I don't like 'Once More, With Feeling'

I watched it through again a couple of days ago and decided that I think it's one of the weakest episodes of the entire series and is just a bit rubbish. Who's with me?!









Anyone?
 
I don't see how anyone could think that it's one of the weakest episodes of the entire series. Not liking it is one thing...

Plot-wise it was pretty rubbish...but then again that's sort of the calling card of a musical. The depth is within the songs. And in this case, the songs were well-written and clever, and avanced the story beautifully.

LOL Just kidding. But no, I don't agree. I think it was a welcome touch of light-heartedness in a season that was SO dark. Plotwise it was KINDA silly, but that is kind of a staple in the genre of musicals, as far as that goes. 🙂 I didn't mind the plot, though; I thought it was a cute idea. But the story is not so much in the episodes plot as the SONGS. It's the SONGS that tell the real story, and that's why I love the ep so much. 😀

Well yeah like Lindsey said. You can't really say there's a real plot or something but the glitter&glamour makes it good AND of course one of the most beautiful Spuffykisses 😀.

I don't believe you. You must've watched American Mal on accident...

Anyway, I don't understand why anyone would think this, no offense, it's probably my very favorite Musical of all time.

I don't like it. 90% of people out there consider it one of the top 5. I've watched it once and only really liked the end. As often as I have watched each season over and over and over I always skip over OMWF

I love OMWF. True, the plot isn't that great, but the over-arching story has necessary and important movement in this episode. As is traditional with musicals, this is found in the songs. The purpose for the episode, the brilliance of the episode, and the necessity of the episode occur within the lyrics of the song. This one episode captures so easily things that could otherwise take a season unto themselves to come out. Things such as Giles' decision to leave, Tara discovering Willow's spells, everyone finding out about Buffy being in heaven, and the like. These aren't things that can happen overnight under ordinary circumstances, but because of this episode, the rest of the season can get underway and get on with the main plot of things.

Not to mention the music is just catchy and the songs stick in your head easily. 😉
 
JCC is entitled to his opinion. I mean, I understand. Some people just aren't fond of musicals. My boyfriend hates them.

Personally, I think it's hilarious 😉 I love musicals. It was sopposed to be novelty and a sort of satire - so we shouldn't be taking it seriously, anyway. Joss just has this...thing for musicals.

That being said, I love it - it's certaily in my top five eps and I have all the songs on my ipod.

Agreement on both opinions! The CD is constantly running in my car...
this is one of the strongest episodes of the season. if you look at everything pre omwf and post tabula rasa it is not so good. once more with feeling put all of the charecter development back on track. the entire audience knew that buffy was in heaven and this ep finally let the rest of the cast know. in this episode we find out that buffy doesn't really want to be back because of the going through the motions song. we find out that tara knows about the spell in "under your spell". we find out that Giles is going to leave again in "standing in your way" Suite, not a good charecter, but what happens with the scoobies is by far the most development out of the entire season.

I don't get the "No Plot" concept. OMWF has some of the most crucial twists of the season. There is a lot going on there.

The scooby gang discovers that they really brought Buffy back from Heaven.

Tara discovers Willow's magical manipulation.

Buffy and Spike kiss for the first time.

Future Xander / Anya conflict is hinted at.

Aside from these important plot points, can you imagine the work that went into this episode? From my understanding, while the casts from every other major network television show were sipping margaritas in Cabo on their summer break the cast of Buffy were writing, rehearsing and recording their songs and preparing just for this ep. KUDOS. And how many other shows have done a similiar musical episode since then. GROUNDBREAKING. Not to mention that they did all this while still planning the entire season.

I love it. One of the best hours of television I have ever seen, bar none.

well as far as furthering the arch, yes, there is something there. but as far as the plot as to why they are all suddenly breaking out into song? kind of lame. and also lame how Sweet just...gets defeated...somehow. because he doesn't want to take Xander? is that it? I dunno.

But, all that aside, in my top 5. on my ipod. i watch it constantly and listen to the soundtrack constantly.
