I'm so Anti-Briley it's not even funny. He was sweet sometimes in season 4, but over all, I never really liked the guy. I never felt like he accepted Buffy's independence and ability to take care of herself, and constantly kept trying to be "the man" and protect her or take the lead on dangerous situations. In season 5 he treated her HORRIDLY and didn't take into account what was going on in her life. He only seemed worried about himself and that she didn't pay attention to him.

I loved Bangel for a long time, though I ship Spuffy more. I really believe that Spike, out of all three of them was more Buffy's equal (and Joss has said the same thing on occasion), respected, acknowledged, and reinforced Buffy's own power and strengths, and always gave as good as he got with her. Now, in season 6, there was a lot of negativity between them (and that's putting things mildly), because he took the darker route in trying to keep her with him. He put her down and tried to make her believe she was just as cold and dark as he was and that was why she belonged with him. It was the wrong way to go about the situation, and I know that Spike understands that by season 7, but I think he also understood Buffy's depression during season 6 better than anyone.

Briley bores me to tears, so no way would I prefer it over Spuffy. (It's still better than Buffy/the bad hair dude... but so are syphilis, Hurricane Katrina, and the George W. Bush presidency.)

I don't exactly hate Briley. I have mixed feelings. I think for the most part it was a good relationship. Riley was really kind to her, she seemed to really care for him, all that. They were sweet.
I didn't like how it ended though, and I didn't like how in one of the worst times of Buffy's life, Riley was pushing Buffy to open up to him. Not just opening up in general, but to him specifically. That tells me a lot about what his priorities were at that point, and while i think he had good intentions, there was a bit of selfishness in there that really manifested by the time he started hiring vampire prostitutes. Buffy shouldn't have had to deal with that. I also don't think they had great chemistry, and I don't feel like they evolved the way Spuffy (my ship) did, so. 🙂

I totally agree. Riley was SUPER selfish in season 5, caring more about what HE was getting from Buffy than for what Buffy needed from him... that whole storyline just irritated the hell out of me, but it definitely showed Riley's true colors
I voted 'I choose Bangel and/or Spuffy...' but I don't have a problem with Briley. I actually enjoyed them together, just not as much as Bangel. 🙂
 
I choose Bangel and Spuffy over Briley by far. I like Buffy with Angel and Spike, and I thought they were the only men right for her too. I hated Briley mainly because I thought Riley was very rude and selfish in the relationship, and it was pretty clear that Buffy didn't love Riley.
 
I choose Briley over Spuffy and Bangel, but I don't think that Buffy should end up with any of them. Riley and Buffy weren't perfect for each other when they were together, but now that they've both grown up I think they might fit even better.
