I don't get this. (Hellmouth related)

Why is the Hellmouth in seasons 1-4 different from the Hellmouth shown in "Chosen"?

Well, I assume that in season 1 & 4, we see the Heelmouth open, but in Chosen, they simply go beneath the hellmouth, but the hellmouth, which is a portal, wasn't opened. I assume the space the turok-hans are kept in existed before too, but we don't see it or the seal. The seal and the space beneath ir and the hellmouth(the portal) are probably two different things.
 
Well they never went under the school...to actually see it. We only saw things come out of it, we didn't see the actual seal until the 7th season.
