"I brought marshmallows"

Okay, I'm watching The Zeppo right now and I was wondering in the scene at the beginning when they say:

Buffy: "Should I burn them?"
Willow: "I brought marshmallows. ... Occasionally, I'm callous and strange."

who thinks Willow's actually serious or is she just being sarcastic? I'm not sure... lol

To be honest, I think she was being completely serious about having marshmallows.

I'm not sure if she actually brought them with her in the hopes that they'll have to burn the bodies and they could make S'mores or something, but I think it's a very Willow think to have marshmallows on her at any given time. Or at least that Willow.

Or maybe there was another time, when they had to go kill demons and they had to burn the bodies and she was like 'Damn, I wish we had marshmallows' so from then on, she took marshmallows with her whenever they had to go kill some demons, just on the off chance the bodies might have to be burned.

Yeah, I've thought about this WAY too much.

I always assumed she was being sarcastic. Everyone's stunned reaction is due to the fact that they've never heard Willow use gallows humor before.

Gallows is that thing where you hang people. Gallows humour is an expression that I cannot explain properly on my own (but I could translate it to German, if that helps 😉), so I'll just quote from Wikipedia:

Gallows humor is a type of humor that arises from stressful, traumatic, or life-threatening situations; often in circumstances such that death is perceived as impending and unavoidable. It is similar to black comedy but differs in that it is made by the person affected.

I really wanted to throw in my two cents, but after Lyri's explanation, I simply forgot anything I had to say. Because that is just too adorable to not be right.

hahahahaha wow. I swear I didn't do that. A mod moved it here. I had it in "Inside Out" Didn't know where else to put it... but I'm guessing it was a better place than here! LOL
