In "Power Play" he has sex with Nina yet he doesn't turn to Angeleus. But Buffy and him have sex and he turns

wtf that's so unfair to Buffy imo

i mean, yeah, it's a sucky situation for them, but you could also look at it as...he only turns when he has sex with buffy because he loves buffy. in a way that he could never love or feel for anyone else.
although i maintain that he could only turn that one time, that only that one time could be a moment of "pure happiness"

It's a mixed blessing really. I mean Buffy gets the validation of knowing that she made Angel truly happy, but Nina has a better chance of being with him, knowing he's not perfectly happy with her...

Well that's the simple version.

Well, Buffy and Angel could have, you know, at least tried to actually find a way to remove the loophole from his curse. Or Angel could have visited that cave demon and gotten a patched version of his soul.

That would have given him less to whine about, and you know how Angel likes to whine.

They absolutely could have tried to be together. There are probably several ways to relieve Angel's curse, one of which you explained. But no matter what they do, whenever they end up together...things get ugly. As in S2 and S8.

Angel and Wesley talk about this in "Smile Time", about how it's because he will never have perfect happiness with anyone but Buffy. Yes it is unfair but it's a testament to their love and I think it's beautiful if tragic.

Well, for them as a couple, it sucks. But from a different point of view, it's kinda.. awesome.

With Nina, it was physical. He didn't feel true happiness. With Buffy, it was special. She is his one true love, and with her, he reached that moment.

Exactly, Angel needed a perfect moment of happiness and he could only get that with Buffy

He also slept with Darla, and didn't lose his soul. The curse had nothing to do with sex. Angel can and does sleep with other people. Like Wes explained, the chance of Angel letting his guard down enough again to experience perfect happiness is very slim.

Like everyone else has said, it's because he doesn't love Nina like he did Buffy. He can't be perfectly happy with her.

I honestly think that if Angel slept with Buffy again he wouldn't lose his soul. He only became Angelus because he wasn't aware of the fact that he could lose his soul. I imagine having that knowledge now would prevent him from achieving perfect happiness no matter how much he loved Buffy or how great the sex is.

Besides, after losing Doyle, Cordelia, Fred, and Wesley... I doubt Angel will ever be able to be perfectly happy ever again.

As Wesley once said, he'll just have to make do with acceptable happiness.
