Heh yeah I had to use it in my design course. Love it now, it's great for text/shapes/making logos etc. I also use it to make posters, when I'm finding In Design annoying.
 
Hmmm, this is actually a really interesting question, takes some major thinking!

Adobe Photoshop (Definitely a no-brainer, it's always the first thing that I install!)
Windows Media Player (Another essential, my life would be music and videoless without it!)
Windows Live Messenger (My lifeline, minus BB and Facebook!)
Windows Movie Maker (Just funstuff, I use it every now and again)
Microsoft Front Page/ Dreamweaver (Just starting to use DW, so I'm still not sure which I prefer. But one of the two, anyway!)
