I had logged into facebook not too long ago and noticed a side ad for 'Masters of the Whedonverse,' which was a trivia contest going on in several cities across the country. I decided that my better half and I were going to go because hello, huge Whedon fans here! There was a cash prize too.
Soooo, we asked 2 other friends if they wanted to join. They both said yes but only one ended up joining us, which was perfect. We only needed a team of 3.
There were 33 teams out at the retaurant/bar and each team had around 5-6 players. Very few had 3 players. Maybe 3 teams had 3 players.
There were 8 rounds, which were all pretty difficult in their own ways. We got 100% in 2, Quotes and Demons. So after the first 4 rounds they read out who was on top. They started from 33 and worked up. At this point we were in 5th place. Our team was called "The Mutant Enemies" Heck yeah!
Then we went and did 5-7 and moved to second place. And in round 8, we didn't do as well as we hoped. We got a bunch right and we left our double points for that round, (each page had a joker head. If you circled it, that doubled your points. You could only circle the joker head once in the game. Round 2 and 8 were double points already, so if you circled the joker head on either of those, you got 4x the points) So we left it for round 8. When we were in 2nd place we had 55 points.
So after we handed in our papers and waited, I believe 4th place had around 55 points, so we knew by then (after waiting to go through 33 and up) that we had placed. We were so excited. First place was a good chunk of money, second a 25$ gc and 3rd was a 15$ gc. Soooo, they said they had a tie for 2nd and they would have to have a dance off. One member from each group would have to come up and dance and the audience would decide the winners.
They named the first 2nd place winners 'team Band Candy,' it wasn't us, so we KNEW we were the other second place team because Team 'Joan' had been in first the whole time, and we didn't do as good as we wanted to in round 8.
*side note, just after we handed in our papers, we bowed our heads and prayed to God, told Him we enjoyed ourselves very much, thanked Him for the chance to play, and prayed we'd win*
So they then announced the other second place winner. TEAM JOAN! We gasped, looked at each other in disbelief and then waiting, as patiently as we could for them to read out the number 1 team, the winners.... TEAM MUTANT ENEMIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE WON!!!!
It was so much fun, it felt great and hell yeah we jumped way out of our seats, hugged each other and squeed.
After all was said and done and they finished the quizes in all the cities they had them set for we had the most points at 75 (we were told if we had circled the joker in round 2 we would have won with 77 points). Two other teams got 72 points.
I just wanted to share my experience. I AM A MASTER OF THE WHEDONVERSE!
