I didn't like Angel the show, until midseason

I am barely on season two now, and I still don't like it lol.

I like Wesley
I hated that Doyle died, he was my love
Cordelia is is still annoying, although it's getting better
Angel is bothersome lol, I only liked that one episode where he started dancing, and then the full dance was in the end credits
I'm not too sure how I feel about Kate. I don't hate her but I wouldn't be upset if she died.
And the crossovers were my favorite part so far, I miss my Btvs peeps.
I cried like a baby in "I will remember you"

So we'll revisit my feelings of Angel the series in a few weeks when I've watched some more.

My friend who got me into BtVS said "Buffy is good during Season 1, then midway through Season 2 is gets AMAZING and never strays from AMAZING"

He also said "Angel is ok, then midway through Season 2 it will hook you."

I'm trusting my friend. I'm not loving it either, and in fact watched Firefly, Dollhouse, and Dr. Horrible between the time of my first post in this thread and now.

I still have no idea how Wesley could get interesting, but lots of people love him from Season 2-3 on.

And I love the actress who play Fred, so I'm looking forward to her first appearance.

I loved Angel (the show) from the first time I started watching it. I started from the very beginning and I was hooked. I actually watch Angel before Buffy. I only decided to watch Buffy cause I wanted to see Angel and Cordy's characters on the show.

I do love Buffy but I love Angel more. Its an amazing show with a completely different aspect.
I feel the same way I think if Buffy didn't have as much Spike I would love Angel even more. Then it makes it hard because I love Willow and others as well. I like Angel the show more than Buffy I think because I watch Angel multiple times where as I seem to watch Buffy once then start Angel.

I didn't start liking Angel either until Doyle died and Wesley came in. The show got more interesting after that and season 2 & 3 are really good seasons.

I thought Angel's season 1 was ok but sometimes it was boring. I started to like Ats in Season 2 because it was started to become more interesting.

I just finished Season 1. I really like it. I couldn't understand how Wesley could be interesting, but I see him growing. The wimp act got old really quick. He's more of a man now.

BTW, the Buffy Boards are really a dangerous place for newbies. I stayed away until I finished BtVS. I didn't read any spoilers for Firefly or Dollhouse, although I thought I read that ASH was going to be on Dollhouse. I was disappointed when he didn't show up. But I've already read 3 Angel spoilers. 🙁

Yeah, you need to be careful around here.

As for Wesley's evolution, you're in for a hell of a ride. I won't tell you exactly what happened, but if you enjoyed his changes so far, just wait until you're halfway through season 3. A lot of people don't like it, but I thought it was sick.

And, Carrr4288, I think you'll find season 2 is a lot more consistently better than the first season. It doesn't have as many great eps (honestly, between I Will Remember You, Hero, Five by Five and Sanctuary, it's hard to compete), but the atmosphere is great. I think this is one of the seasons with the best mood of all of the Buffyverse. It's not about stand alone episodes; it's about the story arcs, and they are great. Also, if you like crossovers, then you will love season 2. I assume you've seen Are You Now or Have You Ever Been (episode 2), and there's much more of that coming.

So here's my update....

I'm in the middle of Season 4. They are battling the demon, and Angel just had a dream/fantasy (I don't want to post any spoilers).

WOW!! I hated Wesley, and when "old" Wesley came back for one episode in Season 4, I really, really hated him again!!! But since Season 2, I have loved the "new" Wesley.

The Fred stuff is great. The Connor stuff is great. This is really becoming a GREAT series, although it took a while to hit great. This is not BtVS, and I appreciate that. It really is a totally different show.

I'm sad that I only have about 1 1/2 seasons left. 🙁

For me the first few eps were not THAT awesome... But god, I loved the chemistry between Angel/Cordy/Doyle. It took me less than 4 episodes to love them together. 🙂 Also Cordelia is amazing in AtS!

ITA!!

Yay, I am sooo glad you like it! I love ATS!

In thinking about season 1, I have to say while it's not my favorite season, it is packed full of a lot of different things (intro of W&H, Spike & Oz apperances, IWRY with Buffy, Doyle's death in Hero, Wesley's joining the team, Faith's arc, another Buffy sighting, the Shanshu)- and that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Perhaps that's why some people aren't fond of season 1, the show is still searching for its footing. But thinking about all that makes me nostalgic for season 1: both in the forming of AI (where it's just Angel, Cordy, and Doyle/Wes) and the crossovers, because we'll be seeing so much fewer of those in subsequent seasons (as we should). Also, in season 1 it kind of feels like something is "missing" because we don't have our full AI team together yet (Gunn, Lorne, Fred). And yet, those early days where they're at that office...yeah, makes me wistful!

BTW, I spoke too soon. I really, really hate Connor. lol

But everything else about Angel is great!

Oh... my beloved Willow is so, so, so, so dumb!! She gave up an opportunity to be with wonderful Fred for Kennedy!!! Am I the only one who's heart sank when she said "I'm kinda seeing someone" to Fred. 😱

But everything else about Angel is great!

I have two eps left of Season 1 and I'm not hating it, but I'm not hooked either. I have seen other random eps from later seasons (TBS played reruns at 4 AM while I was nursing.) so I'm interested to see what comes of it. Connor looks like someone I'm going to want to punch in the face, so we'll see...

Do you mean "nursing" as in a baby, or the profession? Because if it's the former, I totally relate! I started watching Buffy reruns on FX in 2002 while doing those early morning feedings with the baby! :)

It took me until about mid-season 2 to really like it. The Season 2 arc is great, and the last 3 episodes of Season 2 are great. Stick with it. It took me 2-3 months to get through Season 1, but I'm glad I stuck with it.

I just finished season 1 and I ended up really liking it!
Angel is up and down for me the whole series. I was young when it was on. I definitely related to Buffy more as it dealt with younger people and I was watching them go from high school to college and dealing with the kinds of issues I related to. Even though when they were in college I was in 8th grade or so, I still felt like it was the type of show I preferred to watch.

Even though Cordelia was the same age as Buffy and co, once she left Sunnydale she went to a show with a totally different focus. She spent time around people who were older and she never went to college. She was tossed straight into the adult world with the rest of them, so her character was brought in a different direction. It didn't deal with life in the same way a show that was focused around a group of teenagers entering adulthood would.

I didn't get into the first half of angel the series at all, but I got into in season 2 and then got bored around seasons 3 and 4 and never saw some of the episodes. I really enjoyed season 5 though. Like I said, the show is really up and down for me. I have never again watched Angel since it aired, so I don't have the same adult perspective on it that I have on Buffy having rewatched it.

Buffy and Angel are such different shows that it doesn't surprise me that a lot of people think that one is much better than the other. It depends on personal preference.

I started watching Angel from the first ep, as it was aired alongside Buffy. I can't remember the air dates in relation to Buffy since it was on different channels here, but I remember enjoying season 1 of Angel more than Buffy at that time. Maybe it's because season 1 is my second favourite, after season 2.
