Am I the only one who would like to see Dracula as a semi-regular or occurring role in the series, maybe as a sort of "visiting lecturer and/or consultant on matters involving demon matters? I know that the actor playing the role in the episode left something to be desired, but, still, the character has a certain appeal, and having his ego constantly grating on and trying to over ride Buffy's authority has all kinds of potential.
 
I want Dracula to stay forever. He's seriously my favorite character in the comics. I'm almost tempted to write him in the favorite character box next to Spordelia under my avi. But I need to make sure he makes the cut and they don't make him unlikeable. LOL
 
The clash of wills between Buffy and Dracula has the potential if developed properly by the writers of being the same as the Angel/Spike clashes of wills in Angel Season 5, though I doubt that they would get into the "astronaut vs cave men" argument. (Maybe "cannibals vs missionaries")
 
^ Yes, yes, yes! I totally agree. I love the Angel/Spike dynamic. I would love to see another love/hate, grudging respect sort of relationship develop within the Buffyverse (although, as Buffy said once, she does have Faith to give her the mixed signals and stuff).
 
I don't mind Dracula and I love all of the jokes, but they made him so pathetic in some ways. With the right writing though, I wouldn't mind if he stayed.
 
I think it would be quite funny to see the dark lord working with his enemy.
Plus the xander and drac friendship is too side busterly funny xxxx
 
I seem to be in the minority here - I don't want Drac to become a regular. He's alright but I don't love him.
 
Nah, I don't think so. If he was the whole "Wolves at the Gate" story arc wouldn't be as cool as it would be without Drac being a regular. Everyone would go back and say "What was so great about WatG?" But if he wasn't a regular everyone will remember WatG not just for the whole ubervamp nonsense but also Dracula's hilariousness.
 
^ I, for one, will remember it for the uber-vamp's awesome scythe stealing abilities. I will be forever impressed. Hehe. Haha. Hehe. I will remember it as one of the few times in which my Buffyverse loyalties were with the villains.

Well, if Drac isn't going to be a regular resident at Castle Slayer, I would love to see him come by occasionally so that he and Xander can go moonlight dirt biking across the Scottish highlands together.
 
Why is the Dracula in Buffy versus Dracula so irritating, yet this one's so much fun, I wonder.

Is it the medium, the writer, did it take a couple cracks do get us used to him? Is it a combination of the three?
 
Drac's finally morphed into a true Buffyverse individual with a background and internal life and motivations.

On the show he was a stiff, just a collection of all the Dracula cliches. He was the straight man on the show for Buffy to mock and destroy. In the comics...he gets more of the good lines. He's still pompous and slightly pathetic...a man out of time. It's like a more sophisticated parody of that character in a way.
 
He feels a wee bit shoe-horned in for the comedic value (not to say he isn't funny, cos he really is). I think it seems a bit out of character, from the Dracula we knew on the show, to be so tight with Xander.

But that is a minor complaint cos I do admit the new Dracula is very funny.

I know I'm a bit schizo with my opinons!

Haven't read the finale yet, right? Drac turns out to be more than just comedy relief. Trust me. You'll see.
i agree with the out of character thing. it just doesn't seem right, especially when you think of the Buffy vs Dracula, Dracula. he doesn't seem like the type to make friends with Xander and all of that. he is so stilted and arrogant. i don't think it totally seems right for Drac in general though, not just the Buffy one. he just seems kind of pathetic for the prince of darkness.

In "Antique," when Dracula is saying goodbye to Xander, I got the distinct feeling that Dracula felt genuine loss at his leaving, possibly not just because they had obviously become friends during their time together, but because Xander just might have been either the first real friend Dracula had ever had, or at least the first one in a long, long time. He is not "stilted and arrogant" when he and Xander are alone together, only when in the company of Buffy and the other Slayers, when his ego probably demanded it. We're talking about the Prince of Darkness here, not just some run of the mill vampire. This is the guy who has to have his coffin lined with the soil of his native land, who speaks of himself in the third person, who has had novels and movies made about his exploits. He's got a public image to preserve.
 
I'd be interested in knowing who Dracula's sire was.

I think he comes off as pathetic because he is stuck in his own legend and is disgusted by the pop culture that Dracula represents. He's been around apparently for a long, long time, and it must be extremely lonely knowing that deep down being evil and having that urge to kill stops him from really having a friendship. Time is getting to him, and he can't move on.

^ Yeah... but how old is he (Buffyverse Dracula, not Bram Stoker's Dracula)? I mean, if he were really old wouldn't the essence of the demon start to deform him, as it did to the Master and Kakistos?

As far as I can remember, The Master and Kokistos were the only vampires to have such inhuman features, so maybe it isn't a common occurrence, or maybe they are really, REALLY old.

Well, the comics (Wolves at the Gate IV, in which Dracula reminds a vamp that even pre-powers, he was a pretty scary, blood-thirsty guy), pretty much confirmed that our Buffyverse Dracula follows the main Dracula origin at least to the extent that in mortal life, Dracula was none other than Vlad the Impaler. That gives us an age range, at least, with Vlad having been born in 1431 and died (under questionable -- yet bloody -- circumstances) in 1476. That makes him roughly 530 years old or so.

So if Drac is Vlad, then we at least know how old he is.
