head of the line is killed, all the vamps in his line turn human. Apparently it was in The Lost Boys?

Well, considering the exchange between Collin and Angel that was also cut, I'd doubt that's the case...

Collin seemed to be warning Angel that he'd become human if the Master was killed.

No, sorry. Its just a screen-direction.

Its a script. Scripts don't evaluate on plots, they simply discribe what is supposed to happen on screen.

In this case, it's to let the prodution know that Angel will appear as human in this scene, where in the previous scene he most likely had his vamp face on.

Thats all.

I've read the shooting scripts for BtVS/AtS before and they usually don't word it that way.
That's worse wording than I'd expect, then.

Also, do they usually use that phrase in the shooting scripts when a vamp changes back and forth?

Depends on who is writing it.
 
I dunno, having scanned some of the other shooting scripts, it's always vamp-face, human-face, so in this case, I think it really might have meant a human Angel.

What you said in an earlier post makes sense. Angel's vamped in one scene, Buffy kills The Master in a following one, and Angel is 'now human' in the one after that.
 
I've had a look at the screencaps for the ep, as I've not seen it in a while, and Angel isn't in vamp face in the scenes preceding the final one in the library.
 
They shot all 12 episodes before the first one aired on TV. And, they didn't know then if Buffy would be getting a season 2 or not.

I assume they cut the Collin scene out by the time Prophecy Girl aired, and since Angel being human wasn't really talked about in the scenes, when Season 2 was green lit they decided to leave him a Vampire.

Yeah, I think that's probably the explanation.

It's just interesting to speculate where the series would have gone if they had gone with this at the end of the first season.

Maybe Angel would have been resired, therefore becoming soulless and Buffy would have had to kill him?
 
That's a possibility. Of course if that whole thing from The Lost Boys is where they were going, would that mean Spike and Drusilla turned human too?

Of course, they might not have even brought them in then.

I don't know. Taking one thing out of the show creates such a huge ripple effect 😛
 
wow...I had never seen this before...so they wanted to turn Angel human in the end of season 1? giving a happy ending because they didn't know if Buffy would get a second season? Now I am confused! That means bangel could always be happy!
 
I wouldn't be surprised if they intended for Angel to become human at the end. They definitely worked in a lot of classic Bram Stoker type vampire lore into the series early on and I could definitely see them having the death of the head vampire cause his clan to become human again. Awww, sometimes I really miss season 1; when being a witch meant cauldrons bubbling with green goo, the watchers were good guys, and Angel wasn't Mr. Mopey Mope.
