I don't like 'Once More, With Feeling'

How can you say there WAS NOT A PLOT! That show was pivotal- it closed so many plot points and opened up tons more. Dont lose yourself in the singing and dancing and watch the damn story. It is the perhaps the most important episode and has so many things happening. You are all bonkers to say there is no plot. I hear everyone speak of foreshadowing this and that, THAT friggin episode was one of you little foreshadowers wet dream.

I still dont agree; well, maybe the pointless part, other than the fact it shows Xander is still a dorkus. The plot of the episode is Xander summoned a demon.. its no more or less pointless than Xander could turn into a fish along with the swimteam or Willow has a hot demon cybersex buddy. There were plenty of pointless plotlines throughout the series, downgrading it for that alone seems unfair.

Of course the previous 5 seasons had all been REALISTIC VAMPIRE STORIES!!!
I always thought Xander told the truth, that it was he who summoned the demon.
Don't see why he would cover for Dawn this time.

Love that twist, and how the queen thing all of a sudden wasn't that important. It makes me laugh.

Sure it is a simple plot within the episode. But not much simpler than any other episode so I'm not bothered by that at all.
Instead I'm amazed how they managed to move the arc forward in so many ways in what I thought would be some random musical episode. I did not expect that.

The problem is that everyone else is forced to tell the truth when they sing - Xander blatantly lies in "I've got a theory". It's probably just an issue that became apparent when they had to cut things for time, but it makes no sense.

Again though, it doesn't really matter. It's a fantastic episode despite this.

No he doesnt; He didnt know that would happen as it wasnt the wedding. He said he just wanted singing and dancing for the wedding. I never saw it as him covering for Dawn or lying about wondering what the cause was.. he is a novice and did not expect it.

That's not quite what he said. He said:

He knew that the songs would reveal truths. He wanted to know if, deep down, they were both happy with what they were doing. This was a good 9 weeks before the wedding, remember.


But luvmuffin, you cant separate it, it's part of the whole. Cant say plot sucks but the rest is good.. the rest is good BECAUSE the plot "sucked"!

I can seperate it. I don't like that they seemed to mess up, I don't like that it didn't really make all much sense, and I don't like that the Xander aspect had to be cut short for time. (I'm pretty sure they mention this in the commentary).

What I do like is that it didn't matter in the slightest. The episodes plot was not well executed, and I stand by that, but the episode was still great. Plus, the queen joke was pretty much worth it on it's own!

I strongly disagree!! I think you are giving the bumbling idiot too much credit. If he knew it would reveal inner truths, etc then SURELY he would have also known that he was to be the demon's bitca. It was only after Dawn's amulet was brought up that he put the pieces together.

Well then, why would he have said that he wanted to make sure they'd work out? I can see the incantation or whatever being nonspecific enough for him to work out that there will be songs, dances, and some healthy exposition without mentioning the pesky side effects of burning, death, and marriage.

It doesn't really matter how much he knows anyway - he still lied in "I've got a Theory". It most certainly could not be witches, some evil witches. And not just because that's ridiculous, cause witches - they were persecuted, wicca good and love the earth and woman pow'r and he'll be over there.

I still dont buy it. I dont think he knew what was happening was a result of him. But we have established all this already so anything else is just masturbatory.

I know! I need to watch again, for SOME REASON, I thought it was also said 'for the wedding' I dont know why I think I heard it but, honestly, I could SWEAR I heard it. Maybe I wanted to hear it.. I dunno.. but I always thought - for the wedding.

Everything is taken so literally on this site. Man, you guys could out geek Trekkies with Klingon outfits. I see Xander sitting around the magic shop, looking through some demon research book and reading about the demon in OMWF. So stupidly he says outloud, "wouldn't it be cool if this demon came to town or...... whatever, whaterver, whatever." Then he can't bring himself to admit his mistake until the end.

Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.

I agree with Scobro. Xander wasn't the sharpest stake in the weapon chest. As for the truth theory, who apart from Buffy sang the truth? Spike saved Buffy from burning up, Sweet blamed Dawn for summoning him then Xander admitted it was his fault. When he sang "it might be witches" there is no indication that he even knew exactly what he had summoned. Remember that not all the books were 100% clear as to every detail of every demon. Remember "Aspect of fthe beast!!"

But Buffy didnt even sing the truth, her whole 'what cant we do together' line was just to sucker Giles into the sing along.. as he was walking away from everyone until she drew him back into the fold. She manipulated him thru her song, because there was no together at all.

In that song Buffy's meaning was completely different to everyone else's though. She was meaning it from a very jaded, depressed place. The others were easily sucked in by it, but it took Giles longer than the rest because he's more insightful. I mean, if you think about it, before Season 6, Buffy would never have really talked about "weather"ing something.
 
Do the OMWF haters have an aversion to musicals in general, or is it just this particular musical that isn't doing it for you?

Exactly, that is why she manipulated him, to pull on his fatherly strings so he bent his will to her own. She played him, pure and simple. But then as soon as the musical number was over he caught onto her ruse.
